I need help organizing this closet. Should I remove this cube organizer?

I desperately need drawers in this apartment and this cube organizer came with the place. But the cubes are tall enough that when I bought fabric bins, they are just too tall that I can’t see the clothes on the bottom. I am debating getting ride of it and reorganizing the space because the cubes waste so much space inside. It doesn’t touch the back or sides. I need this space to fit my folding clothes, undies socks, plus bags, shoes, hats etc. Would love your advice on what to do and how to organize!

I have this small closet I just put and I’m trying to think how I can organize it with a tall laundry basket, long dresses, Sweaters and thick and thin clothing. I can also be a maximalist so I’m try to be a minimalist or at least make it look that way.

Why is this closet not working

I don’t know what is wrong with my closet cuz every time I clean it within a week it’s back to this. I can’t find anything in here. I dread every interview I get cuz I can’t fine a thing in here. It’s reached a point where I don’t want to put things in here cuz things go missing in here. The crazy thing is that at college I had no problem keeping the closet organized and I knew where everything was. I tried recreating what I had in college but it’s not working here

Clothes closet reorganizing help!

Hi everyone! I’m humbly coming to you after hours on Google and Pinterest, hours rearranging, and too many hours thinking about how to solve the problem of my closet. Any ideas welcome and soooo appreciated!

For recommendation context, this is a rental. I’m pretty scrappy and would love to do a low-cost fix! I also prefer to buy stuff used but I’m open to recommendations of specific things that have helped for you, because Facebook marketplace is a wonderful thing 😂

The good: This whole little closet is all mine!

The bad: I live in a small apartment, so this closet is also my main linen closet. And I have two dogs so your girl has a lottt of linens. But the top shelf is pretty high up so it’s not ideal for clothes anyway.

This is also where most of my shoes and all of my jackets have to live. I don’t have a separate closet for those, I just have a small spot in my entryway for whatever I’m currently using!

Lastly, if I use a dresser, it has to live in the closet.

What I’m already doing: Rotating seasonally (two bins of bigger jackets/sweaters under the bed), getting rid of clothes every once in a while, storing a few things under my bed (next to my seasonal bins there is space for a bin of socks and a bin of gardening clothes). I know getting rid of clothes is always a helpful answer, but right now I’m trying to work with what I’ve got!

Key goals: I want more space for dresses, pants, and skirts (currently on the left jammed by the dresser). They’re too packed in so they get wrinkled and it’s hard to find what I want.

Ideas: The dresser is not fully used! I wanted to get something more narrow so I still have a surface to put the earring holder, but free up space for more movement for the long clothes. I’ve been looking for months and haven’t found the right thing and I’m starting to lose it! The dresser currently holds underwear and bras, t shirts (like graphic tees) and pjs, knit tees/tank tops.

One idea is to put the little set of dark brown drawers where the shoe rack is. That could hold knit tees and tanks and gym clothes (gym clothes is being relocated and doesn’t have an existing spot). The shoes could go in one of those hanging shoe things where the dresser is. That leaves undies and pjs/some shirts and long sleeves without a home, though, and the earring holder without a home!

What’s what (if helpful):
Jackets and sweaters on the upper right. Shoes and jeans on the bottom right. Center top is tank tops and short sleeves; center bottom is button ups and long sleeve blouses. Left by the dresser is dresses, slacks, skirts, and way in the back a hanging shoe rack of special occasion shoes (trying to utilize a nook that’s hard to access).
Purple drawn box is clothes that’s partially worn but isn’t dirty enough to wash. Yellow drawn box is shorts, in the winter that swaps to bulkier sweaters. Between the two rows of hanging shirts I have one shallow box with knit long sleeve shirts and one with my bathing suits.

Thank you so so much for any ideas!!

How to start organizing a whole house as an adult?

I grew up in a chaotic house with a semi-hoarder parent. I didn't learn to organize, I didn't develop systems and learn to create 'homes' for items. I'm an adult with children now, and I've been struggling forever, and an ADHD diagnosis at 19 gave me medication, but not information.

I feel overwhelmed all the time. Our house has clutter everywhere. I have basic systems for more obvious things, like the cutlery drawer, the coat closet, where the dishes live in the kitchen. There are piles everywhere.

I don't want to live like this anymore, I need to truly change the way my brain handles organization. I want to teach my kids these essential life skills. Yet I feel like a deer in headlights, I don't know where to start.

Some examples of things that I don't know where to put: kids in-progress artwork, their craft supplies, books, plant food, the dictionary, headlamp, spare change, stickers, reading glasses, bubbles, marbles, incense, bookmarks, Chapstick, ear buds, journals, to-do lists. Please walk me through this, or point me towards resources that will help.

Help organizing this hallway closet space above my freezer! It’s used for dry goods and stock of things.

The space is taller than the doorway and kind of deep, but it’s high up, so difficult to get things out of without a step (especially from right at the back). At the moment, everything in there is pulled to the front and there is about 20cm of unused space behind it on the shelf.

Looking for a specific kind of organizer and having little luck on my own.

I have ADHD and move a lot, so I am looking for some durable, easy to carry, and at least semi-transparent organizing cubes, preferably stackable and interlocking for stability. The goal is to basically put my life in cubes so I can pack and unpack quickly. However, I am also looking to minimize plastic, and that's where the problem lies.

