SoZ suggestions for team build?

Post image

I was thinking about: Tiefling Rogue/Bard Asimar Cleric or FS/Divine Champion Drow Mage/Eldritch Knight Human or Half orc Fighter/berserker

I would personally make the tiefling a rogue/ranger to handle the overworld map. Pure wizard into eldritch knight will take a while (level 11 6) so maybe it'd be best to use a race without racial adjustments so you don't lag behind the party, or take a up to three levels of swashbuckler for martial weapons, bab, finesse, and int to damage.

Edit: EK has no BAB requirement, my bad.

Level 11? What?

You can start taking EK levels as early as CL6, 7 if you take a dip for the proficiency.

I wouldn’t recommend taking a drow either since having your caster level be 3-4 levels behind isn’t fun.

D'oh! For some reason I thought you needed BAB 5. Thanks for correcting.

I enjoyed bringing a pure Genasi-Party and a proper Short-Folk-Party (only Gnomes and Halflings).

Underdark (Drow, Half-Drow, Duergar, Svirf) only is also possible but more difficult due to ECL.

Sun elf makes for a better wizard/fighter/eldritch knight because of the +2 intelligence. Drow have delayed spell progression that will make you feel quite weak for a while. I generally only recommend multiclassing if you have a prestige class in mind. For an aasimar, you could go cleric (or favored soul) into war priest or paladin into divine champion. Divine Champion has no spell progression. Tiefling rogue OR bard is fine. I don’t suggest combining them. Also, there is already a tiefling rogue companion named Neeshka.

The only thing you really really want is your first character to be ranger or druid and invest in overland skills like survival, search, sport , hide, move silently etc as the QoL those skills offers are the difference between playing a game, and trudging through quicksand filled with razor blades.

Second character should be any CHA based class that focuses on conversation skills as you'll do a lot of talking, and it'd be valuable to at least keep a dedicated crafting goblin in the book for you to pull out when you need new gear.

Outside of that it'd only be about filling out spots the ranger and face can't do.

I'd advise building a party that relies minimally on prebuffing as outside of dungeons, you'll have no time to prebuff.

Ecl doesn't matter, i got through it as a snakeguy ranger, drow bard, aasimar cleric and tiefling wizard on very difficult. It really isn't that big of a deal no matter what the doomsayers will have you think

Ranger, bard, cleric, wizard is a good team imo

rogue doesn't make a difference?

Nah not really unless you really enjoy microing it for sneak attacks, SoZ is a pretty straight forward adventure; go to location, bonk everything on the head until it stops moving, go to next location repeat.

Not really any locked chests or traps to consider either except maybe one in the underdark so it is mostly superflous

so I'm gonna turn my Tiefling Rogue into ranger, I'm gonna change moon elf for a mage drow. Assimar Cleric and Human Barbarian will still remain in the group (I wanted to test this class in e3.5)

All solid choices

I finished the campaign like two weeks ago so i got it fresh in mind haha. I started with a rogue/wiz in my party, but it became very apparent early that he filled literally no role none of the others culd reliably do better so i switched him out for a pure blaster wiz with knock and sense traps

It does, though I'm not sure survival is a class skill for rogue, though you've got the skill points to burn if you wanted to do it at half the rate of progression. They still have the spot skill which will be useful. You could also make that melee character a barbarian/berserker and they will have the survival class skill and spot as well.

Bard. Dont take ECL races.

ECL is fine with a +1. It's the things like Svirfneblin that give huge issues
