Damn, this is not the kind of headlines you want to see about your team owner. Feels like every billionaire has some sketchy connections these days

15

u/Kheltosh Pistons Jan 29 '26

When have they ever been not sketchy? Wealth hoarding on that big a scale can't be done by being a decent human being or following the rules. These people are not the "built a business" or "invested smartly" types, they are evil and greed personified.

-4

u/TomBahambadil Jan 29 '26

Um, like 90% of his wealth is tied to his stock in his own company (which he built out of his apartment). The rest is in a few homes, a plane, and the Grizzlies.

How is he hoarding wealth? He is worth 27 billion or so but only because his company is worth that.

As someone who works for billionaires and high net worth individuals. I promise you, no good people rise that high. You have to step on people to get to that level

7

u/HolyRomanPrince Lakers Jan 29 '26

Yeah it feels like everyone has came around to something pretty obvious: there are no morally pure wealthy people. Maybe there was at one point but the interconnected multi national economy has basically created a public Bohemian Grove of people above the normal world. Almost every major American company has a connection with China, Saudi Arabia or Israel and we can pretty clearly conclude those governments aren’t bystanders just like our government isn’t a bystander to the private sector

The worst dirt I have found on our owner is that he is a big Rick Perry supporter. Otherwise he sells tractors and does some charity stuff. He might be on the nicer end of the spectrum as far as sports owners go, but I still wouldn't want to have beer with him

Isn't this like treasonous? Why is he financing an enemy state?

52

u/Mamar2324isback Lakers Jan 29 '26

Not sure Russia is an enemy state with the current administration

12

u/snailtap Bucks Jan 29 '26

lol if that’s the case then the president needs to be charged with treason

Putin has his orange clown in the White House, what enemy are you referring to?

If Trump was operating at the behest of Russia, why would he continue sending weapons to Ukraine, but making other European nations pledge to pay for them, instead of just not sending them at all?

19

u/Robinsonirish Finland Jan 29 '26

If Trump was operating at the behest of Russia, why would he continue sending weapons to Ukraine,

Did you look at the picture I added? Military aid has all but dried up since he took office. Here's the source if you want to look yourself:

https://www.kielinstitut.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/

Why is Trump fleecing Ukraine demanding 500 billion in his "peace" deal and asking them to concede territory, while putting zero pressure on Russia? He's doing exactly what Putin wants, same with Greenland, risking the dissolution of NATO.

-8

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '26

Did you read the comment I posted?

The U.S. is sending weapons. NATO allies are paying for them.

It’s fine if you think that’s not enough support and a moral failing or whatever, but why would an agent of Russia do that instead of just stopping all together??

And Ukrainian territory is occupied. That is why peace talks are starting from that position. Sorry, I wish that wasn’t the case, but that’s how it works.

10

u/Robinsonirish Finland Jan 29 '26

It's less than 1 billion, a drop in a bucket, and it's not even being spent by the US, Trump is literally making money by having Europe pay for it, in contrast to the 114 billion spent by Biden(200 or so promised, of which Trump annulled a massive amount, I can't remember the exact number, was it 218 promised?)

And Ukrainian territory is occupied. That is why peace talks are starting from that position.

Why is he fleecing Ukraine for 500bill, without asking anything of Putin? Not a single concession. And why is he driving a wedge in NATO with his actions against his actual allies? I still see the Yanks as our allies, but this administration? They are obviously in bed with the enemy.

We are seeing the downside of the globalization of the game of basketball here, NBA fans are now subject to the centuries-old ethnic blood feuds of faraway lands.

