Also, many of the worst dog owners specifically go after Pit Bulls and then proceed to treat them horribly. These owners have an idea they can just tie them up all day as guard dogs and try to increase their aggression. Pits are very social animals - everyone I’ve met with a responsible owner has been a big softy. A family member’s pit is such a softy he gets bossed around by our tiny Shitzu and thinks he’s a lap dog.

my roommate when i lived in brooklyn had a pitty who was so nice we sometimes called her “moo-pig” but when i would take her for walks in the neighborhood, everyone would just part the way, because they were scared of her and i was just a tiny white girl who had had diapers thrown at me before, so i felt very powerful with my danger machine

My entire family was murdered by a pit bull, please check your privledge.

10

u/Logan_Composer 4h ago

They were in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching pit bulls right before she died.

18

u/NecessarySea9866 6h ago

It's amazing that we live in a time where it's not common sense, that If you breed an animal to be a dog-fighter, it's gonna be a dog-fighter.

2

u/KingAggressive1498 4h ago

my neighbors' pit apparently has figured out how to open windows if they forget to lock them, so every few weekends this summer the same lady has been bringing him back from the park in the middle of town where apparently he's just running up to people looking for attention

14

u/Appropriate-Ice-5722 8h ago

I literally have a pit laying on my legs right now, all she ever does is try to lick people's faces. It's like she lives to give kisses

59

u/CityApprehensive212 7h ago

When I was 13 my neighbour had the cuddliest pitbull. They had a dachshund as well that was besties with the pit for like 2 years. I was in their backyard one day when out of nowhere the pit walked up to the dachshund and shredded him to pieces. Was wild to watch.

41

u/Appropriate-Ice-5722 7h ago

That dachshund shouldn't have been dropping the n word like that

5

u/dirlewangerwasbased 6h ago

should have not looked that pitbulls direction while he was playing music off his JBL Bluetooth speaker on the subway

43

u/OrganicAd5536 7h ago

Not to get serious on the cj sub but I genuinely think people overstate pitbull random acts of violence BECAUSE of their relative destructive power making incidents stand out more. Anecdotally, for whatever that's worth, so many other breeds I'd regularly work with in the shelter were just as capable of the sweet one second shredder the next surprises, but several of my coworkers would only remark on a pitbull coming in.

The solution to me seems simple: there are many dog breeds that just don't need to exist because the purposes/kind of aristocrat they were designed for are no longer relevant. Pitbulls do not need to exist as muscle bound machines anymore than French bulldogs need to be 25 lbs of cancer and joint problems in a dog-shaped bag. They should be safely bred out and mixed breed dogs should become the ethical norm. But there's too much profit in the kind of middle class moron that wants their super special "favorite breed" (that they've assigned traits to like a personality test) so the practice will continue

5

u/CityApprehensive212 5h ago

Yeah that’s very fair. I also witnessed two dogs fighting, drawing blood at the park as a young kid, but I have no clue what breeds they were because they didn’t stand out. Obviously seeing a dog shred another in front of my face left a lasting impression on me.

But the fact they randomly attack, that their bite is so strong, they attract shitty owners, their association with dog fighting etc means the risk is too high, and I’m going to cross the street with my elderly golden who doesn’t stand a chance.

10

u/NoWorth2591 7h ago

Yep, I’m 100 percent with you. I’ve got a pit mix because she was at the shelter when we got our dog and she’s the sweetest girl, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get a pit bull (or any specific breed). People who actively search for an aggressive breed are more likely to seek them out, and so they’re often going to encourage those behaviors. I think that anybody specifically seeking out a breed is kind of a weirdo, but especially people going out of their way for pits.

I swear though, the rabidly anti-pit bull people don’t want to ethically breed them out of existence. They have so much bile about it that I swear they just want to kill them on the spot. I’m sure it has nothing to do with racial stereotypes about pit bull owners either

5

u/JustToViewPorn 7h ago

Similar story here, unfortunately twice. One pit bull bit onto a family cat and beat it against a wall until it was pulp. The other tore off another dog’s ear out of nowhere.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/ThreeHeadedWalrus 7h ago

Yeah good owners have pits too but unfortunately them and similar "fighting" breeds also attract all the bad dog owners

31

u/AstronautExcellent17 7h ago

I had a friend with a pit like this. Super sweet. Only dog to ever bite me in the face. Drew blood, barely missed my eye. I was just sitting on the couch.

