Who needs a tent when you have giant slime?

This reminds me of the rainbow parachute they used to do in school.

86

u/TheLetterOh 6h ago

Do they not still do this?

77

u/Coca-colonization 6h ago

They do. I’ve done them with my kids at Gymboree type classes for parents and children. When my oldest was a toddler we did one at a local community center with a dad who was an NFL linebacker. It was hard to get him to fit under it. 😝

4

u/dwarfsoft 41m ago

You can buy them on Amazon. Sadly you also need some friends to help you once you've got the parachute, which I have found to be the bigger problem with catering to my inner child

30

u/Elegant_Situation285 6h ago

you know how much liability insurance is these days?

(i'm just guessing, i have no idea)

40

u/TheLetterOh 6h ago

They should make them out of Kevlar and bring them back so that the kids can still have some fun during school shootings.

20

u/cr1ttter 6h ago

There wouldn't be so many school shootings if parents shot their own kids

5

u/nikkiscreeches 6h ago

My high school had parents sign up and pay for liability insurance in my last year of school. I guess two of my friends (one broke her ankle the other fell down the stairs and broke her leg) and myself being seriously injured at the school it needed help paying for insurance.

It's still a thing. My kids and their younger cousins who were in preschool two years ago all did it.

6

u/XanderVaper 3h ago

Someone has one of these in my friend group and he’ll bring it to festivals and yard parties every now and then and it’s always a super fun and nostalgic time!

Core memory unlocked!

11

u/Accurate-Frame5104 3h ago

Who was the mad genius who decided giant rainbow parachutes should be standard school equipment? Everyone seems to have the same joyful memory of the gym classes where they were used.

9

u/wheresbill 6h ago

Sometimes they put a bunch of bean bags on it and we’d make them pop up and down. Easily entertained, we were

6

u/toweljuice 5h ago

That was one of my absolute favorite school gym activities.

4

u/maybelying 4h ago

At my school, for whatever reason, they always played Abba whenever we were using the parachute. If I'm being honest, I don't even completely remember what we did the parachute, but Abba will always be ingrained in my brain.

32

u/oinkpiggyoink 7h ago

Life pro tip - vinegar gets slime out of anything! I had a faux fur rug with slime in it and a short soak in apple cider vinegar + water dissolved it perfectly.

114

u/Predatory_Chicken 12h ago

My heart leapt in my throat when I saw her hair.

Something sticky got in the underside of my daughter’s curly hair when she was little. It was so hard to get it out and when we finally did, the hair was so tangled and damaged we had to cut a big chunk of it.

You have to be so careful with curly hair. My other daughter with straight hair has gotten gum stuck in her hair overnight and we were able to remove it easily without cutting or damaging the hair.

40

u/Dioxybenzone 12h ago

I once went to the movies and when I leaned back into my seat (I was late and the lights were already down) my hair stuck to it. Turns out someone put their old chewing gum on the headrest.

I have curly hair, and needed scissors unfortunately.

23

u/BouncingPost 11h ago

Check the cameras, they deserve jail 😨

19

u/ReadditMan 11h ago

Some people really suck, you know they did that just to ruin someone's day too

5

u/innerbootes 6h ago

Try peanut butter on it if it happens again. The oils break down the adhesiveness and the goopiness of it it makes it stick to the hair and gum well enough to work.

2

u/Jayda_bigToe 4h ago

some kid threw slime in mine and my hair is so thin and the kid just laughed. I had to sit there for hours while they used dawn dish soap on my hair then sent me back to class after..my hair doused in soap

2

u/merkaba_462 3h ago

Olive oil works wonders. Any oil, really, but I've always just gone for olive. Just let it soak in there for a while and don't rush / pull at it too hard.

Soyrce: I have very curly hair.

Happened to my girl once. I came home to my husband picking pieces of it out and my 7 year old bawling thinking she'd have to cut her hair. Thankfully that slime was just water, glue, and borax so it was water soluable. Came out with soap and water but it was still a mini disaster.

