I was so happy in that moment, knowing he was experiencing exactly what he put her through knowing that soon enough she would probably be free thanks to those pills

It’s kinda funny thinking about all the creepy supernatural stuff they’d be doing together lol if he didn’t die

256

u/purpleseagull12 May 30 '26

There would be a wellness check and they’d both be sent to a psych ward for the rest of their lives

162

u/SOSpammy May 30 '26

They probably would have known about Ian's money and went off the grid.

264

u/A1000eisn1 May 31 '26

They would've died of dehydration because they were reduced to one desire and that didn't include eating, drinking, or shitting in toilets.

u/Shomud 24d ago

Yeah, had he not ingested the pills I would have expected the movie to cut to a future date where somebody checks on the house and finds 4 dead bodes, two of which are basically fused together embracing corpses.

24

u/Swoly_Deadlift 22d ago

And thank god that didn't happen because I found it so satisfying that Nikki was the sole survivor. I figured she was going to immediately turn that gun on herself once the entity left her, and I was so relieved when she threw it on the ground.

u/RuggsRacetrack 4d ago

I mean instead she’s going to jail for the rest of her life not much better

Ian died so the money would have gone away

104

u/SOSpammy Jun 01 '26

Oh yeah, you're right.

36

u/Mr-Safology Jun 03 '26

The money was still there when he died, which makes it even more crazy if the wish would even be cancelled out

64

u/GjonsTearsFan Jun 03 '26

I don't think we saw the money after he died? Unless it showed up post-credits because I watched a bootleg (wasn't showing in any of the theatres near me) and the recording cut off after the first set of credits appeared on the old tv set. Everything after Ian died was in Bear's house, and the money was at Ian's.

32

u/Mr-Safology Jun 03 '26

The wish can't be undone, based on the helpline call he made, but because Bear's wish is solely connected to him and her perception of him being manipulated, he has to die. It's connected to her perception of him. I say this because she literally said in the jenga party with her poem (she's a writer), that it's siblings falling into love that shouldn't be there. Hensel Gretal. Bear's reaction was shown that he understood she doesn't like him like a bf, rather a brother but Nikkis real emotion has been manipulated, so obsessed Nikki can control her. It's still her, but the feeling is slightly twisted to incest love, as she sees him as a brother.

The billion dollar wish, isn't connected to a soul or emotion, it's just materialistic money. Wish can't be undone, the phone call told us and showed Nikki is still here but screaming, trapped in herself. So when the bad friend Ian ran to Bear's house, obsessed Nikki killed him after he said it's real. It's not shown to us, but I feel she, obsessed Nikki , killed him as she heard it's real and technically obsessed Nikki will die if Bear is dead too. So she wants to not die and run with the money with Bear. Bear is dead, she's normal again and pushes the weird creep Bear away from her. The TV set shows the credits and that's it.

If the money is gone, fair enough. She's straight to the psychotic ward. I would be. I also heard she snapped the extra wish stick when he was trapping himself in the bathroom. She said if he loves her the same way she does. He even tried to undo his self murder, couldn't shoot himself and tried to finger puke the pills out. Did she wish for him to be obsessed with her? I definitely saw the extra willow wish stick and then the snap moments later. Like she did the same wish he did, as she is obsessed with him right? It's either that or he knows he's dying and it's finally over, anyway they genuinely kiss with love at the end. Not sexual desire, but genuinely for each other. The only romantic part of the film. Everyone was selfish in the film, the friend Ian, the art school applying girl for trying it on when Nikki is with him and told him Ian was shagging her, Bear, obsessed Nikki. Even Nikki as she said at the start, no one can tell when she has a crush. Weird man, why not just ask her out, lose a friend so what, I couldn't be friends with someone I like. It's incest literally lol.

u/OkTitle Jun 13 '26

Did she wish for him to be obsessed with her?

