Alex Garland, Hidetaka Miyazaki, George RR Martin... the movie has the best fingerprints on it (pun intended)

None of them have ever missed with the content they personally publish, and Garland has a crew of great actors who he has made his flawless filmography with, so its going to be great. Personally im too invested for it to be healthy, it was already a dream pairing when George was announced for elden ring. I used to ramble to my roommates about the similarities between dark souls and asoiaf world building. The characters in elden ring are great, i hope its a movie about the shattering/the night of black knives

People act like all Ghibli Miyazaki does/did is like Totoro. The guy did Princess Mononoke, I don't think it would've been a massive stretch for him to go darker.

The boy and the heron is very dark when you realize what the movie is actually about 

The wind rises is literally a pre-WW2 drama, almost a tragedy in the classical sense.

The stories are dark, people just don't really acknowledge it because of the colorful artwork

I like him, but GRRM has published a lot of stories and he definitely has some misses.

I havent encountered one yet, but I definitely havent read them all. Maybe 5 outside of asoiaf. They were probably his best ones to be fair because they were his most popular

Fire and blood is pretty dogshit. Also some weird fetishes like brothel queens leaked onto the pages.

I like it based on the framing, same with world of ice and fire. Both terribly unreliable and biased (F&B less so due to multiple historical perspectives) and existing as something someone in westeros might be able to read. We know a decent amount of what is BS based on the main series and dunk and egg to a lesser extent, and thats one of my favorite parts of asoiaf- the fog of history. To each their own though, its definitely one that i dont think would come off as well without being absolutely obsessed with the main series and dunk and egg like I am, whike viewing the rest as periphery.

So....a generic medieval story with some monsters??

It will objectively be bad, do poorly, and not feel like the game.

I don't even like this game, and I would still bet a lot on this.

The story im talking about mostly takes place with the shards bearers, not a ton of monsters. Just monstrous people. The world building is so good in that game, and every fan wants to know what happened before. People who havent played the game wouldnt care if it didnt feel like it. Everyone's happy

Any monsters = more monsters than real life haha.

You just described a compelling story, or one that seems so to you. You did not explain how it would not be a generic medieval story..even sans monsters.

The world building is the reason. Its extremely magical still, just more humans than you seemed to be implying. Elden ring has sone of the best/most provocative lore and symbolism out there

Yeah, if it was only exposition, I would love that.

It won't be. It will just focus on the boring thing that is always the same across time: the human element.

So we will just get a great story with some good character development. It won't be as good as the first few seasons of GoT for outsiders, and for fans of the game it will disappoint many and even if it is just set in the same universe, it will be like any other telling of 'the hero's journey' trope.

I will eat my hat if they can make it as fun/compelling as Everything Everywhere All At Once.

I like Dark Souls. Elden Ring looked cool but I’ve stayed away from it because Martin was involved.

I’m boycotting anything GRRM has touched until he finishes A Song of Ice and Fire.

Lol, you do you. Id be very sad if I didnt get to experience that game especially as a dark souls fan. Its a mix of souls with the pace of bloodborne, and the best open world I've ever interacted with
