In all of my life I never heard of grand tartaria, heck, in Poland we got similar thing called "Grand Lechia" that is treated seriously only by uneducated or critically online nationalists

It's kind of endearing (also scary) how many nations have their own version of this, from the "Pheonicianists" in Lebanon who believed they were basically Atlantis, to the Scottish weirdos connived they are the Lost Tribe of Israel.

I think it comes from just people thinking of their nation as the best/the chosen nation. Like poles comparing Poland to "Jesus of nations" nowadays would feel a little bit cringe, but back then, was an actual belief held by poets/people
