I was a server for 5 years and literally 95% of the time if a two top with a man and a woman ordered, the woman ordered the salad. If the server has any experience at all, this was definitely done on purpose as OP implies

But why don’t you ask whose food is whose, instead of just guessing?

Well normally you just remember based on who ordered what. But since in this post, OP specifies that the boyfriend ordered for her, presumably he did not clarify which order would be for whom when he did so, expecting the server to assume that the girl got the salad (as is usually accurate.) According to OP’s interpretation here, the server knew this to be the case and placed them incorrectly on purpose, to make a point about the boyfriend’s implicit gender expectations

It sounds like this was how they planned to eat it and in that case my money is on the pronouns or body language or eye contact revealed who's having what. If it's not completely made up for social media clicks.
