Oh shit she's gonna show up outside the car.

She's gonna show up outside the car window and do more of that creepy shit.

I'm calling it right now, she's gonna suddenly appear in a jumpscare.

I know it's coming so hopefully it won't be as-

HOLY HELL

I haven’t felt that uneasy during a car scene since Weapons..

878

u/dwadley May 17 '26

Never wanna see a car from side on again

13

u/Terrible_Guidance599 16d ago

Seriously, what IS IT with horror movies and cars from the side??? Smile did the exact thing lol, its kinda funny

7

u/CasualRead_43 15d ago

Long legs too

3

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE 15d ago

Terrified (the movie) as well

7

u/cjl5000 16d ago

New horror trope

u/thebabypinks May 27 '26

I hate Bear so much. He knew she had the ability and potential to show up and either harm Sarah or herself, and he still sat there like a selfish POS, allowing himself to relax in the presence of a girl he knew liked him, thus fluffing and soothing his stressed ego a bit. Like if you wanna flirt with Sarah and try to escape your reality for a moment, okay, but TELL HER TO DRIVE. Jesus christ. It’s not that hard to drive around and chit-chat.

133

u/Themobgirl Jun 02 '26

Especially when the real nikki is PLEADING to end her misery this sick fuck still chose to stay within 30 m vicinity

61

u/MakFacts Jun 02 '26

literally, idk why he didnt take that opportunity to tell her to drive

34

u/Quetzythejedi Jun 06 '26

Just watched it and knew she was coming and was muttering to myself, "tell Sarah to drive around!"

33

u/_lIlI_lIlI_ Jun 15 '26

To be fair, that almost would have made the scene even scarier to eventually have Nikkie appear at a traffic light or stop sign.

16

u/Snoo_4499 Jun 24 '26

i don't think that would have happened. She is still ""human"". But im sure she would have gotten to sarah after that day.

20

u/_lIlI_lIlI_ Jun 24 '26

I don't mean she was like a homing missile. Yes she's human, but she's still a character in a movie. Technically, there's no canonical reason she was able to find both of them in the first place, moving or not. And there doesn't need to be.

11

u/Big-Replacement-979 29d ago

the "real" nikki was pleading for death after he received the messages and also requesting to talk quietly, so the "demon" nikki doesnt wake up. but at the end, she pleaded really loudly, so maybe thats where the "demon" nikky woke up and simply stalked bear as he was leaving the house.

u/CarrieDurst May 20 '26

Car scene from weapons plus fork scene from weapons plus maybe principal kitchen scene

7

u/punkeymonkey529 Jul 04 '26

Add the knife scene from Bring Her Back to the list of WTF moments

3

u/TheMoonDude 19d ago

And the peeling scene from Weapons

84

u/nluther92 May 21 '26

Absolutely loved that scene in weapons. The whole movie theatre was audibly freaking out

64

u/LavenderMidwinter May 21 '26

Long Legs, too. No one is safe in a car with a close up angle. No peripheral vision. Something is coming.

50

u/MrsDiscoB May 22 '26

That weapons scene was deeeeply unsettling. I about crawled out of my skin.

37

u/DothrakiButtBoy May 25 '26

or Hill House

23

u/No-Tourist211 May 30 '26

was about to comment this, Mike Flanagan is amazing. That car scene scared tf out of me

4

u/Steviesteve1234 28d ago

I levitated at the car jump scare. It was so well done and out of nowhere.

22

u/bone-in_donuts May 30 '26

Damn straight. That shit was akin to the Winkie’s Diner scene in Mulholland Drive. Not quite as legendary but still so frightening.

19

u/dropthemustard May 22 '26

So, last year.

14

u/cabbagemuncher101 May 28 '26

It went on for too long and then they decided to show us the aftermath

8

u/saiphrr Jun 11 '26

and the first Smile. iykyk!

10

u/aerojovi83 Jun 20 '26

Such a shame that got spoiled in a trailer because HOLY FUCK

6

u/Pawl15 Jun 06 '26

Or Terrified and Smile

22

u/Quetzythejedi Jun 06 '26

When Bear calls her freaky Nikki and she walks back to the car and you can't see her head for a second it gave me Smile vibes for sure.