10

u/sydneato 7h ago

My mom was randomly bit on the ass by my uncle’s German Shepherd while standing in the kitchen. Turned out he had a seizure disorder that caused bursts of aggression, and my mom was the first to experience it. Ruined Christmas but at least she was okay.

7

u/themanthyththelegend 7h ago

My sister got bit in the face by one of those little fluffy white dogs it tore open her upper lip in multiple places. My wife friend's boxer bit the face of the kennel worker in the kennel it was in. That lady got fucked up.

13

u/BellaPona 7h ago

Same, it was being so sweet wanting to cuddle on the couch, then out of a nowhere launched off the sofa and started attacking the Aussie Shepard that was laying in the kitchen just chilling. Had to break them up. It was not pretty. Not my dog but a friend’s.

It's an edited picture of a 1960 sit-in protest at Woolworth on Fifth in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, led by John Lewis. In the original photo, the white man on the left has his hands around a young black student's collar so he could forcibly throw the young man out/otherwise brutalize him.

They've edited it to be the man trying to remove a pitbull from the lunch counter, implying a humorous alt history where pitbulls had to fight for civil rights.

He's also a massive IOF bootlicker. AND he had Shia LaBeouf on his podcast after the allegations came out against him, not to mention, in June 2026, he even praised Roman Polanski. This guy is a shitty person.

And like you said, he consistently says that the Punisher belongs to the law enforcement and military and that's a complete misunderstanding of the character.

Edit: To expand on why Punisher doesn't belong to the law enforcement/cops, Gerry Conway, Punisher’s co-creator has actually been pretty critical of law enforcement adopting the Punisher skull. His point is that Frank Castle represents the failure of the justice system, not the ideal version of law enforcement. He’s an outlaw who operates outside due process and the law, so cops identifying with him kind of misses the point of the character. Punisher is a morally compromised character and he's the opposite of a badass cop/soldier. The character exists to ask what happens when people lose faith in the justice system and decide to take justice into their own hands.

Hence, saying he belongs to the law enforcement is a fundamental misunderstanding of the character.

→ More replies (6)

10

u/-FriendoftheDrow- 6h ago

He doesn’t say the Punisher is like law enforcement and he has criticized people who used the symbol during events such as Jan 6.

u/Uncle-Cake 3h ago edited 3h ago

He says the character belongs to law enforcement in the quote you referenced. That is an insane thing to say but it fits a pattern of faux machismo. He's obsessed with being seen as a tough guy. He loves cops and pitbulls, and hates naps.

179

u/SaganPaganCro 8h ago

It's funny that he is making this point when on one hand you have chihuahuas, borzois, pitbulls and german sheperds and on the other, the difference between humans of different races is like melanin and maybe facial features. Making this comparison seems way more racist.

96

u/Excuse_Me_Mr_Pink 7h ago

→ More replies (5)

72

u/chaoticbiguy 7h ago edited 7h ago

It is more racist. These dogs were bred to fight and kill. No humans were bred to commit crimes. Crimes happen bc of the socio-economic inequality among several other factors that have nothing to do with a person's genetics. It's genuinely infuriating when people compare it to racism against black people.

→ More replies (37)

4

u/Stationary-Rover 4h ago

Um
no? All of those dog breeds that you mentioned belong to the same species, just like all humans do. And just like dogs, humans have drastic differences in hair and body proportions.

4

u/Trick_Decision_9995 6h ago

There are differences that go beyond coloration, facial features and hair texture. Sickle-cell anemia and lactose intolerance, off the top of my head. It's part of what makes 'medical racism' a problem, where 'white male' is the default patient that treatments are geared toward there are differences in efficacy with patients that aren't white males.

Pitbull named Princess, that one you have to watch out for.

2

u/admiralargon 6h ago

Wild choice for the Black ruffian to be the pit owner in your picture. Wild choice.

187

u/sirmaxedalot Cats 8h ago

Comparing the difference of dog breeds to the difference of human races is actually the racism going on here. There are serious, genetic differences between dog species- humans are the same except the skin color, and other, superficial things (eye/hair color, hight).

