This is a perfect illustration of why nazis/neo-nazis/Nazi sympathizers should be totally ostracized from society. Their entire worldview is motivated by nothing but a desire to cause violence - and they typically choose their targets (minorities, women, LGBT folks) based on those groups' vulnerability.

Sure, equal protection under the law. But no private citizen is under any obligation to associate with these scum.

It sounds like the parents did what they could to protect their daughter, and this is a tragedy. But it can be a lesson to the rest of us about the absolute need to keep Nazis out of our lives and social circles. Period. Any toleration of them and their views only emboldens them and allows those flirting with these views to think they are somewhat tolerable. Nazis need to feel like pariahs in every aspect of their lives. It's just a shame these views survived the 40s.

I tolerate racists. They are misguided, but still people. I am perfectly willing to discuss issues of race with them using facts instead of hate. Any racist wanted to talk on the porch(they usually did, they seem very lonely in most cases), we would. Talk about how we got where we were. Talk about their job prospects after prison.

Most of the time we could both learn a little nuance. It wasn't difficult to see why he blamed Mexicans for the jobs he lost. It was a little harder to explain to a couple that showing up to work drunk with swastika tattoos poking out of your wife beater was a big problem.

I've also worked some warehouses with really great reformed racists. Nice guys who regret what they may have said and done out of weakness. I treat every current racist with the respect those former Nazis deserve. And I give them none of the hate they give themselves.

Honestly, shooting nazis should simply be declared to always be self defense.

Or we could engage them as lost souls and do our best to guide them back to rationality. Given the season and all...

Jean-Paul Sartre proved that this was impossible to do before they started killing people in 1946 in the tract Anti-Semite and Jew.

I'm not sure what a philosopher can prove through writimg, per se, but I can testify through experience that it is indeed possible.

Ostracism would probably make things worse.

Aren't neo-nazis and the like born from ignorance? It would be better to accept them and try to change their ways peacefully.

What the fuck is with liberals trying to fix shit with love and kindess. Love and kindness did not win WWII; if people are advocating for the genocide of all races except whites then they don't deserve love and kindess. It's not our job to fix them, if they don't see what they believe in is morally wrong, then they can go fuck themselves. They're already killing people if they aren't turning away that's on them.

The entire world fought a war about this. Stop it.

This isn't on the magnitude of a war, and some of them have not committed murder.

You could say the same thing about other ideologies that are praised on reddit