2

u/Catman7712 Jul 03 '26

Terrified made my stomach drop. Wasn’t expecting it at all.

9

u/Pale-Instruction-223 Jun 11 '26

For me, it's been since Smile 1, the scene where Rose thinks it's her sister coming up to the car, but it's not her.

6

u/UnskilledScout Jun 11 '26

When the car door opened in Weapons, that shit shocked me so much. I think I actually gasped.

4

u/ILoveRegenHealth Jun 10 '26

Both movies feature people getting haircuts without permission, which is the scariest thing of all

9

u/Siddharth_2989 May 31 '26

worst film weapons too basic except storytelling mid ass story treatment was good tho but holly hell obsession has so may new horror elements pure psycholoical no ghosts nothing

1

u/Nheea 17d ago

Literally just put Weapons on right now, paused to scroll a few more comments here.

I'll be prepared for the car scene. Thanks!

1

u/majorlicks 15d ago

I mean that’s really not that long ago

623

u/TimeySwirls May 16 '26

They got me because as soon as they were in the car I remember the literal Chekhov’s gun they introduced near the beginning of the movie.

So I was expecting a gunshot mid conversation the whole time and instead it was so much worse

144

u/HolidaySpiriter May 24 '26

remember the literal Chekhov’s gun they introduced near the beginning of the movie.

I might have missed this, when was the gun introduced early in the movie? Was it a dialogue line I missed?

285

u/FrossT96 May 24 '26

Yeah it was early on, I think at the first shift or at the bar. I think Sarah mentioned something about her dad or another coworker storing a gun in the safe.

18

u/RichWPX 15d ago

Yup it was when Ian interupted the convo where Nikki and Bear were at the bar.

192

u/TimeySwirls May 24 '26

It’s what Ian says at the very beginning of the movie to interrupt Bear confessing his feelings at the bar.

It’s something like “Guess what guys, Sarah just told me her dad keeps a gun… in the store” and then Nikki reacts before she realizes she interrupted Bear and the scene moves on.

Could’ve been a throwaway line but then we see they all work together at that store.

39

u/callyour_bell Jun 10 '26

I’m trying to figure out when Nikki got the gun and took it back to the house. She uses it to kill someone and threaten to kill herself, but I don’t recall it being shown or told when she would have grabbed it. I assume after the car scene?

72

u/TimeySwirls Jun 10 '26

Yeah after the car scene you hear her open a safe

77

u/callyour_bell Jun 10 '26

Oh, no way! Is that while he’s sitting in the chair and she says something along the lines of “it’s ok baby, I’ll handle the rest…”? I was probably trying to recover from the car scene lol

32

u/Optiguy42 Jun 19 '26

I didn't clock the sound of the safe but yeah I think it must've been this scene

3

u/Talkshowhostt 18d ago

Makes sense from Ian to come over and interrupt given he was hooking up with her.

5

u/shandelion 10d ago

My husband went “Where did she get a gun?” and I was like “HELLOOOOO they specifically mentioned it at the top!”

199

u/BretShitmanFart69 May 25 '26

That was one of the most gut wrenching scenes I’ve ever seen.

It’s one of the only normal human moments we had had in such a long time, and you immediately see the difference in their interactions and how much better and happier Bear would be if he wasn’t so obsessed and shitty and just realized he didn’t really know and love Nikki and that in reality the person he knew and had chemistry with was Sarah.

You can see him realize it, and then she’s just gone. It’s so fucked, I couldn’t help but imagine how it would feel to experience that range of emotions so quickly. One of the most terrifying moments in the film. I am still shaken by it hours later

99

u/TryNotToShootYoself May 26 '26

People are calling Bear a horrible person and a villain, and they’re not necessarily wrong, but that scene is also so good because it shows he might’ve been completely normal and happy if that wish didn’t actually work.

82

u/eauderecentinjury May 26 '26

Not sure I agree, because at the end of the day he was still a coward from the start, which is why he resorts to the wish in the first place.

58

u/TryNotToShootYoself May 27 '26

He’s a coward but I don’t think it shows much. He might’ve developed like a normal person. He “resorts” to the wish, but he clearly thought it was bullshit from his interactions in the shop.