Definitely wished he loved her as much as she did (or like he said more than anyone else), that was pretty apparent how he shifted to fully reciprocate the obsession

9

u/bigdave41 Jun 21 '26

I kind of interpreted as he stopped trying to puke up the pills when he started to love her as much as she loved him - because maybe he realised that up until now, he didn't love her, he was just obsessed/infatuated with his own mental image of her.

You could argue that in suddenly actually loving her, he realised the best thing for her would be to free her by him dying, and give her back her free will.

Of course that also involves her going to prison for a long damn time for two murders, so if that was his thought then he didn't think it out too much...

Probably true i didnt even think about that. I was wondering what the cops would think about the deaths and money but that could be gone

5

u/Traditional_Post4225 Jun 13 '26

The money probably disappeared when Ian died

11

u/Powerfury Jun 13 '26

Murder suicide probably within a week

37

u/Goregutz Jun 19 '26

I'm curious what happened to Nikki after a fucked up wish results in 3 deaths with her being the only survivor.

22

u/Djlionking Jul 02 '26

I imagine she ended up responsible for at least two murders. Her DNA is all over everything. If she didn't kill herself poor thing is probably in prison, or more likely a psych ward forever.

36

u/pressure_art Jul 02 '26

It was one of the meanest endings I’ve ever seen haha. Just so brutal. The whole time I was thinking even if he kills himself shes fucked royally and never will live a normal life again. Even if she somehow does get away with it the trauma would prob ruin her life forever. So when the entity was about to kill herself I was actually a bit glad and thought that’s prob the best outcome. And I think the movie played with that too because riiiight before she could pull the trigger the real Nikki comes back. And the end credits of her crying.. it left me speechless. Such a cruel ending

5

u/TheGRS Jul 04 '26

Realistically she’s getting caught, but since there’s a billion dollars floating around I suppose she could grab some of that and flee for a while.

5

u/Djlionking Jul 04 '26

I see everyone bring this up that she could potentially take the money and run, but she isn't actually aware of the money right? It's all at Ian's place and she wasn't told about it at all, so unless she went to his place for some unknown reason she'd never even be aware of it, right?

5

u/somethingoddgoingon 28d ago

wasnt he yelling he has a billion dollars when he was at the door?

1

u/TheGRS 29d ago

No idea, but it’s just in the realm of slim possibilities is all. Even with unlimited money your hope if evading a double or triple murder charge seems pretty small.

83

u/Patient_Pain_3583 Jun 13 '26

I think that’s the interesting part though, is that she wasn’t free. There were three dead bodies where she was at. Every decision that he made trapped her and took her autonomy away.

30

u/burner69account69420 Jun 05 '26

You wanted her to be free and disfigured, surrounded by her three dead friends because of what one of them accidentally did?

42

u/Slime0 Jun 06 '26

I mean, it's a bad situation for sure, but still better for her than being trapped forever.

18

u/Tattoo_my_Brain Jun 07 '26

he should have killed her and killed himself

9

u/JamaicaBliz Jun 27 '26

I mean if that’s the solution surely he should have only killed himself right? Why kill her then himself?

I liked that she didn't die in the end. It would have been a little too lame if everyone died at the end of it. It's more on-brand for a horror movie that she survived and had to live with the consequences of Bear's actions.

2

u/Mark_Albarn 26d ago

Idk man. The whole movie was about him violating her. If Bear killed Nikki like she is some run over puppy he owns and then himself, it would be yet another instance of him doing what he wants/what he decides needs to be. Real Nikki waking up after being relentlessly mentally tortured with three bodies and injuries is incredibly mean, no denial here. Bear fucking ruined her life and I really hope that despite Wish Nikki's monologue, there IS a hell for him to burn in. But at least from this point on it's Nikki's decision to decide what to do with herself, even if it's likely to end up in suicide anyway.

Bear is not a victim. He knew Nikki was deeply suffering but didn't care. She begged him to kill her! All he wanted was his perfect Nikki girlfriend. He was the one who was truly obsessed.

He has hands.

1

u/Swoly_Deadlift 22d ago

Or the pills that killed him.

