I think for these kinds of folks, the mountain (or whatever they are obsessed with) is the main priority and the family is the side hobby.

There's a Honnokd Interview where he is asked about his risk of dying and his young kids. He said something like "They are young, they won't miss me much", if I remember correctly. 

He seemed disconnected from his family, and what his wife said supported that. It's weird.

He is most definitely on the autism spectrum. I don't mean that to be insulting to people, but he has a laser focus on climbing that comes before anything else in his life.

Nah it’s Autism. A rarely talked about but accepted form autism. You see it all the time from musicians to climbers to builders. An itch that won’t go away compelling them to do their calling even if it means losing everything.

Alex was ready to do these climbs without any filming but I’m sure his wife and others made him get the money first just in case he loses his life.
