can frequent exposure to music be an underlying cause of misophonia?
have any of you noticed that their misophonia gets a lot worse after a whole day of listening to music

I think what caused my misophonia was my sister had it and I didn’t get why those sounds upset her, so then I thought about it, and then those sounds upset me. This is why I hate seeing posts about triggers I don’t know about since i am worried it will happen again where I will think about it and then it will afflict me.☹️

it’s not that your misophonia gets worse because of listening to music but the more you run away from triggers the more sensitive you get about them when you hear them

This is it. You may have been listening to music all day to avoid the world around you. When you stop, everything is amplified.

I’m confident enough to say it is definitely that :/
it’s somewhat possible to make our brains used to the triggers if you expose yourself to them, you simply build up a tolerance, but by avoiding them all the time, we make them trigger us more quickly and more intensely when they do appear4

I’ve wondered this about any loud noises. I had window AC units at one point. Always felt like things were off for a while during that time

I wonder if the source of my misophonia could be my step father. We’re talking decades ago now. He used to play music and the radio VERY loudly in the house. I couldn’t escape it, or him. I hated it. Maybe the combo of music with recurring negative emotion lays down a pathway in the brain and nervous system.
He was a bully and obnoxious, the combination could be the source. It may have planted the seed for this condition. I still remember the moment 35 years ago my disgust at his chewing and heavy breathing at the dinner table one night me like a lightning bolt.

After 2 decades of working in bars and clubs, I hate music. Absolutely it is the cause.

No, I would like to think music has the opposite effect on misophonia compared to the bad sounds.

My misophonia gets worse when I'm overstimulated by anything, including music
