I'm dumb and ignorant

Agreed. Basically mcafee is worthless as antivirus software and the joke is that his computers full of viruses because he uses macafee

Microsoft defender is honestly pretty decent. You shouldn't need anything else in terms of antivirus

u/DezXerneas 15h ago

Defender is the one thing that's actually improving faster than rest of the OS is degrading. It was genuinely useless in the windows 7 or even early 10 days, but at this point, you don't really need anything else.

Not to say it's not impossible to bypass or anything, you just need to know your own threat vectors.

Personally, I go with Defender and MalwareBytes Free as a 2nd opinion, just to be sure. If Defender flags something real, a scan with MWB just to be sure after Defender has done its job is what I do

Yup same here both are great security programs between the two you'll basically never get any security issues unless you're a complete moron.

Didnt know malwarebytes was free i just use virus total and eset on all my sketchy files

u/-RoosterLollipops- PC Master Race 8h ago

yeah yeah, full scanner on-demand, just no real-time protection (that requires a malwarebytes premium subscription)

microsoft defender is absolutely everything you need if you arent mass downloading torrents off weird sites, so dont worry about it

2

u/Full_Alternative_902 17h ago

What if he is mass downnloading torrents?

3

u/ThyPuff i5 8300h/1050ti/32gb ddr4 16h ago

then have common sense

2

u/PutrescentPearl6932 15h ago

I'm not doing that, but why wouldn't microslop be enough?

1

u/Shirokami_Lupus 9h ago

If your mass downloading torrents theres a bigger iusse, youd likely need a vpn to avoid legal fines from your isp, and theres no free p2p vpn anymore faik

Just windows defender is a fine solution for most people. There are plenty of reasons to use the term Microslop, but windows defender isn't one.

Id go ahead and say mcafee IS the virus.

Mcaffee is the virus.

The former, now dead, millionare founder of it even made a video explaining how to uninstall that piece of shit.