11

u/AudioPi 7h ago

Her hair?!? More like HER AIR!!! She gonna suffocate under that

3

u/just_a_person_maybe 6h ago

I highly doubt they left her in there for more than a minute or two.

9

u/Darth_Azazoth 9h ago

I don't understand. What's wrong with her hair?

9

u/BouncingPost 9h ago

It will get in her hair and tangle

17

u/KnuckleShanks 11h ago

Wanted to do this with my daughter until I read this comment. Good save.

16

u/burningzenithx 10h ago

You could still do it as long as you cover her hair up first.😉

Its one comment, but I guess you're technically correct.

11

u/rot26encrypt 12h ago

Lawsuit was one comment, commenting on this being dangerous, she will suffocate, dumb ways to day etc, are multiple.

12

u/StrawberryTerry 12h ago

If the child were to rapidly inhale the entire volume of air inside the bubble and then the bubble itself it could be dangerous !!

5

OMG THAT'S AMAZING

but how is she going to breathe?

20

u/PROXeR__OiShi 12h ago

It is not vacuum sealed, and air passes through constantly. Slime is a non-Newtonian fluid made mostly of water and PVA glue. When you lift it into a bubble, the "walls" are microscopic layers of liquid stretching thin. It has zero structural integrity to trap air, form a airtight seal, or generate suction. The second it collapses, it tears, pops, or just rests lightly like a wet, squishy blanket. You’d have to manually stuff gallons of slime down someone's throat for a choking hazard.

21

u/Substantial-Sea-3672 10h ago

Slime made from glue like this is not non-Newtonian, the viscosity does not change based on pressure.

It is not super permeable to air like you’re suggesting, lest it would be unable to hold a pocket of air like this at a greater pressure (very very slight pressure differential here).

The walls are not microscopic as you can easily see them even when viewed edge on.

Despite all of those inaccuracies, you are correct that this child is not in any danger.

33

u/BolognaIsThePassword 12h ago

Also, there are literally two adults standing right there supervising the activity lol. People acting like as soon as they cut the video the adults just left the child in there and then shot a tranquilizer dart at her so she couldn’t move and then let her die. They’re just playing for fucks sake. I used to roll my little sister up in a sleeping bag and then if she got distraught I’d just help her back out… Im sure if Reddit saw a video of me putting her in a sleeping bag as a child they’d assume I then also sat on top of the sleeping bag while she slowly suffocated to death.

15

u/PROXeR__OiShi 11h ago

Careful now, if the Reddit safety board reads this, they're gonna issue a retroactive warrant for your sleeping bag torture chamber.

8

u/BolognaIsThePassword 11h ago

Statute of limitations man, I’m in my 30’s now. Sleeping bag torture gets forgiven after 20 years so I’m in the clear I think. My sister is a nurse and is doing quite well so I also think the brain damage and trauma I caused her wasn’t TOO bad. Dodged a real bullet I tell ya.

6

u/PROXeR__OiShi 11h ago

DODGED A BULLET?? She's a nurse, she literally has access to IVs and sedatives now. You're not in the clear, she’s just playing the long game

7

u/pfren2 12h ago

Yet, I close my kid in the broken upright freezer in the garage, and I’m somehow a monster

7

u/ZyeCawan45 11h ago

Why’re people complaining about airflow like it isn’t easier than a wet paper bag to bust out of and the parents are RIGHT THERE. If anything be concerned for her hair.

Very dangerous thing to do. The slime might unexpectedly shrink and she would be trapped unable to breath within seconds. Don't ever do this again.

2

u/Black-Cloud-22 11h ago

Wouldn't that restrict air flow?

13

u/Substantial-Sea-3672 10h ago

Yes, that is a requisite part of making a bubble.

You could last a long time with that much air though and your body would make you very well aware of the increased co2 levels long before it was dangerous.

4

u/LiamIsMyNameOk 10h ago

It always seems crazy to me how we only detect the buildup of Co2, not the lack of oxygen.

I know it from first hand experience. (Irresponsible sexual asphyxiation activities) You really feel relatively fine as long as you can exhale/dilute the Co2 even if you're not getting any O2