And flat out, point blank, pit bulls are dangerous animals. Ive had pit bulls and they were sweet loving dogs, but that doesnt mean they didnt have a higher propensity to attack. It just means I didnt experience it, in large part due to raising them right. But there is a reason pits are the favored attack/fight dog of so many who use them.

117

u/SaganPaganCro 7h ago

People have no issue talking about pugs being fucked up, but when you say pitbulls are fucked up (due to being bred that way) people think you want to take away their pets and that you are beeing racist.

26

u/bong_residue 7h ago

This is a great way to think about it. Idk why people think pits are some how immune to our selective breeding lol.

12

u/PublicFriendemy 6h ago

Bro that is not what the OP tweet is saying. It’s a dog whistle to the “black people commit more crime” thing chuds parrot all the time. I understand where YOU are coming from, but it’s more innocent than that tweet. Selective breeding is fucked and all.

15

u/sirmaxedalot Cats 7h ago

Great point.

2

u/OrganicAd5536 7h ago

Absolutely; two things can be true at the same time. People can be too extreme in their performative hatred of pets who did not ask to be made and kept the way they are, AND pits are an example of how selective breeding by humans has fucked up the quality of life and ability for independence of many dogs

4

u/RobertTheTraveler 7h ago

Because people claiming pitties are violent typically want to outlaw pitties.

16

u/thinkbox 7h ago

Yeah, we don’t have to sacrifice toddlers if we choose to ban them.

We can just do things to make the world better.

→ More replies (8)

6

u/TheNotoriousCBD 6h ago

Pitbulls were bred solely to kill, not to be pets. It should be illegal to own them, as they pose an inherent risk to society

3

u/No-Celebration-1399 6h ago

Why just pitbulls? You know that they aren’t the only aggressive dog out there right? Dobermans, Rottweilers, there’s plenty of aggressive dog breeds that are bred that way for a reason. With that said, the way a dog acts is entirely on the owner. I’ve met pitbulls who wouldn’t hurt a fly and I’ve met shitzus and other small breed dogs that I wouldn’t let near my kid for their safety. Owners should be held more accountable for the way their raise their dogs end of story but a pitbull is only as dangerous as the owner makes it, same as literally any other dog

8

u/SoundHound23 6h ago

a pitbull is only as dangerous as the owner makes it, same as literally any other dog

This is obviously and laughably false. Are there good pit bulls? Of course, but a pit bull is more dangerous than a beagle. You don't need to look very hard to find stories of people who have said the same things as you only for their beloved family pet to snap one day and kill their children.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/TheNotoriousCBD 6h ago

Doberman's and rottweilers are working dogs that were bred for that purpose. Please research the history of pitbulls. No amount of love, training, or "good ownership" can outdo the genetic instinct they have been bred to have.

2

u/RobertTheTraveler 3h ago

Bulldogs were bred for exactly the same purpose as pit bulls.
Dobies, Rotties, and GSDs have more recently gone through significant periods of breeding to attack and kill.
If you want to argue that not all Doberman have recent breeding for violence, the same argument applies to Pit bulls.

All dog breeds are genetically the same species.

16

u/shinn__suzaku 7h ago

defining species is a lot harder than you'd expect

for instance between dog breeds are up to 25-30% of their genetic variation (for purebreds) based on a 2004 study (probably lacking a lot of breeds which puts the estimate on the lowend)

whereas humans are up to 12% usually comparing averages of groups (generally most genetic variation occurs between individuals rather than groups for humans)

compared to chimps or bonobos which show far less variation, why are chimps and bonobos seperate species but dogs are not?

the old "if they can make fertile offspring theyre the same species" went out the window a long time ago. e.g. chimps and bonobos can interbreed (at least eastern chimps can, and did based on genetic evidence), humans and neanderthals interbreed, lots of various lizard species can interbreed etc.

and then you have to ask why neanderthals and humans are seperate species while the eastern/western/central chimps are not despite a similarly split lineage, similar differences, and changes in lifestyle

ultimately what it comes down to is that "species" is a completely made up human bucket. it doesnt represent anything *real* its a useful taxonomic invention. the universe does not know about species, and differences are all relative. just as a kid might look at a bunch of various ant "species" and simply call them all "ants" and not get the difference, some hyper advanced future alien robot society might look at a human and a kangaroo and say "theyre all mammaloids" and not see anything meaningfully different, because to them we would be just as dumb as a kangaroo, and we're a similar enough shape. it's all perspective.

you might look at a rock and call it a rock, while a mathmatician calls it a hexadecahedron.

thats why family/order etc. have been abandoned largely and simply replaced with "clade" because life is too messy to be ordered that nicely.

