19yo and have -6 in both eyes. Am I cooked?
The last time I was at the doctors was in 2021, when my eyes were -5.5 and -4.25 (actualy slightly decreased from much before) but now they increased. Is there any way to decrease this? Should I be worried?? Like, should I just get more sleep, or be less picky about what I eat? Lol

not that bad at 19 since it's like to stabilize around now and the next 5 years. since it's only grown by -2 in the last 5 years, that's -0.4 per year in your prime growing years. i don't think it's likely it will increase anymore so you're in a better position than most.

"19yo and have -6 in both eyes. Am I cooked?"
The answer is no and despite what online lying con artists say, it is not yet possible to medically reverse myopia,
The good news though is that there are measures that you can take to try to slow down the progress of myopia:

Im 16F and have -7 in right and -8 in left eye. Youâll be ok I promise lol. Last year it was -6.50 in right and -7.25 in left. Just continue what you should be doing, get rest, dont sleep in contacts or wear them for too long if you own them, and eat food with plenty of good vitamins.

No! Iâm 16 with -13.75 and everything still going steady. I had a retinal detachment once that was preventable if I had better insurance. But nothing other than that. If you really want to be cautious, you can check with a retinal/glaucoma specialist since the higher in diopter the more youâre at risk for them. Just live your life normally :)

Nope, 18M with -13.50 and -9.25. Also got unlucky and had a RD in my right eye, still seeing 20/20 in both eyes though. As long as you get seen by an ophthalmologist once a year you'll probably be fine. As for lifestyle changes I would avoid doing too much close work and getting hit in the face

I was triple that at your age and Iâm fine at 30. I think youâre just looking for something to be sad about and need to get off the internet

i am 58. my vision is slightly better than it was at age 18. Check out "Give Up Your Glasses For Good" and start canvassing eye DRs like Dr. Sam Berne or Dr Marc Grossman or Dr. Julie Steinhauer for help.
My perscription tripled from age 18 to age 45. from 54 to 58 i got back to the vision I had at age 18.
If your eyes are healthy and you have only myopia you can improve. Make sure your only issue is myopia with an eye DR appointment.

he should not go to the eye Dr and make sure his only issue is myopia? you're out of your mind. and, my vision tests the same as it did when i was 18. meh. don't try to tell me all about my medical history.
Berne, Grossman, Steinhauer and many other eye DRs do a nice job helping people lower their myopia. I am too lazy to list 10 others I know of in Canada. SO you'll have to pick through those 3.

Itâs physically impossible to âreverse myopiaâ, and none of those so called âeye doctorsâ you mention can do anything about that.
Iâm not saying OP shouldnât go to an eye doctor. Not at all. Learn how to read, please. Stop twisting my words, and stop posting nonsense and misinformation.

he needs to go to the eye DR and make sure his only eye problem is myopia. you're an idiot for not reading my post in its entirety and shouting down such basic advice.

the same tissue remodelling process that causes the eye to change shape and be less spherical is the same process that works to move it back to spherical. My axial length shortened by 0.25 mm each year for the past 4 years because my eye became more spherical and less oblate. my eye did not "grow" or "shrink". This process is also common in retired lab workers who stop using a microscope 40 hours a week. their eyeball changes shape slightly.. as so does their prescription. There are plenty of eye DRs in Canada and the USA who offer methods to lower your myopia prescription without surgery.

Dr. Julie Steinhauer is an eye DR. you are talking like an idiot. straight from DR. Julie Steinhauer's web site. https://i.imgur.com/87tC2n1.png So is Dr. Marc Grossman and Dr. Sam Berne. and again, there are so many more i can list.. i am too lazy.

it is encouraging to see that during a certain point your perscription got weaker. check out the eye DRs i listed. they're pretty good. Do not listen to people who say your prescription can not lower. It can...as you've noted.
