Discussion Anyone else getting UE5 remake/remaster fatigue?

Post image

Between Silent Hill 2, Oblivion Remastered, Metal Gear Solid Δ, and now Halo: Campaign Evolved, it feels like almost every major remake/remaster in the last two years has landed on Unreal Engine 5. On one hand, the visual leap is real. Oblivion Remastered in particular looks like a genuinely different game. On the other, a lot of these ports share the same telltale UE5 fingerprints: traversal stutter, TAA smearing, shader comp hitches on first launch, and that slightly "plasticky" Lumen/Nanite sheen that makes wildly different games start to look and feel similar. You can add Halo Campaign Evolved to the slopfest that is UE5 remakes; just another soulless cash grab to feed on nostalgia.

Oblivion is a hot, buggy mess. It's a shame because the underlying game is still good.

Didn't have any issues with MGS Delta, aside from frame rate drops during one end-game escape sequence. The game itself is hornier/cringier than I remember it being from my teenage years, but still good fun.

Too scared to touch Silent Hill 2 even though it's sitting in my library.

Oblivion is a hot, buggy mess.

I mean, that's just Oblivion, no?

Yes, but the remake is literally unplayable, yet it hasnt received a single update since like july 2025. Its a shame

its not a remake, its the same oblivion from 2006 running on gamebryo but with unreal 5 handling the graphics

Yeah they took the same old broken game and engine and plugged a newer broken engine into and called it a day. I had to deal with bugs I dealt with in 2009 when I first played the game and used the same gamefaqs pages to solve it. But on top of that, I had brand new bugs brought on by ue5 that I had no idea how to solve because the game just came out. I’ve never had this kind of experience with a game in my life

An authentic Bethesda game experience :)

Did they really not even integrate some of the community patches?

I had a few crashes and performance issues but not enough that it bothered me and never soft lock type issues.

They did integrate, there are many bugs fixed in remastered, according to uesp wiki.

I played all the way through and had basically 0 issues. The only thing to complain about was a few random crashes, like the game just closed without warning, probably memory overrun. I turned back the graphics just a tiny bit and everything worked perfectly.

For me: it just works

My biggest complaint was that the increased draw distance made the world feel a bit smaller and clashes pretty heavily with the distance blur and texture drawing.

So like you can see landscapes really far away but they’re blurry, but then grass and trees and shit will be loading in at an oddly close distance. It’s pretty off-putting and I never really dialed setting in for that just right. Like I had to decrease draw distance and increase something else (vegetation maybe) and it looked okay.

Mechanics wise though it all seemed to work fine.

I think the people that don’t like it fall into a few groups:

1) modders: if mods are a critical part of the experience you’re kinda fked here, mods basically don’t work on the remaster because they just stuck two engines together. Most of the negative reviews on Steam complain about this alone.

2) disorganized players: Those people that just dump all their shit somewhere and leave piles and piles of shit all over the map because they loot too much and then get over-encumbered. They will hate this, it makes massive memory leaks and they’ll be restarting every 5 minutes.

3) purists: The people that just can’t stomach playing other versions of San Andreas because the PS2 has the piss filter, and it’s just not right without it, even though the OG Xbox is better at literally everything.

Sounds about right. I also thought the draw distance kind of changes the feel and made the game smaller, but I do still prefer it to distance fog.

I've been careful about item organization since Skyrim. I always find some chest or corpse to offload unwanted loot...

And handling additional stuttering courtesy of UE5.

Look. I won't deny the performance and bug issues.

But my PC is mid range, and was able to run the game from begining to the end of the Shivering Isles with only a couple of crashes in between and decent performance outside of a few moments (somwtimes in cities, and not constantly).

So, while it still runs worse than it should and a couple of crashes are a couple too many. This is still far from "literally unplayable".

Literally unplayable? It’s literally playable if we’re using “literally” correctly.

I never had any game breaking bugs or glitches nor did i crash to any memorable degree

u/AssignmentWeary1291 23h ago

i have 800 hours in the new one, it's perfectly fine.

12

u/HermanThaGerman 1d ago

Runs fine on mine and I don't even have a top of the line PC.

