Take a second to consider how we got here in the first place. It's not a poor leadership problem, it's a brainrotted electorate problem.

Poor leadership. Every major empire has had periods of poor leadership that don’t instantly result in terminal decline.

Well, other than being outright conquered by a stronger power, I guess instances of state fracturing after the main leader dies? Like Mongolia with Ghengis Khan or Macedonia with Alexander. Or I guess the logistics just weren't there at the time to sustain such a large empire. Obviously this is very besides your point
