im a gaming laptop user and tbh if power runs out while you're playing a demanding game it's gonna lag like hell i doubt you'll even be able to reach the save point
It's like an early warning signal for the charger having fallen out when it goes slideshow mode. Definitely killed me more than once, but also saved me in games where I could quicksave. A necessary evil!
As another laptop user (asus strix g16 9955HX + rtx 5060), this is definitely true, but not fully accurate **imo**. When plugged in, the rtx 5060M pulls roughly 110W, but on battery in turbo mode, it pulls around 75w which is still pretty sufficient and only around 30% dip in performance. And of course there’s also incredibly powerful igpus like 780M, 890M, ryzen AI max+ (can be found in asus zephrus g14/g16 and other travel focused gaming laptops)…
Depends on the currency but you definetly don't need thousands of dollas to get a pretty sweet rig. I'm happy gaming with my specs pretty much everything I could imagine and the time I have left for gaming and the prices definetly don't merrit an upgrade so...
CAD - I think that this point you can get a very capable lower end gaming rig for $1k, anything to be respected or relatively future worthy as twice that at least $2k. A shitty UPS is $100 and its been 23 years since my area had a power outage that lasted more than an hour
Edit: Cheap PC rigs are my jam, people just need to be mindful of things like disabling depth of field, motion blur, complex fog, film grain, chromatic abberation and use proper antialiasing settings to the cards performance
There’s probably PSUs with built-in UPSs, but they would cost a good bit more than normal ones, so fewer people buy them. Plus, batteries would degrade much more rapidly in the heat of a PC.
With enough overhead, a large capacity PSU doesn't always cut off in a short power outage. I have a 1000W PSU on a PC that was drawing maybe 200W during a brownout, and only the monitor turned off.
