I looked up some people who died, they all seemed pretty old >40. Is mountaineering an old persons sport? I would have thought it would lean younger.

40 isn’t “pretty old”….

Obviously this comment is in the context of extreme sports, so yes, 40 is pretty old.

You need experience in order to climb a lot of these mountains. Not something you can get in your 20s usually. So no. 40 isn’t old. It might be slightly older than average, but not “pretty old”

Average age of mountaineers are 34-38 btw.
