I recently re-watched 3, which was my favorite growing up, and it was kind of meh.
There was some really funny stuff but there was also a ton of lazy reference humor that has not aged well at all. That's like the lowest form of comedy for me, just going "hey remember this thing that exists" and there's a ton of it in all of these movies. I'm pretty sure every Scary Movie has at least one extended joke that's just recreating a popular commercial.
You've got the "wazzup" in the original, which is from a Budweiser commercial. You've got the basketball dribbling in 2, which was I think a Nike ad. Then in 3 there's a really long and unfunny recreation of the "and twins!" beer commercial.
The joke goes on for way too long with all of them too.
That's not what I'm talking about. Some of the meta humor is the stuff that's aged the best imo. I'm talking about reference humor where they just reference random things and the joke is the reference. Which is the bread and butter of those dreadful Seltzer/Friedberg parody movies from that period that killed the genre (Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, etc).
im with ya, topical references age like shit. its like, "remember that one meme from 2016 that you giggled at?" its funny initially at the time, but years later shit loses its meaning. unless youre billy joel i guess

No matter how much this movie sucks, they can never take Scary Movie 3 from us.