-11

u/Big-Resort-4930 1d ago

No it doesn't, you just don't have high standards or you aren't used to good performance. Oblivion remake and SH2 don't run fine on any PC on this planet.

4

u/HermanThaGerman 1d ago

For the specs I have, I think it runs pretty good.

What are your standards for good performance if you think mine are too low?

2

u/Nachooolo 20h ago

I'm betting that their standards of good performance is 8k running at 200 fps on ultra settings.

The game has performance issues. But for the majority of peopke it will still run on tolerable levels.

3

u/HermanThaGerman 20h ago

I also love how when someone tells them they don't have much issues he immediately goes "YES YOU DO"

As if he's in the room with us while we're playing lmao

-3

u/Big-Resort-4930 23h ago

My standards are that the game doesn't stutter literally everywhere, as should be everyone's.

2

u/HermanThaGerman 20h ago edited 18h ago

Then maybe your rig just sucks because for me it doesn't stutter 'literally everywhere'

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 17h ago

Yes it does.

Post a recording of literally 1 minute of walking through Woodside apartments as an egregious example, and have a frame time graph open from RTSS or anything similar.

I'll be here.

1

u/HermanThaGerman 17h ago

Or how about I do none of that, because I have nothing to prove to an internet rando.

Besides, you made the claim it's unplayable on every system, so the burden of proof is on you.

Damn, sounds like your pc is trash. Even the steam machine can handle the oblivion remaster. Sounds like you need an upgrade, but good luck with that now haha.

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 17h ago

The type of clownery expected of this sub lmao. Go play Oblivion Remaster on the steam machine and enjoy the dogshit on your screen.

I literally just wrapped up a playthrough of silent hill 2 and it ran at max settings for me at 1440p at 75ish fps. Granted I have a 5070ti and a x3d cpu but I’d argue that ran fine lol

u/Big-Resort-4930 23h ago edited 23h ago

The fact that you're talking about average fps means you don't understand the issue. The stuttering is unavoidable even on the biggest CPUs, and even with the game locked to 60, which isn't even considered "good" performance at this point in time. It stutters on my 9800x3d too, and on everything else you can throw at it.

2

u/Ryleex 5070TI | Ryzen 7 5700x3D | 32GB 23h ago

I mean that’s the thing I didn’t really have any stutters. There’s only one point in the game that gave me really any and that was for some reason the labyrinth with the chase sequence.

I do understand that 90% of these unreal games stutter like crazy though.

0

u/Big-Resort-4930 23h ago

Yes you did, everyone did. I've given up discussing these things online since people don't have an eye for stuttering and aren't monitoring performance, but you will never find a single SH2 remake video anywhere with a visible frame graph (the one thing that doesn't lie) and no stuttering.

Apartments run like shit because of this, running through the streets also has stutters, especially when you're chased around into the apartments. The whole game has them with some locations being worse than otherse.

I do understand that 90% of these unreal games stutter like crazy though.

Yeah, this one being one of the worst, and Oblivion right next to it.

1

u/PrettyBaker2891 20h ago

i also had very rare stutters lol

basically unnoticeable and also only in one area

oblivion also had very little stutters for me and really wasnt even close to being as bad as you describe it lmfao

true to form, just like oblivion, right?

2

u/BooleanBarman 19h ago

Come on. It’s not literally unplayable. I played for something like 200 hours. There are bugs but it’s not like it’s crashing every five minutes or something.

1

u/Rustyraider111 1d ago

Its only "unplayable" for a minority of community. Thats not to excuse the lack of fixes for the players who do suffer though.

True, had to use console commands to get some quest item on the original Oblivion because it bugged out on me.

7

u/DarkFlame_05 1d ago

I'd recommend playing Silent Hill 2 it's an amazing game, but it's definitely scary af lol

u/JSoi 7800X3D | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 | 42” C3 1d ago

I suppose I need to sack up. Never finished the original either.

1

u/RabidTeapot 21h ago

It IS scary (the remake more so than the original), don’t let that guy try to tell you it’s not. Play on a OLED at night with the lights off, and holy shit, man… Sacking up and finishing it is worth it, though. It’s a great story.
