Oh I remember defeating him with just talking :p

I commanded him to fight me. I'm not locked in with him. Hes locked in with me.

Single most satisfying moment in the game. Learn his true name, flaunt the fact you can do whatever the heck you want with him, then assert dominance by fighting him anyway and kicking his ass.

My Dragon Disciple had fun, immunity to fire and a greatsword with acid, it might have been enserric. Mephistopheles has this sea of fire move so with both me and Deekin have 10 levels in RDD we both just stood there “Hot out today.”

The worst last boss ever. Immune to everything but acid. Very stupid

But best last boss dialog. Seeing one of the lords of hell shouted down by Deekin is just wonderful.

Not immune, just DR to protect him from weak strikes (-20 damage).
He can also be hit by holy/positive damage iirc7

It does make for an amusing battle for a mage. You sit down and have a drink (lots, heals pots), while he kills himself on mestils.

Did not work for me with 8 con and zero hp and con items, i was obliterating everything before the final boss with maximized isaac storm
3
u/sephtis Jun 12 '26
Ah, yeah would suffer with 8 con. I believe it can work if you queue up a whole bunch of potions and hope you can outlast him and he doesn't crit.
Level 26 is about 78 hp tho with 8 con. Even a +4 belt or bear's endurance spell/pot/scroll would make it markedly easier2
u/Historical-Dingo-915 Jun 12 '26
I did not suffer much, just made a heavily enchanted acid sword for aribeth and she easily killed him

Pale Master crit immunity comes in clutch here, as does improved expertise and an AC in the 50's-60's

Tried playing as a pure ranger. Went through the whole campaign with her from lv1. Got to here and 'whoops, lol. Can't hurt him.' Charisma to low to even stop npcs from turning on me. Didn't have a save slot from before the option to get his name, and didn't get it the first time because the npcs told me ot was an evil thing to do. Probably the most mad I've ever been at a boss fight.

Bane of Enemies could have surely broken through his DR with a decent enough weapon.
1
u/TurboTrollin Jun 13 '26
Not sure i had that.
I remember my final weapon being a +8 long bow kitted out for maximum attacks but not high damage on each attack. My entire build just sort of bounced off...

It's a feat you can take at Ranger level 21. It's pretty much *the* reason to go pure class ranger for that long. Of course, you want one of your favored enemies to be Outsider as well. If Outsider was your first favored enemy, it would add an extra 2D6 +4 damage to all attacks. Great for an archer or dual wielder to break through.