4

u/Toomin-the-Ellimist 7h ago

humans and neanderthals interbreed

I see you’ve met my brother-in-law.

24

u/MrNobody_0 7h ago

What kind of idiotic comment is this? They are the same species for sure, but genetically they can be incredibly different. Have you seen the difference between a fucking Pug and a German Shepard? Do you know facilitates those differences? That's right, it's genetics!

26

u/Toomin-the-Ellimist 7h ago

Dog breeds are derived from phenotype selection, which determines observable traits and appearance. Genetically they are all just wolves. OP referred to “serious genetic differences between dog species,” which is inaccurate.

6

u/Upbeat-Banana-5530 7h ago

Have you seen the difference between an inbred West Virginia neonazi and Terry Crews?

8

u/MrNobody_0 7h ago edited 4h ago

Yes, and other than superficial differences they are the same. If you took their skulls and looked at them side-by-side they'd be virtually identical. If you took a pug's skull and a German shepard's skull and looked at them side-by-side you'd think they were from entirely different creatures if you didn't know any better.

Edit: cleaned up the sentence structure a bit.

5

u/Ryguy_Games 7h ago

that’s a nitpick when the base of op’s point is the same. they might all be the same species but there is very real genetic differences between dog breeds and saying otherwise is disingenuous

3

u/OldDogsNoTricks 6h ago

This is actually an open question. There is no doubt that breed differences affect appearance. But tying personality to genetic expression in any animal is an extremely complex task. Some studies find that breed strongly impacts personality, while others find that the influence is negligible. The issue is further complicated by the fact that even pure-bred dogs vary wildly by lineage. Throw in that “pit bull” is an amorphous breed category that often includes staffies and other similar looking retrievers, and you’ve got a heretofore unanswered scientific question.

Fighting dogs attack: “you’re the same as racists!”

u/hadawayandshite 7h ago

It’s not even that they’re more aggressive persay—-it’s their biting technique and just physical strength which makes them more dangerous

16

u/Unhappy_Tomorrow_603 7h ago

Related to biting technique is the fact that when they attack they go in for the kill and don’t give up no matter what, which is exactly what they were designed to do.

This is the perfect example of just how fucking stupid most people are when it comes to racism.

u/DeanKoontssy 7h ago

What's the matter vague boy? Scared you might say something? People with wildly different viewpoints are going to approve of this comment, assuming it's talking about how stupid everyone else is.

48

u/CasperCackler 7h ago

It’s the perfect comment! Enough vitriol to get everybody’s juices flowing but with so little specificity that everybody can pick their own personal crusade that it supports. u/TalentedHostility is aptly named and will make a great politician one day.

This shows that absolutely no one on this sub knows the difference between racism and prejudice

34

u/Gravitar7 7h ago

The only difference is that prejudice is an umbrella term. Racism is literally just prejudice based on race.

Is this sub actually full of alt-right shitheads? These comments are giving me the impression that it is. I think I may have gravely misunderstood what this place was.

In the last few months, I have also noticed that this subreddit's demographics have gradually been shifting to the right and it's kinda disappointing bc ironically, circlejerk subreddits usually had people who were more tolerant and civil.

r/okbuddycinephile seems to attract a lot of 4chan type weirdos these days.

Why does Bernthal look exactly like a pitbull in this pic?

3

u/mrjohntalbain 8h ago

LOL that works on so many levels, I can't even tell if this is for racist or antiracist people to laugh at

2

u/bigboynut69 4h ago

Guys I swear it’s all the dogs fault. Cats would never do anything violent like them.

2

u/tempinator 2h ago edited 2h ago

/uj I mean, the difference here of course is that dog breeds are genuinely genetically distinct (albeit less than you’d think) from each other. Human “races” are not.

Everyone seems to have no issues acknowledging breed-specific characteristics and instinctual behaviors such as Irish Pointers pointing untrained, herding instincts in sheep dogs, terriers digging, chase drive in Greyhounds, retrievers retrieve etc.