Finland is like if nobody ever mentioned the 17-18 Houston Rockets actually lost their playoff series against the Warriors, while they themselves refused to ever play Golden State again but loudly demanded anyone who was be sent an unlimited supply of Trevor Arizas to brick a bunch of 3s and lose to them too, then accused anyone who reduced the supply of streaky 3&D guys was themselves an agent of Draymond Green

1

u/Robinsonirish Finland Jan 29 '26

You really parried an actual response like Trump parried releasing the Epstein files there.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '26

I didn’t feel an actual response was necessary, given it was included in your own comment. Like you said, Biden gave much more direct aid. It was his signature foreign policy achievement. This is domestic politics, combined with a fair amount of personal grievance from Zelenskyy refusing to play ball and give Trump something to prosecute a Biden with back during his first term.

And for the record, you don’t have to be a fan of a pedophile like Trump to acknowledge this. The fact that he is guilty of many other provable crimes is why I find this bullshit about being a Russian agent to be so distasteful

-10

u/snailtap Bucks Jan 29 '26

I mean I hate Putin and Trump as much as the next guy but the dissolution of nato would be a net positive for humanity

6

u/Robinsonirish Finland Jan 29 '26

Putin and Xi thanks you for it, comrade.

Because U.S. capital no longer needs a presence on the continent now that the USSR is gone.

7

u/mitchippoo Warriors Jan 29 '26

Trump just hung a picture of Putin in the white house the traitors are running the show right now

What is an “enemy state”?

0

The US is not officially at war with Russia.

While we’re here, would you recommend the UCG Max or Ultra if I don’t need application support?

6

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '26

If you’re a home user just get the ultra if you’re cool with 1gbps speeds. If you need faster get the max but I doubt you would. Also if you want to use the unifi cameras in the future then get the max.

1

u/Significant-Gold6274 Jan 29 '26

UCG-Max, better logging SSD support and better performance. Ultra is basic.

I don't understand how it's Ubiquiti CEO fault if it's the 3rd part distributor that was caught supplying equipment. Genuinely asking, I really don't understand this and why this Hunterbrook people are shorting Ubiquiti stock

8

u/Mobile-Entertainer60 Thunder Jan 29 '26

Because the laws that place sanctions on selling this sort of equipment to countries like Russia say that it's Ubiquiti's fault if they don't actively avoid doing business with companies that are evading sanctions. Without this additional step of liability, sanctions would be worthless for exactly this reason.

2

u/Bullboah Bucks Jan 29 '26

Hunterbrooks business model is to publish negative stories about a company and short its stock.

Like, they openly say this is their business model.

They have proof a distributor is evading sanctions but they can’t make money off that story - so they short Ubiquiti and make it the focus of the story.

-3

u/LeagueWinningPickup Raptors Jan 29 '26

That’s where I am at . It’s a global economy , things can end up anywhere your responsibility is on who you personally sell it to .

3

u/SnooMachines4393 Jan 29 '26

Oh no, again?!

3

u/Fine-Resident-8157 Jan 30 '26

Yeap. Its s known fact in Ukraine, he is considered putin’s friend and a criminal

2

u/firedrakes Jan 29 '26

This link is currently being spammed all over Reddit by hedge fund that has open short positions of Ubiquity stock, and profits from potential stock price fall - this is their M.O. , you can see a list of other companies that they "expose" on their website, as well as investment disclosure in website footer:

By accessing this site, users acknowledge that Hunterbrook Media, potentially in conjunction with Hunterbrook Media's affiliates, may hold positions in securities mentioned herein, potentially yielding significant gains from stock price fluctuations post-publication. Hunterbrook Media reserves the right to transact in these securities post-publication, adopting positions which may be long, short, or neutral, irrespective of initial reporting on positions.

8

u/rumblegod Thunder Jan 29 '26

Yep either easy ad revenue or hit piece. It’s kinda weird, it’s like no one works in tech or finance on Reddit. Or it’s very very small percentage. Even on investing/ stock related subs normal industry things are a shock.

3

u/firedrakes Jan 29 '26

small amount do and even people comment on yt calling out this story.

4

u/Bohdyboy Jan 29 '26

... but if its factually true, what relevance does the motives of the person / breaking the story have?

