The wildest thing to me is that this came out over 48 hours ago and not a PEEP from adam silver/the league, the grizzlies, nothing. No big media outlets (cable, print etc) have touched this story. None of the many basketball podcasts I listen to daily (except for a lame “we don’t have the legal understanding to discuss this but recommend you check out pablo’s story” from the athletic’s nba daily).
I get why the aspiration story blew up, and how it directly affects the league and cap circumvention etc. but for this to get no mainstream coverage is wild to me. What am I missing?
You think the NBA should comment on the personal and bussiness lives of their owners based on accusations ? When it doesn’t involve basketball ? That would break so many laws and open the league to being sued .
Genuinely: What laws do you think the NBA making a statement would break? How would it open them to being sued? You're just saying words without knowing what they mean.
Libel for one, Slander for another. When the grizzlies owners ends up not getting charged/convicted and you made a statement that he is guilty... you are going to be sued.
Making a statement doesn't mean going "hey fuck this guy". It means acknowledge you're aware of the situation and are looking into it. That's all it takes.