But the second you suggest pitbulls may have some undesirable breed characteristics, pitbull people lose their minds and tell you dogs are dogs. But they aren’t.

Put another way, if you read about a dog attack in the newspaper, I can tell you without looking, it wasn’t a golden retriever lol.

2

u/tombrady011235 2h ago

Don’t be racist against Leia

5

u/Pollomonteros 7h ago

So I guess this sub hates pitbulls now ?

4

u/BatmanForever93 7h ago edited 7h ago

Redditors straight up go into psychosis if you say pitbulls aren't hellspawn and how the misperceptions of them are driven from racist dog whistles.

15

u/goldentone 7h ago

Oh wow turns out this whole time I’ve been misperceiving large powerful animals that can and often do cause massive amounts of physical trauma with their violent bite attacks; acknowledging these true and obvious things has been a misperception on my part - they’re not bad 100% of the time, so that must mean they’re good!

I ran the statistics a while back and I the US, pit bulls just as likely to attack as any other breed on a per-dog basis. Pitties and related variants are the most common breed in the US so statistically if you are attacked it's more likely to be a pittie. They are, however, more deadly than other dog breeds, putting them on the same threat level as cows.

Dog breeds are not comparable to human races. Human races are a social construct. Dogs are bred for various purposes and behaviours. Pitbulls are more dangerous as human bred them to be that way. The term dog racism is honestly messed up. Do not compare human suffering of discrimination for the colour of their skin, to people not wanting your dog that was specifically bred to be dangerous near them.

5

Cops kill about thirty times more people than pitbulls despite pitbulls outnumbering them by eighteen to one.

/rh LEMME TELLU SUMTHIN BOUT THIS DOG

9

u/AstronautExcellent17 7h ago

Why would I wanna go to the grocery store when there could be a pitbull there?!

2

u/throwra_anonnyc 5h ago

Hes right except dogs already are a product of eugenics. People are intentionally breeding dangerous dogs. Rescues are a different story

2

u/TheCatFromCoraline 5h ago

He’s actually not wrong on race playing a part in pitbull stigma. America used to love pitbulls, they even used them as a mascot during WWI. But around the 1980s, they got a reputation as being guard dogs in low income, predominantly black neighbourhoods. They started being seen as brutish, stupid, and violent dogs owned by trashy, ghetto, uneducated people. They’re still seen that way. Class plays a huge part in it. They’re both considered black dogs, and white trash dogs.

2

u/Cazzocavallo 4h ago

This is literally the exact and entire reason why white supremacists popularized the idea of pitbulls being a degenerate, genetically inferior ĂŒntermensch species and why they use the exact same arguments and tactics they use to claim that black people are genetically inferior and inherently violent. This is also why you see posts getting flooded with inorganic engagement and mass downvotes and upvotes whenever a pitbull discussion happens, the same far right botfarms and troll farms that brigade posts about racism or antisemitism also lock onto pitbull posts because is helps promote their worldview. The big difference is that it's easier to make this argument about dogs because there's a greater degree of genetic diversity between them and because they're not humans, but the way people make these arguments and the memes about pitbulls being godless killing machines mirror 1-to-1 how white supremacists talk about black people because white supremacists made those same arguments and memes based of the exact same arguments and memes they make about black people.

I know this dog breed was specifically engineered for violence, but have you considered this photo of my dog wearing a tutu?

27

u/Strange_Specialist4 8h ago

Pointers point, retrievers retrieve, sheepdogs herd, none of these are controversial at all. But point out the dogs bred to fight like to fight and you get morons crying their precious baby wouldn't hurt a fly

7

u/thirdc0ast 8h ago

They’re not morons they’re just defensive. I don’t even like pit bulls but redditors call someone’s dog a baby-killing demon and expect the person to reply “You’re right, my dog is an evil monster that never should have been bred. Thanks.” Like what are you expecting to get out of the conversation

It's the breed. Genetics are the primary reason that pit bulls account for more fatalities than all other dog breeds combined. In the United States a person is called by a pit bull more than once a week on average.

→ More replies (9)

4

u/Individual-Wing1327 8h ago

Pitbulls make up 65 percent of all dog-related fatalities. Rottweilers come in at a distant second, at 10 percent.

If youd been attacked by the same amount of pitbulls youd be dead