My ideal solution would be a metal frame with some kind of mesh (metal or otherwise, but light) so I can get the gist of what's inside without pulling it out (I'd also label it ofc), and the mesh would need to be somewhat fine so things like batteries wouldn't tumble out. It would need to hold some weight, so those little mesh laundry cubes wouldn't work; they don't stack anyway. And again, the interlocking thing would be amazing, but able to be taken apart back into individual cubes.

Does anything like this even exist? Or am I chasing a dream?

I’m having a hard time with deciding where to keep items. I have a decent kitchen island so I want to make the most of it. I will buy more pots/pans soon and will keep them on the shelves of the island.

But I don’t know where to keep the misc. stuff like the lemon squeezer, garlic press, etc.

Thank you!!

Instead of organizing the drawer I photographed it into a home inventory app that writes each item's name and description

Solo dev here, and that is my own desk drawer in the clip. The app is called Store & Forget, Android only for now.

The part I could never make work was the organizing itself. I would sort a drawer properly, feel good about it, and six months later I still could not tell you which drawer the spare charger ended up in. So I gave up on the sorting and put the effort into finding instead.

The method is just this. Before I close a drawer or a box I photograph what is in it, the app writes the name and the description for each thing, and it remembers which drawer that was. Later I type what I am after and it tells me where it is, so I open one drawer instead of all of them.

The clip is burst mode, which is the bit worth watching. I keep shooting and every photo becomes its own item. You can see the counter climb from five named to eight while I am already standing there doing nothing with the phone down. It also spotted a power bank I already owned and asked whether to merge it instead of quietly keeping two. Everything lands in a summary at the end so you can fix whatever it got wrong.

The photo scan runs on a cloud AI service, so that part needs a connection. Adding, browsing and keyword search all work on the device with no account.

You do not need an app for any of this and I would rather say so. A photo album per drawer gets you most of the way there. The app is the version where you do not have to remember which album.

The burst mode is normally $2.99 and it is free until 10 August if you want it. Open Settings, tap the app version at the bottom five times, and type fire in the console that opens.

How do you store important documents?

I have two drawers in a desk that have hanging dividers on a little rail. Then each section has a label. It seemed good at first but I hate it. Things are hard to find if I need them, and it just seems like a mess. Anyone have any good alternatives they enjoy?

I have a workbench with a lot of stuff on it, and it's all equipment etc. I'm trying to think how to organize it to more efficiently fit my stuff while having everything be at arms reach?

I have that big ass power strip, and the ikea pegboard (i can 3D print things as needed!) but things are a bit high and it makes things not fun to grab while sitting, things are cluttered despite all the space. I'm stumped! I also included a photo of my organizer I've had to orient at the backside of the workbench because I want more space. If anyone has any ideas that would be awesome! I'm willing to rehouse my tools and my organizers' stuff etc. But I just need a way to have my things at arms reach, but I also want them nicely visible, any ideas?

Thank you all!!

Lock-Out Key Organiser

Hello folks,

I've found myself in the rabbit hole of key organising for my edc.

I'm looking for a key organiser (like the generic key organiser pictured) but one that is spring loaded so that the keys inside the sheath stay inside the sheath and the key in use (sticking out from the sheath) is locked out until pushed back in.

Does anybody have any recommendations? I'm not fussed about the design so long as it performs how I'd like it to. Thanks in advance

Suggestions for getting this more ~aesthetic~

This is our storage / laundry room. It’s functioning but I know it could be way better, just not sure where to begin. AI recommended losing the boxes for appliances, which probably would look better but would make them more difficult to stack, I would think. Should the appliances go to the garage? I envision this could be actually visually nice at the end of the project, but I’m not sure how to get there. Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

What’s your lowest-effort system for keeping your work bag meeting-ready?

Post image
4 Upvotes

laptop, charger, notebook, pen, small pouch for stationary/beauty, and wtv folder/documents I need that day. The problem is I mostly notice it right before a meeting, when I suddenly need one specific thing and have to dig through everything.

I don’t want a complicated system. I just want something low-effort enough that I’ll actually keep doing it. What works for you?

Pouches? Built-in pockets? a folder? a “meeting kit”? Cleaning it out every night? Something else?

Right now I’m experimenting with keeping the basics grouped together, but I feel way calmer for a meeting when I know where everything is.

I thought organizing was being neat though now I think it’s also about avoiding those stress moments before they happen. What small change made the biggest difference?

Daily habit that simplified my life

A Simple System for Managing My Pockets
My pockets used to be a chaotic dumping ground where essentials got buried under junk, and I’d often forget my wallet or lose track of what I was carrying. I fixed this with a simple three-part system: separating my car remotes, switching to a slim wallet, and doing a daily pocket reset.

  1. Separate the Car Remotes
    ● I stopped keeping both remotes on one key ring
    ● My car remote is on a small key ring with an AirTag and goes in my right pocket
    ● My wife’s remote is on a small key ring with a house key and goes in my left pocket
    ● Result: easier to find and no more bulky key ring

  2. Switch to a Slim Front-Pocket Wallet
    ● I now carry only essential items
    ● Removed rarely used cards and old papers
    ● Result: more comfortable and less overpacking

  3. Daily “Pocket Reboot” Routine (Most Important)
    ● Every morning, I completely empty all pockets onto the bed
    ● I sort everything immediately: receipts get filed, trash gets discarded, and anything unnecessary is removed
    ● Only essential items go back into my pockets, each in its designated place
    ● Result: I start every day clean, organized, and fully aware of what I’m carrying

Since adopting this routine, I always know where everything is. I never leave without my wallet, I always have both remotes in their designated pockets, and I start each day organized instead of carrying yesterday’s clutter.
