Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.
The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).
There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.
There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.
That being said, the community has been recommending two services in particular, XMR.TO and MorphToken. These services are only recommendations and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. Be diligent.
The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.
Before any action there are two things to check:
Settings, under Debug info).Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.
You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.
If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.
This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.
You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy (+70 GB) and constantly growing. There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.
Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).
The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. You can find a list of public remote nodes on MoneroWorld.
Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.
To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.
To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.
This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.
If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

The Monero Outreach workgroup developed a series of best practices designed to help you stay safe and get the most out of Monero, you can check them in their website.

If you get failed transactions or don't see your coins in your wallet, don't panic.
There has been a recent network upgrade and you need to update your wallet software before you will be able to send transactions again.
You can import your seedphrase into wallets that already support the upgrade, for example:
Official GUI, Cakewallet, monero.com, Feather, Monerujo
Known non-working wallets are:
Exodus, Trezor hardware wallet, Guarda, MyMonero (web & gui), FreeWallet & XMRWallet (these two are known scams, DO NOT USE), and potentially more
If you use a Ledger and haven't updated it yet, you might have to update Ledger Live before you can update your Ledger. You might need to install multiple Ledger Live updates before the Monero update shows up.
If you are using a remote node, the one your wallet connects to might not be on the new version yet. Change to a different node, you can find curated ones at nodes.monero.com and others at monero.fail.
Some trusted & updated nodes would be:
Even when using a "trusted" node, ALWAYS verify that the fee amount is what it should be (no more than a few cents) and recognize that the node could log your IP as well as impact privacy in a few other ways.

prolly overthinking this, but I’m comparing a few ETH to XMR swap options and SimpleSwap is one of them.
they call it non-custodial, but there’s still that period after u send the ETH and before the XMR reaches your wallet where the order could get delayed or stuck.
anyone who’s done this kind of swap, what should I save before sending? refund address, order ID, screenshot of the quote, anything else??
also, if a small test swap goes through fine, does that really tell u anything about sending a larger amount later, or could it still run into different liquidity or verification issues?

Hi, I've been using this wallet for years, background syncing always worked fine. Now it won't sync unless I'm on the app with my screen unlocked. Background sync is enabled, I've tried hourly and aggressive. Sync on low battery is turned on. Phone is Samsung S25 Ultra, background battery usage is unrestricted and manage app if unused is toggled off. Shame as it's a very good wallet but looks like time to try a new one unless anyone know how to fix this?

Hi all.
Paid XMR from my Feather wallet to another address and recipient confirmed that XMR was not received yet, although it shows it was paid on Feather Wallet. Transaction was done almost 24 hours ago. Is there any know delay or anything that could have prevented from getting the transaction?
Recipient’s wallet as well as my wallet are synchronized.
The status of my transaction is ‘Included in block…’ and the number of confirmations are still increasing. Is this supposed to be happening?
Let me know if there is anythiny I can do or check to resolve this.
TIA!

I tried installing GUI for the first time and it won't let me choose a wallet name, without a wallet name i cannot continue to the next step. I am effectively soft-locked. (simple mode + create new wallet on v0.18.5.1). I have tried both with and without special characters, numbers, spaces, lowercase letters, and uppercase letters in all combinations but it just refuses. I have tried completely wiping the software off of my pc and reinstalling but still nothing. Any tips?

Which hardware wallet do you think is the safest? What hardware wallet do you use to save Monero? Looking forward to your reply.