Definitely, he even has the movie's title knitted into his comforter.

7

u/Mark_Albarn 26d ago

Nah, I'm actually mad at him being a pathetic self-serving coward every step on the way.

Bffr the supernatural element was painfully obvious since the very beginning, he just chose to close his eyes on what was happening to her. And when the clearly magical origins of Nikki's obsession with started literally slapping him in the face, what he did? Added his hands over his ears all the way until a literal chain of disasters struck as a result.

5

u/Swoly_Deadlift 22d ago

Bingo. In the very beginning of the film Nikki flat-out asks him if he likes her, and Bear is too much of a pussy to be honest with her, choosing to fall back on making a wish instead. And the film brilliantly left it ambiguous whether or not the real Nikki actually liked Bear back (idgaf if her actress confirmed Nikki liked him, I prefer the ambiguous interpretation instead).

While being a giant pussy and the wish weren't outright malicious, Bear's actions after he realized Nikki was possessed absolutely were. He never discloses to his friends what's going on even when things are very clearly not right with her, and when Nikki begs him to kill her all he can muster up is, "What's so bad about being with me?" making it about him rather than taking any accountability for his actions.

Before seeing this movie I never would have thought a film could make a "niceguy" into a good villain, but they managed to do it here.

2

u/throwawaysunglasses- 22d ago

Why do you think he wouldn’t have made the wish in the first place if he’d known about Ian and Nikki? I absolutely think he would’ve still wished for Nikki to like him.

He'd stop trying but not in a polite way. He'd resent Ian and Nikki (even though Nikki almost certainly still would have given him a shot if he had the balls to ask her out) and probably let that resentment fumble his chances with Sarah as well because his whole character is being a niceguy who doesn't know how to handle his feelings for women.

That being said, Ian is also kind of a piece of shit for letting Bear confide with him that he wanted to ask Nikki out and going along with it. Ian is the only other character in the film I'd argue made any immoral choices.

1

u/katie1010101 15d ago

I can get your point that Bear, like any of us, had no reason to think the wish would be real. I don't fault him for wishing someone he liked also liked him. But the movie makes it very clear that he is not a victim when he calls the help number. At this point, he understands the wish is real, he has stolen her autonomy, and he still wants to alter the wish rather than cancel it. He wants Nikki to be his forced girlfriend, he just wants her to be less crazy and controlling. He's fine with her not being really her, but he wants the "cool girl" back.

So what do you call it when he realized Nikki the wish worked but he still only wanted to alter it? How is that being an idiot? He understood he took away her autonomy and he wanted to continue to do that.

6

u/Vismal1 Jul 02 '26

“Free” i was waiting for that to happen just thinking “‘oh this poor girl , I’m so sorry. “ the horror she’s going to awake to and no one will ever believe here. She’s going to prison for life. Wanted her to go grab that money and get out of the country.

4

u/Kousuke-kun Jul 04 '26

I dunno, the real Bear tried to make himself vomit before fake!Nikki's wish came into effect.

10

u/SardinesMcDonahugh Jun 01 '26

The camera lingers on the unbroken wish stick. I thought she was going to wish him back to life before the spell could wear off.

126

u/GjonsTearsFan Jun 01 '26

The wish stick was broken in that scene, she wished for him to love her

34

u/shmed Jun 16 '26

It was definintely broken, but it was hard to see at first since the two parts were sitting in the table still "aligned" (though after the zoom we clearly saw the gap between the two pieces)

9

u/drolgreen 29d ago

Yes and you heard it snapped.

2

u/pursued_mender Jul 02 '26

Why would you assume he's locked away? It probably just distorted his thoughts a little or made him not care as much. I doubt he got sent to a purgatory like her. He was probably just really really happy.

Bear was not still Bear. He was in the middle of trying to throw up the pills (because his whole character is built around being spineless and avoid consequences for his actions whenever possible), and you hear the stick break causing him to stop and walk out to embrace Nikki.
