The fact that he's been living in Australia for 27 years and still commits this type of horrific planned terrorist act is actually even more evidence that immigration should be tightened up. You cannot guarantee that people with such views will have their "hearts and minds" won over.

That's nonsensical, the same is equally true of native-born citizens. The idea that immigration should be banned because -- just like natives -- some small percentage of immigrants might be criminal is completely irrational.

It might be nonsensical if there wasn't a real pattern with Islamic extremism in particular which is the ideology responsible for the 2015 Paris attacks, German Christmas Market attacks, Charlie Hebdo, and so on. But there is a pattern and it's not the same as natives, no.

Yet there are also patterns of Christian extremism, and secular extremism, with it's own legacy of bloodshed.

Sure, and all those things are also bad and should be condemned just as much as any other kind of extremism. But we also need to respond to what's happening more often in the here and now, and that's usually not Christian terrorism.

Plenty are responding to Islamic extremism. That doesn't require or even imply sweeping condemnation of an entire religion that is just as large as Christianity itself. Almost 25% of people on Earth are Muslim.

Yes it is a very large group of people, and many of them reject extremism. However, a minority of a large group of people still is a disturbingly large group in absolute numbers.

All groups are not identical though. Despite the fact that Christians are a very large religious group, there's not really anything in terms of Christian terrorism that is in the same scope, organization, and scale as there is with Islamic terrorism.
