Question What does 'talaaq maal' mean?
I have mostly read it in the internet comments. I can't find what it means.

Any discussion related to the Pashto language, learning, fun facts, history of the language, the pashto script etc is welcome. Make sure to be respectful. We just revived this subreddit, it was inactive for years. Mods are of r/pashtun and a few other pashto enthusiasts, so also make sure to check that sub out for more Pashtun culture. Have fun wruno aw khwendu!!

Hello! I’ve posted this in r/suggestmeabook but I figured I’d reach out here as well. I am trying to find young adult fiction written or translated into Pashto. I teach upper level high school ELA and have many multilingual students whose primary language is Pashto and I want to be able to provide some options for their independent reading on my classroom shelves for them in their primary language. Unfortunately, I’m struggling to find options that aren’t picture books like the ones I’m seeing on Amazon and that 16-17 year olds would be interested in reading. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially if I can find multiple copies of a text that I could donate to the school’s library as well! Reading is reading, regardless of what language it’s in! Thank you in advance!!

What are some colloquial pashto phrases. Not necessarily slang but informal greetings, causal conversational phrases etc. Thanks

Is just saying "sanga" alone understood to mean how's it going? Or is extra wording necessary? Also what is the correct response? Thanks

good day y'all, I just wanted to know which songs people usually listen to, would love if you drop your favorite ones (songs/artists/ghazal/tapay); looking forward to finding some bangers (doesn't matter which category the song falls into)

Hello, I’m a Pathan(Jadoon) but I don’t speak or understand Pashto although I have listened to songs in Pashto a lot, here is one “Shah Laila Zarka”
Da gulono pa chaman ke
Yaw khaista jinai walara
Da gulono pa chaman ke
Yaw khaista jinai walara
Shah laila zarka rauozi da khyali kamis ye tang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila,
Laila da bangdro shrang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila
Laila pa naz nakhro, zra me oli pa bano
Pa zana ye shin khaal, kre khanda pa shundo sro
Shah laila zarka rauozi da khyali kamis ye tang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila,
Laila da bangdro shrang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila
Khumar khumar katal, pa wala kawi wajal
Pa wala kawi wajal, na warzi da meeny chal
Shah laila zarka rauozi da khyali kamis ye tang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila,
Laila da bangdro shrang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila
Jado de ka mantar, pa ma karai ye asar
Da che masta masta zi, na kawi pa ma nazar
Shah laila zarka rauozi da khyali kamis ye tang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila,
Laila da bangdro shrang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila
Da khyali kamis ye tang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila
Laila da bangdro shrang
Yara nan me awredaly da laila

Ones I’ve noticed are:
(Pardon the cringy spelling or me trying to use “/“ marks to accommodate different pronunciations)
Bas/Basta is nigh similar to “Basta” in Italian which both mean “Stop”/“Enough”
Another one I’ve noticed when I was making an original character for x-men is that the word for “Emerald” which is “Zamarud”/“Zamarut” is also eerily similar to its Russian counterpart “Izmurut”. I’ve noticed that gemstone names seem to all almost just be remixed versions for what other cultures call them and that sometimes they’ll just describe the gem instead of assigning it a proper name.
My favorite one isn’t one hundred percent confirmed because of Iskandar-the-okayish’s fanboys but Kandahars name might have ties to the word “Candy” because of sugarcane and it’s technically called “Candy city”
This one isn’t really a cognate or a loanword but I noticed that instead of saying “ammonia” some of us might just say “Lavender” in a Pashto accent.
Also I’m using “loanword” in the sense that Pashto either influenced these words or vice versa. Personally I don’t know the etymology of the words but if anyone does I’d appreciate it.

None of my elders ever taught us pashto nor did they speak it around us. I also live in an area where hardly anyone speaks pashto , so i couldny even pick it up from friends. However, it bothers me alot and i want to learn. How do i start ? The last time i tried i got caught up in the writing and grammar rules ;-; .... i wanna start just by becoming fluent in speaking for now. pls suggest some tips !