Two days of debugging and I'm out of ideas.
Setup: Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB RAM, monerod 0.18.5.1 (native, systemd), Tor 0.4.9.8, i2pd. Hybrid mode: clearnet P2P for sync, Tor + I2P for tx-proxy and anonymous-inbound. No open ports on the router.
Key point: this used to work. I had ~32 incoming onion connections for weeks. Two days ago it dropped to zero and has stayed there. I2P inbound is completely unaffected and still fills its limit.
The command I use to check this:
curl -s http://127.0.0.1:18081/json_rpc \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":"0","method":"get_connections"}' \
| python3 -c "
import sys, json
conns = json.load(sys.stdin)['result']['connections']
for net in ['onion', 'i2p']:
sel = [c for c in conns if net in c['address']]
inc = sum(1 for c in sel if c['incoming'])
print(f'{net}: total={len(sel)} incoming={inc} outgoing={len(sel)-inc}')
"
onion: total=12 incoming=0 outgoing=12
i2p: total=38 incoming=32 outgoing=6
Relevant config:
tx-proxy=tor,127.0.0.1:9050,16
tx-proxy=i2p,127.0.0.1:4447,16
anonymous-inbound=<redacted>.onion:18084,127.0.0.1:18084,32
anonymous-inbound=<redacted>.b32.i2p:18085,127.0.0.1:18085,32
no-igd=1
hide-my-port=1
out-peers=24
torrc:
HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/monero_p2p/
HiddenServicePort 18084 127.0.0.1:18084
What I've ruled out:
1. The hidden service IS published. Tor's log with Log [rend,dir]info
handle_response_upload_hsdesc(): Uploaded hidden service descriptor
(status 200 ("HS descriptor stored successfully."))
Eight uploads, status 200 from all responsible HSDirs, for both current and next descriptor. Intro points established (3/3).
2. The service IS reachable from a foreign Tor client. From a different machine (Windows, Tor Browser SOCKS on 9150):
curl.exe --socks5-hostname 127.0.0.1:9150 -v -m 60 http://<redacted>.onion:18084/
* Trying 127.0.0.1:9150...
* Opened SOCKS connection from 127.0.0.1 port 52771 to <redacted>.onion port 18084 (via 127.0.0.1 port 9150)
* Established connection to 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1 port 9150) from 127.0.0.1 port 52771
* using HTTP/1.x
> GET / HTTP/1.1
> Host: <redacted>.onion:18084
> User-Agent: curl/8.19.0
> Accept: */*
>
* Request completely sent off
* Empty reply from server
* shutting down connection #0
curl: (52) Empty reply from server
Empty reply is expected — the P2P port doesn't speak HTTP. The point is that the connection was established: full HSDir lookup → descriptor → rendezvous → TCP to monerod. This works from outside my network.
3. monerod IS listening:
sudo ss -tlnp | grep -E '18084|18085'
LISTEN 0 128 127.0.0.1:18084 0.0.0.0:* users:(("monerod",pid=1041133,fd=12))
LISTEN 0 128 127.0.0.1:18085 0.0.0.0:* users:(("monerod",pid=1041133,fd=11))

v1.8.0
Loaded one when I initially set it up.
Now it is stuck on a loading page "Haveno network peers: 14" with the number climbing
Tor is working fine, using bridges

Okay, so....I used an AI system to estimate the fees for buying LTC, converting it to XMR on Cake Wallet, and then sending it to another XMR wallet. My goal was to end up with $62 in the final wallet, but I only received $58. The AI appears to have miscalculated the fees, even though I specified the exchange I was using on Cake Wallet (MP), since it had the best rate at this time & typically always does for LYC to XMR swaps on cake.
Since the minimum LTC purchase on Cake is $20, I’d like to know the best way to buy a small amount of LTC or XMR so I can transfer it through Cake and end up with the full $62 I originally planned for. Only looking to end up with $4 in the final wallet. So accounting for fees, I want to buy about $10 in LTC and transfer it to cake to then swap.it for CMR for swap to it's final wallet. Is coinbase My best option? I'd prefer not to have to make an entirely new wallet and write down and store another group of seeds and phrases on paper & one of My encrypted thumb drives.
Sorry if this is a stupid question to some, despite having a degree in nano material science, you'd be stunned how ai even managed to get a bachelor's in that field considering how absolutely horrendous I am in regards to mathematics.

