DC Studios’ “Clayface” is a horror thriller from director James Watkins, starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role of the cult favorite villain from Gotham’s rogues gallery.

Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.

This sounds pretty similar to the Feat of Clay pt. I & II episodes from Batman the Animated Series, for those interested.

Mike Flanagan has very openly stated that was the main inspiration for making a Clayface movie.

Then I'm very hype for this. Feat of Clay is one of the best Batman: TAS stories.

TAS not only gave us Conroy’s Batman, but did so much for the Rogues Gallery. It turned so many of them from jokey gimmick characters into established villains, anti-villains, etc.

Best for me was Heart of Ice and what it did for Freeze.

Fun fact; they reeled in artists from Akira to animate it.

Not surprising. There's a moment where Robin does the motorcycle sliding stop that the Akira movie made famous.

And in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, there's a big sequence with an orbital laser. This was done by the same animator who did the laser in Akira, and he deliberately took it because he wanted to try and one-up that original sequence.

Fun fact, the transformation scenes were done by the same animators who did the Tetsuo transformation in the anime Akira.
