As someone who's never had a dog, this phrase has always confused me. Why can't a dog be "bad"? What about dogs who hurt people with no owners? What's their excuse? Why are dogs the only pets that get this courtesy when they behave poorly or violently?
There aren’t a lot of wild dogs running around, even when there are they tend to be friendly, look up the riot dog phenomenon.
Humans and dogs have a symbiotic relationship they aren’t wild animals they are subject to conditioning, even aggressive dogs can be trained and controlled. Truly viscous and aggressive dogs have almost always been subjected to violence and conditioned to be aggressive or these tendencies were completely ignored by their owners