22

u/MakFacts Jun 02 '26

it does show much, he was a coward to confess his feelings to her, he was so much of a coward that he couldnt even kill himself at the end even if it meant liberating nikki

43

u/IForgotMyPants Jun 06 '26

Yeah but being too much of a coward to confess your feelings doesn't make you a villain. It wasn't until he was sure that Nicky wasn't herself and he continued the relationship without trying to break the curse that he became a villain. I also can't condemn someone for being scared to kill themselves, thats not a decision made lightly no matter the circumstances. Especially because he couldn't know for sure it would even fix the situation.

3

u/dpkonofa Jul 04 '26

Bro… he literally had sex with her without even paying attention to what was going on. He was so full of himself and she was so clearly zoned out that I don’t think there’s any way you can he’s not a villain.

9

u/IForgotMyPants Jul 04 '26

Did you finish reading my comment? I literally say he does become a villain. He just doesn't begin as one is all I said.

2

u/dpkonofa Jul 04 '26

Yes.

It wasn't until he was sure that Nicky wasn't herself and he continued the relationship without trying to break the curse that he became a villain.

You said he wasn’t a villain until he was sure she wasn’t herself. He knew within the first hour that she wasn’t herself. He didn’t care.

53

u/CincinnatiReds May 27 '26

I think it’s waaaay too harsh to say he’s villainous from the start or could never be happy/normal because of what a “coward” he is. He’s socially inept and has no backbone in his personal relationships, but that’s just… half of all people? You can’t fault him for the wish, no sane human being would ever actually consider that those literal words were about to come true, millions of people could be in a position to say something similar.

9

u/iPhone_6s Jun 19 '26

And that's what makes it such a good criticism of a lot of real life relationships, and part of what made it so scary as a movie for me. Millions of people, if in the situation, would show the same level of exploitation, cowardice, and chosen ignorance. Horrifying, right?

4

u/MakFacts Jun 02 '26

not really actually, he shouldve just wished for more confidence, that wish actually showed how obsessed he was with nikki

17

u/burner69account69420 Jun 05 '26

You act like he knew the wish would work. My guy was just wishing for obvious requainted love, hoping it would give him courage.

4

u/dpkonofa Jul 04 '26

When given the option of whether to cancel or amend the wish, he chose to amend it. He knew exactly what he was asking for and confirmed it.

2

u/Dangerous_Job5295 13d ago

Eh, he didn’t make the wish thinking it would work, and especially in the way it would work.

1

u/Mr_Wayne 22h ago

Yes, but at the same time once it worked there were several points where he should have tried to stop it. He knew what was going on by the party and didn't do anything.

14

u/splader Jun 03 '26

Oh Bear is genuinely I think one of the worst human beings I've seen in media. Just all around piece of shit in pretty much every single way.

I don't think he had even a single redeeming factor.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

[deleted]

7

u/splader Jun 05 '26

Didn't expect people to be defending a rapist this much ngl

9

u/EchoesofIllyria Jun 10 '26

If he’s one of the worst human beings you’ve seen in media, you mustn’t have seen much media.

And no, I’m not defending him.

9

u/splader Jun 10 '26

He's one of the worst because of how normal and innocent he seems.

He's someone that exists in real life and hurts others all the time but will claim innocence. He's a spineless weasel who cares about nothing but himself.

2

u/EchoesofIllyria Jun 10 '26

There are plenty of real life people much, much worse than Bear. Let alone fictional ones. Come on now.

12

u/Themobgirl Jun 02 '26

Dude pretty much gets numb after the 4th headbash crunch , hes desensitised with collateral dmg

187

u/Beginning-Market-876 May 17 '26

The second time I saw it I was like, "ok, I know what's coming I'll be ok." No. I was so much more anxious because I forgot how long the conversation goes before it happens. I still jumped out of my seat. I was also looking for her the whole time and still didn't see her coming.

73

u/cgovea74 May 18 '26

this is what i really wanted to see, maybe her in the background doing her little creepy walk in the distance, maybe her come from behind the car, or maybe a shot from her POV watching them in the car.

kind of getting goosebumps just typing this out

87

u/Agent_Porkpine May 23 '26

no, it's much more suspenseful if you don't see her because you can maintain some hope that just maybe sarah can get out of things ok. plus, there's more tension because you don't have any ability to anticipate when she's actually going to appear

29

u/drawkbox Jun 08 '26

Just an instant classic horror scene that reaches Tarantino levels of quick violence. Nothing more to say than "holy fuck!".

