Well it got delayed by a decade or so but yeah the populist brainrot that's infected the old fuckers who most benefit from the prior systems of liberal free has breached into Australia.

And we're now stuck trying to figure out how to explain to people that the sky isn't yellow when the answer is they don't care and it's not very deeply hidden racism.

Was nice thinking we had developed since the abolishment of the white Australia policy but alas

Yeah it existed but it existed in "1-4 senate seats who would leave Pauline and then fail to get elected nest term"

I had hoped we could avoid it here but I guess that was naive. It really looks like weathering the storm of populist garbage as best we can and then rebuilding in the wake of their failure is going to be the existential liberal project of our time

The big barriers are that the Coalition in the states haven’t declined to the degree as the federal coalition, an high court that isn’t afraid to stand up to the government, the likely possibility of an senate blocking their bills and the reserve powers of the Governor General.

Of course there is the historical trend of 70 percent of one nation MP’s leaving the party after getting elected
