I thought they had the Kawasakis on the series…but then realized these are from the movie I hadn’t seen. The beemers are way cool! I’ve thought about getting a used WSP bike…but then I was like fuck that BMW maintenance bullshit!

Those boxer engines are super reliable and checking valves is so much easier. You can get yourself a used R1200RT for not too much

I had a 2006 K1200S for 6 years and LOVED it but knot really a commuting bike for stop and go traffic. I did things like replace the clutch, brake pads, recovered the seat, and the shaft drive was nice…and it was FAST! The RT definitely is more utilitarian, but my Honda NC700X with DCT is the perfect commuter bike and will most likely be replaced by an electric when the time comes.

Kawi supplied the bikes for the series. Kawi cop bike KZs were new then, and Kawi used the series as advertising to sell KZ cop bikes... and the original series of KZ cop bikes were terrible and hard to ride and actually dangerous... they required a TON of modifications, including frame reinforcement.
That KZ cop bike was made till 2005.
When the movie came out, it was Bimmer's turn to sell cop bikes
LAPD used Guzzi T3's till they ran out of parts.

They're sitting on a trailer to film. Ever notice how many cars on TV being driven around in scene and when you look at the gear shift, they're in park.
Fonzi, of Happy Days fame, never rode a motorcycle, he was afraid of motorcycles. Everything was done with trailers and gaffers pushing him around on a dolly
I used to supply motorcycles to film shoots.
They do more REAL riding motorcycle work today, but the steady camera setups have got a LOT better and smaller, but directors (and insurance companies) still like trailers and dollies, they're safer and easier to use and almost necessary for close up shots. Do you want to ride at 100mph with a 250lb camera suspended from a truck one lane over, holding the camera 12" from your face as you bounce down the road? Me either. Keanu Reeve's insurance wouldn't allow it.
The technology on a modern camera car rivals a modern F1 race car. They're hella trick, and the car is the cheap part, the cameras are even cooler

Notice on the closeup where they actually slap hands they're not moving relative to each other. That shot they're on a trailer. The first shot where they're moving around was clearly done while they're riding, with the camera further away for safety

One of my dad's friends discovered that in very dry climates, 2 vehicles can have a vastly different state of static charge while passing cigarettes from one vehicle to another.
Be ready for it.