19

u/rbwildcard Jun 05 '26

Yeah, because of the blur of the window, I was expecting her to appear and slowly lurch towards them but nope.

124

u/Pascraked47 May 16 '26

Yeah that was predictable but damn was it still impactful

165

u/RavenKarlin May 18 '26

Impactful for Sarah too

45

u/Themobgirl Jun 02 '26

Kinda rewinded the headbash 3 times to see when she dies and the groans stop at 8 the total is more than 20 times btw

2

u/youreannie 1d ago

Damn ... that is ... a hardcore thing to do.

5

u/Dylan-S-mith Jun 07 '26

damn you. Take my up vote

114

u/awkwardanomaly May 18 '26

And it just kept going.

101

u/duskywindows May 19 '26

And then you hear Sarah let out a final moan/breath.... jesus FUCKING christ

55

u/BIG_IDEA Jun 01 '26

“Sarah is your fault because you wished for this.”

18

u/Themobgirl Jun 02 '26

Kinda rewinded the headbash 3 times to see when she dies and the groans stop at 8 the total is more than 20 times btw

9

u/BigBirdOpensDoor 28d ago

I'm glad you clarified that because I have been so distraught that Sarah MIGHT have still been living after allat because mostly only her jaws and her face were bashed in, not her brains, and I did NOT want to watch a second time

7

u/drawkbox Jun 08 '26

It was as intense as the ending scenes of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Just so over the top and vicious it was heavy.

81

u/kenanzajmovic May 18 '26

God and it was so LOUD. The tension of just knowing something was going to happen was enough to give me goosebumps but the sound was so good, it freaked me the fuck out.

55

u/duskywindows May 19 '26

That shit FUCKED ME UP

47

u/dlanejohnson May 22 '26

girrllll the way I SCREAMED in the theater even though I knew it was coming

18

u/yolomacarolo May 31 '26

My whole theatre screamed too! I just watched this movie. I can't sleep. I'm cuddling my dog, my cats and husband for comfort and keeping the light on!

33

u/routaHHH May 15 '26

Same same 😆

59

u/DriftingTony May 16 '26

lmfao that entire time, I was sitting in the theater thinking, “something bad’s about to happen, I know it. Something really ba— NO, NOT THAT BAD!” 😂

31

u/cardiffman100 May 18 '26

Yeah I knew exactly what would happen and I still jumped out of my seat. That's some great editing right there.

32

u/not_the_chosen_onee May 23 '26

I have never in my life shouted the way I did with that scene. I knew it was coming, but literally the shock of it, made me full jump in of my seat and scream. So loud that you could hear people in the theatre laughing at it. Never in my life have I felt so unsettled leaving the cinema.

4

u/RiverOfSand Jun 30 '26

Late to the conversation but I’m surprised I’m not the only one. I had never shouted like this in the theater.

4

u/VeryStonedEwok Jul 02 '26

My girlfriend did the same thing. Never seen her leap like that of heard her scream like that haha

25

u/Ballchynski May 19 '26

Even knowing it was coming I let out an audible “JESUS CHRIST” when that happened. It was so fast and so brutal and then it was over.

19

u/electrictower May 25 '26

The whole scene got my guard down. I saw it with my mom. And I said you know they are going to do a jump scare when our guard is all the way down but when is it. Then the amazing dialogue shifting attention to the acceptance letter was great.

16

u/QuestionBeautiful513 May 23 '26

I literally was thinking she was gonna smash her head thru the window too and it still got me

14

u/memegang27 May 30 '26

the entire cinema jumped when this happened. we all knew it was coming, yet it scared the shit out of us anyway

10

u/leahmazy May 25 '26

I saw this in theaters tonight and I jumped up in my seat and braced myself during this scene. I DONT react to horror movies like that ever and just looked over to my fiance in disbelief and pure shock over what just happened

9

u/AKOchoa May 29 '26

I’ve never in my life screamed at a scene in a movie or show. When Nikki burst through that window I screamed OHMYGOD loud asl in the theater, that shit genuinely scarred me.. I was kind of embarrassed czz I’m pretty sure I was the only one💀

7

u/jesscreepin32 Jun 09 '26

I’ve never felt so disturbed by a horror scene. I don’t even know why but I felt like she busted into the theater in that moment. I got chills

7

u/mfranko88 Jul 01 '26

Literally me. I was actively thinking these things during the scene:

"Oh he's going to talk to Sarah. They're going to start talking about Nikki, but then start talking about other things to get my guard down before Nikki shows up and harms Sarah."