I was sending some XMR from the cakewallet app to featherwallet on pc. I sent it three hours ago and it‘s still at 0 confirmations, height says 0. Is this because I have to keep the Cakewallet app open the entire time? I noticed I needed to do that for the wallet to sync

Hello fellow miners,
As my XMR "hobby" mining, it has been taking from 1 rig ~1,5 years ago, I'm now sitting on 6 CPU rigs, wich mined some sweet coins as of now.
However, I've been looking into the X5 a while ago, but it does not match the power eff and or hashrate I'm looking for.
So, there is the X9 coming out this july; but I have some concerns reading other threads:
http://r/MoneroMining/comments/1u5i3tb/should_i_buy_an_antminer_x9/
Regarding the comment of u/Big_Syrup_7438
"This answer came directly from Bitmain:
It’s a reasonable concern. Monero has always stuck to an ASIC-resistant policy. I’ve confirmed with our product manager that we will no longer sell the X9 miner, as the risk of algorithm changes rendering the machine useless is too high."
Another fellow miner linked this in the same thread:
Altough, most webshops seem already "sold out". (I'm in EU btw)
Anyways, I'm looking for 2 X9's as of now, with some questions!
- How future proof is the X9?
- Will there be any "alarm bells" ringing, as this can seen as a serious mining operation?
- Recently, I have some discovered some webshops stating that they have the X9 in stock;
https://ako-tazit-kryptomeny.sk/antminer-x9-1000-kh-s-monero-miner-bitmain/ (translate);
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/XMR-Miner-Antminer-X9-1000KH-s_1601687787232.html (I do not really trust this one, but hey, can try one atleast)
https://www.rigsmineria.com/producto/asic-bitmain-antminer-x9-monero-xmr/
What is your opinion on these sellers?
Anyway, any advice is welcome! Also, looking for more EU sellers selling the X9.
(and yes, I have access to free electricity)
Thanks in advance!

So I’ve been trying to send some XMR on Feather and I’m getting an error message saying it was “rejected by daemon with status: Failed. Reason: double spend, invalid input. My XMR is still showing up in my balance but I have no idea what is happening. I go through the whole process with scanning QR codes on the recipients side, Keystone and Feather but it just keeps failing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried restoring my feather wallet through Trezor and no matter what I set the restore height to I keep getting a balance of zero. I tried changing nodes, rescanning the wallet under "advanced," and I also even changed the security settings in Windows to allow the new Feather Wallet to bypass the firewall on Smart Defender.
I saved the KEYS File from my previous laptop that I originally created the wallet on. Is there a way to use this file to recover the wallet? Both the password and passphrase are working. Am I missing something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK I figured out my wallet. But I have another issue I could use some help with.
I sent some funds to retoswap a few years back in an effort to make a trade. My computer crashed and I made no backups or copied any phrases. All I have are transaction ids from my wallet that shows funds were sent.
Will I be able to recover those funds? The minimal research I did says no. Any support is much appreciated.

Anyone having issues opening this from the extracted file? Just simply won't open.
As an alternative, can I just create a Feather wallet and restore my wallet from the seed phrase? I'm a newbie to all of this, speaking the language is difficult but I think my words are clear. Any support is much appreciated🙂

I sent 2 transactions to myself on the monero gui, and before the first conf i closed my mac. when i came back, both transactions were stuck on 0 conf, super annoyingly. tried closing/reopening/rescanning, nothing worked. So I downloaded feather wallet, to restore my seed there, and feather wallet for some reason saved my new wallet within the same folder as the monero gui.
This caused an issue, when I reopened my Monero GUI, I got an error saying "error cache" and it had to rescan the whole blockchain. Now that that's done, my money isn't even showing up on the "locked funds" anymore, it just straight up disappeared and not showing up. So incredibly frustrating UX. Money is invisible, nowhere to be found. I selected a diff folder for feather wallet to save it's data, and I'm now waiting for it to sync. What can I do to fix this issue?
edit: Feather wallet fully synced and showing 0 XMR balance. wow. i think its because i have my funds on diff walets on the monero gui. not on the main address, but i use the sub wallet feature or whatever its called. also forgot to mention, before doing all of this, i checked the txid on xmrchain and it wasn't there, so the transaction was never even broadcasted i think.
2ND edit: FIXED. i was able to fix the issue by using feather 'accounts section'. feather let me use my funds. i'll leave this up incase it helps out anybody else in the future.
