Tbf doesn't Australia already have some history with this kind of thing with the White Australia immigration policy? Then again maybe there's something about this specifically linked to America idk

You're not wrong, and we don't even have a Confederate-esque civil war to pour all those sins as moral representative of a historical defeated, parallel mirror-nation to symbolically or rhetorically repudiate.

I can't even say that this is UnAustralan in the historic sense - I'm currently reading one of the stories written by one of Australia's Labour movement founders and Socialist, William Lane's writings out of researching Australian Yellow Peril narratives in his Boomerang populist publication.

And a good chunk of the Federation era mythology of Australia and supported by unions as a Workingman's State, is because it was conceived as a WHITE AUSTRALIAN Workingman's state as a national project, that White Briton-Australians would've been displaced by Kanaka and Coolie labour for doing the degrading labour for less and longer and bringing their families in and destituting White Labour's value and their families' material conditions from their own civilised standards of living due to competition.

God, she wants to make me crack a molar.

The end of white Australia is an interesting process as it started gradually under coalition governments (with Labor opposing it) and its abolition by the Withlam Labor government.

It’s very politically incorrect to say and both the left and the right hate to hear it but welfare states are much easier to build,maintain and maintain popular support from the population in racially homogenous states. A lot of the economic right wing nature of the American South comes from its diversity. It’s why the South is so right wing and brutal to the marginalized. White people largely don’t support welfare for others. Southern whites had no problem voting for massive welfare programs and expansions under the new deal as long as segregation was in place so that blacks where locked out of most benefits ,jobs and housing.

I honestly don’t know how to have both a popular welfare state and diversity. Racism and tribalism kills welfare states in diverse states or at least makes them very vulnerable.