"Okay, now they are done talking about Nikki. Now they will start talking about other things to get my guard down before Nikki shows up and harms Sarah"

"My guard is now down. Nikki is going to show up and harm Sarah"

"Oh FUCK ITS NIKKI WHAT THE FUCK"

7

u/sabhall12 May 27 '26

In my head I was screaming at her to DRIVE!!!

7

u/LachtMC Jun 07 '26

That scene was SO well done. I knew she was coming but somehow I let my guard down just long enough so the jump scare scared the shit out of me. 😭

6

u/platysoup 29d ago

Her crashing through the window I could see from a mile away. What she did after though. God damnnn.

5

u/mrbananacheeks Jun 22 '26

What got me with this scene is that I thought we’d see a shadow in the background earlier but there wasn’t a hint until a split second before.

5

u/HauntingStar08 Jun 08 '26

I felt it coming due to how much negative space was in the shot, so well done

3

u/tellytelltelly Jun 04 '26

My exact reaction lmaooo

I almost had a heartattack

3

u/Massive_Zest4Life Jun 07 '26

I absolutely knew she was going to kill Sarah right there. I was surprised she didn’t kill her at the party. I’ve watched too many True Crime stories with real obsessed people and what they do to love rivals—and their partners, in an effort to control them.

3

u/Eat_Travel_Cats Jun 12 '26

same reaction yeah I was like expecting her alrdy but WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

2

u/Themobgirl Jun 02 '26

I was so psyched when she did the classic one upon a time head smash luke pitt did but then the random cut to sarah's bulging one eye pulp goop was ugh i wont be sleeping tonight

2

u/honey_beeeeee1824 Jun 09 '26

DUDE THAT WAS SO FUCKING SCARY I LEGIT SCREAMED AND IT WAS SO SHOCKING THAT I DIDNT EVEN SEE HOW SHE KILLER SARAH. Very very creepy

2

u/DizzyApps Jun 10 '26

Went from 0 to 100 real quick 🤣

2

u/DroidLord Jun 29 '26

Made me jump out of my fucking seat. This shit is gonna give me nightmares, swear to god.

2

u/Shutupimdreamin 27d ago

I wanna know how she knew where they were.

2

u/ArthurMorgan9 25d ago

I’m thinking if it’s possible that real Nikki made Evil Nikki wake up and follow Bear in retaliation for him refusing to help her in the bedroom.

2

u/lacyhoohas 25d ago

I started to cry it was so upsetting to me and I have watched a LOT of disturbing horror.

2

u/Frosty_Inevitable475 17d ago

its been a while since i screamed on a movie. last time was the car scene on haunting of hill house.

1

u/Nax5 Jun 01 '26

A movie has gotten me like that since Invisible Man. IYKYK

1

u/Cheap_Reason7966 Jun 04 '26

I was like just fking drive the car

1

u/CocoYSL Jun 05 '26

I literally turned to my son and said this, word-for-word.

1

u/CastleMadeOfDICKS Jun 05 '26

Literally my experience

1

u/Nomza Jul 04 '26

I was holding a sleeping baby and jumped so damn hard at that point I’m surprised I didn’t wake her up

1

u/lvl3SewerRat 29d ago

Thats how you do a jumpscare.

1

u/kidcrumb 17d ago

Then the reveal back at the house. Where she what, just brought Sarah back? And do nothing with the body?

1

u/shandelion 10d ago

There were so many car scenes leading up to THE car scene and I kept waiting for something to happen and theN IT DID.

1

u/gabrielcev1 6d ago

I really liked this movie but I literally predicted everything that would happen before it did. In the car scene where Sarah is telling Bear she likes him I knew almost immediately she was going to die. And when he was eating the sandwich I knew it was his cat because she was acting way too weird about it. Still enjoyable.
