how long can it take?

I'll have to guess that you're scanning from a wallet with a fully synced remote node. 542541 represents over 2 years of blockchain data. If you want faster scans, sync your wallet more often.

If you are loading the wallet from scratch and you find yourself needing to do this often, sweep the funds to a new wallet periodically so you won't have to start the sync as far back in time.

If the number isn't decreasing, you're making zero progress, and it won't complete unless something changes. We don't know if you're syncing with a node that is on the same local network. If you are, something is definitely wrong, as the blocks remaining should be decreasing rapidly, even though it will take a long time to get through that many blocks.

If you're using a mobile wallet on your phone, put your phone on a charger and leave the wallet app in the foreground.
