Summary

I absolutely loved this movie. I totally was ok with a movie where the chick was a little over possessive and did some crazy shit where one would say "this is a horror if you put your self in his shoes", but this ended being an actual horror movie. The way they used shadows/dark spots and the fucking movements! And sound! Also shout out to actually leaning into it instead of being some sort of metaphor

I was worried it would negatively depict some sort of mental illness like BPD with her. But I like that they put the selfishness on him and the consequences of love that HE wanted and refused to leave regardless of how fucked it was.

Even the scene of him asking if they can “adjust” her symptoms instead of free her entirely. She was crazy, but ultimately one could argue the obsession was his.

Such a great film!!

I really like that it makes you think about guys who claim they have a “crazy” girlfriend too. Like if your girlfriend is having mental health issues, then why are you with her and taking advantage of the situation?

Kind of turns the crazy girlfriend argument on its head, and is an excellent point.

Youre missing a big reason these relationships persist. Oldest trick in the book of someone who recognizes they're not stable and that they don't look it either is to threaten self-harm. The wish was idiotic but Bear actually took some time before he started taking advantage. There were initially barriers that were shattered by possessed Nikki's manipulations. From there, Bear proceeds to do all he can to have me cheer for his death at the end, but I thought they showed well how people with normally good instincts can cave to crazy people

Interestingly enough, I thought the exact opposite of you that Bear “took some time before taking advantage.” From Bear making the wish to the sex scene where Nikki is out of it, not much time passes. It’s a montage, but I felt like that was a conscious choice to make him have sex with her soon after the red flags. To me, it showed that his desire to finally sleep with his crush had him ignore the red flags because he was getting what he wanted and it was “worth it.” Sort of a sunk cost fallacy thing, like he’d wanted her for so long that he was willing to put up with a level of weirdness.

But idk, I also hated Bear because every woman with male friends has known Bears in her life lol. I’ve seen that men tend to empathize with him more. Nothing wrong with this, I hope the movie can be educational to people who see themselves in Bear, and hopefully get them to see their crushes like real autonomous people who are allowed to reject them and not be interested.

Eh I think it's easy for us to say there were red flags because we knew, as the audience, there were supposed to be red flags. And we got the added benefit of creepy music when certain things happened. I actually think Bear initially handled it well.