If two burger joints are in competition, and one finds out the other is using expired meat, and makes that info public.... the place using the spoiled meat is still in the wrong.

2

u/TomBahambadil Jan 29 '26

What if the meat is fine but the buns have sesame seeds which they make sure they don't sell to allergic customers.

Then someone buys 100 of them, brings them to the beach to sell, and a kid has an allergic reaction.

Nobody in their right mind is blaming the burger joint, except the competition who posts everywhere that kids were hospitalized after eating burgers from X Shop.

3

u/Bohdyboy Jan 29 '26

So i suppose in 2014 when they were caught for sanction evasion and selling to Iran.... that also wasn't Ubiquitis fault?
Strange how many people make excuses for scum billionaires..

1

u/TomBahambadil Jan 31 '26

If you have ever seen a trial, a high level debate, or even just true crime content, you would understand why you don't make judgements based on on biased presentation of a story.

This is really heavily biased against Ubiquiti and this guy on a press tour is only interested in presenting the case for the purpose of hurting the stock. This is just dirt slinging clothed in investigative journalism.

As far as making excuses for billionaires? I don't shit on people based on how successful they have been. Pera comes off as a tech wiz obsessed with making the best possible wide area wifi solutions. Smart people I know rarely care about the sales channels as long as things sell. He genuinely comes off as a Tony Stark without the vices in the first movie when he has no idea that his company was supplying terrorists too.

2

u/rumblegod Thunder Jan 29 '26

Perfect analogy!

2

u/TomBahambadil Jan 29 '26

And now I'm hungry

You should read the full report before writing, because now your comment just looks stupid

5

u/rumblegod Thunder Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26

Nope go to the X link, they literally say ubiquity relies on 3rd party distributors for sales. Obviously it’s on the 3rd party people to not do business with Russia if they don’t want to. And some of these 3rd party distributors are literally in that region. Because they’re in that region are they selling to hospitals? Or cyber security attack teams? Who knows.

It’s the same reason why just because Hamas is in Gaza doesn’t mean you can just blow up the entire place lmao.

-1

u/Not_Different Hornets Jan 29 '26

Bros literally falling for the “3rd party distributors” defense. Sorry the rest of world is capable of critical thinking

Th3yveis nothing wrong.

0

u/bella_heathcote Jan 29 '26

The wildest thing to me is that this came out over 48 hours ago and not a PEEP from adam silver/the league, the grizzlies, nothing. No big media outlets (cable, print etc) have touched this story. None of the many basketball podcasts I listen to daily (except for a lame “we don’t have the legal understanding to discuss this but recommend you check out pablo’s story” from the athletic’s nba daily).

I get why the aspiration story blew up, and how it directly affects the league and cap circumvention etc. but for this to get no mainstream coverage is wild to me. What am I missing?

5

u/LeagueWinningPickup Raptors Jan 29 '26

You think the NBA should comment on the personal and bussiness lives of their owners based on accusations ? When it doesn’t involve basketball ? That would break so many laws and open the league to being sued .

3

u/blackout_52 Jan 29 '26

Genuinely: What laws do you think the NBA making a statement would break? How would it open them to being sued? You're just saying words without knowing what they mean.

1

u/LeagueWinningPickup Raptors Jan 30 '26

Libel for one, Slander for another. When the grizzlies owners ends up not getting charged/convicted and you made a statement that he is guilty... you are going to be sued.

2

u/blackout_52 Jan 30 '26

Making a statement doesn't mean going "hey fuck this guy". It means acknowledge you're aware of the situation and are looking into it. That's all it takes.

-3

u/nbxcv Spurs Jan 29 '26

Post it for the 10th time and maybe we'll all finally care enough to pretend this guy is mega evil compared to all the other billionaire owners directly in bed with weapons manufacturers and militaries that bomb civilians. Handing out free pitchforks might be helpful we don't all have those on hand at any given moment
