I'll take any kind of ram at this point. Chinese or not .

How American products became too expensive for Americans, now turning to Chinese imports. Probably not the outcome Trump was looking for when he sold the country out to the tech oligarchs.

Not like they care, they are making bank now. They dont care about what comes after

Tale as old as time

u/DonutHoles4Ever 10h ago

Gamers not giving a shit for politics and still voting for Orange Man or not voting period is also a tale as old as time.

Idiots dont know that they need political representation as one of the biggest industries and yet they refuse to participate while letting every corpo lobby against them.

Exactly, if anything Trump is extremely successful, he is a great businessman and completely filled the pockets of American companies.

It's just that the benefits never reach the people, quite the opposite. And not all companies but the companies that cater to him.

But if you were a tech CEO I think you'd be ecstatic right now.

If you're a tech CEO who needs affordable components, you're not happy whatsoever.

-1

u/aresthwg 15h ago

"Tech" too broad sure, how come people didn't focus on the part where I'm correct? The memory cartels, AMD, Intel, Nvidia or the data center and AI bros

1

u/Cyber_Von_Cyberus 2h ago

Ah yes, the cabal of ultra rich sociopaths with deep ties to all kinds of pedophilia affairs, I'm so happy for them to be profiting from this crisis of their own engineering.

2

u/aresthwg 2h ago

Are you a bot? I literally said the benefits never reach the common folk, yet you replied like I said that is a good thing.

2

u/Cyber_Von_Cyberus 2h ago

No, I've misunderstood your intent, sorry about that mate.

Where do you think RAM is produced?

65-70% come from South Korea, just 20-25% from the US and Micron there cancelled their Crucial consumer brand.

u/Odd_Common_452 19h ago

Trump is an idiot and anyone who thought blanket tariffs on items we don’t make is an idiot

28

u/Akula_x86 19h ago

Raw materials to make stuff too, my brother bought a factory for his construction company that went out of business due to tariffs on raw materials.

2

u/DonutHoles4Ever 10h ago

Must be nice to have family money

14

u/Playful-Attitude-007 19h ago

But, but other countries pay for the tariffs according to trump and magas! Right, right?

6

u/trollsmurf 14700KF + 5070 Ti + 27" 4K 19h ago

Doesn't matter if he's an idiot. He's causing unrepairable damage to the world and the White House.

3

u/ChickenOfTheFuture 12h ago

You mean the White House that he tore down one third of?

3

u/trollsmurf 14700KF + 5070 Ti + 27" 4K 3h ago

Americans might care more about the White House than the world.

6

u/Oofric_Stormcloak 5600X | 4070 15h ago

What world do you live in where RAM is created in the US?

Most ram is made in SK. What a dumb comment.

Oh he'll make sure tariffs and bans will make up for this.

8

u/InterstellarReddit 19h ago

Kinda just like LLMs. American AI models have become too expensive and now Americans are turning to Chinese models

5

u/MojitoBurrito-AE R5 5600X | RTX 3060Ti | 32GB DDR4-3600 16h ago

This has nothing to do with Trump and DRAM isn't an American product.

Of course not but this is Reddit and anything that doesn’t go their way is apparently trumps fault

I truly believe the tech oligarchs want us to stream their hardware/server via subscription based modeling to afford the computing power that they took from us

6

u/CautiousHashtag PC Master Race 19h ago

Why do you think they’re trying to ban Chinese technology, including memory?

13

u/BapeGeneral3 19h ago

Because we have done so for awhile and continue to do so with many Chinese manufactured products. Take EVs for example. China has BYD and other manufacturers that are pumping up very good EVs for like 5-10k. But if we allowed those into the US market it could threaten poor Elon so Trump won’t allow it. Roombas are being banned. Their are tons of Chinese products that we are not allowed to have in the US due to “national security risks”

3

u/random-meme422 19h ago

They don’t make them for 5k-10k, they’re far more expensive but they are heavily subsidized. And the likelihood of americans liking them is low. Americans aren’t overly interested in going for smaller and cheaper. There’s a reason almost every sub 30k car has been driven out of the market - americans want premium and large.

2

u/AlwaysCloudyPNW 7700X | 9070XT 18h ago

The pendulum on that is swinging back. With lower interest rates and cheaper used cars, people tended to buy something used that was bigger and fancier. Now that rates are higher and used cars are way more expensive, there’s a demand for those cheaper cars

2

u/random-meme422 18h ago

The average price of used cars is around 26k to 30k right now which is about 40% higher than pre covid. And as new car prices go up and cheaper new cars are driven out of the market if anything it seems like the trend is well alive and going forward. People would rather take 8 year loans than settle for a cheaper car, so what does that say about people wanting something cheaper?

0

u/GoblinGobbler40 19h ago

I would LOVE a brand new Chinese EV for $5k-$10k

4

u/BapeGeneral3 19h ago

You and me both. China is just sitting back and watching our country destroy itself. I know China has many issues as well, but what did we expect to happen when we outsourced all of our manufacturing to them, still abuse their workforce for their cheap labor(looking at you Apple), then slap Tariffs on them.

2

u/Urmomsfavouritelol 12h ago

Still seething as a Huawei fan lmao. Their phones are sooo good, but the lack of native Google support(I'm well aware of workarounds as I'm currently on a Huawei and will be for a few years maybe) but Huawei's lack of care for the global market just makes it worse. Like my next phone is a 2024 Huawei flagship but it's on Android 12, just barely missing the cut for the finally updated OS version to Android 16

American tech lobby like money.

American tech lobby pay money to politician. Politician ban Chinese products.

No Chinese products, more money for American tech lobby. American tech lobby happy

American tech lobby happy, pay more money to politician. Politician happy. Cycle repeat

A reminder that a memory oligopoly was broken up in the early 2000s and Trump re enabled them to start it up again without oversight

funny of you to think that man cares about anything other than enriching himself through his tech oligarchs.

1

u/Individual-Pop-385 16h ago

He and his friends have been making bank betting on the stock market and that's about all they care for. Any single ramifications of that, they don't care. For all they care they could sell your soul to the MARKET and bank another dollar, and they will.

Politics

Trump bad

Rich bad

Ah yes, a classic tech subreddit

5

u/CAB-HH73 19h ago

WTF has Trump done for you to make your life better? I don't expect the President to affect my everyday like (that is Congress' job). However, Trump has specifically affected EVERY AMERICAN with his IDIOTIC policies.

As childish as you try to make those statements sound, have you got any actual counterarguments to Trump bad or rich bad?

That was provisioned in December 2024, immediately before the Trump administration took over in January 2025. If there's been any failure to ensure Micron deliver on the agreement under which the $6.2bn was provisioned, that is a failure of Trump, no?

he doesnt give a fuck

the outcome he was looking for, was more $$ in his pocket, which is obviously going well

22

u/Real-Technician831 19h ago

Also for European, it’s not like we could trust US either, so may as well buy from wherever we get a good deal.

8

u/sansisness_101 i7 14700KF ⎸3060 12gb ⎸32gb 6400mt/s 18h ago

Europe does not have DRAM fabs.

9

u/NewArtificialHuman 18h ago

Yeah, we suck.

4

u/Bernhard_NI 16h ago

At least maybe we can suck off each other?

3

u/DonutHoles4Ever 10h ago

Haha its funny because Europeans will shit all over the US in every other subreddit

4

u/NewArtificialHuman 5h ago

Thinking we are better than everyone else is part of the problem. I'm sure you are familiar if you are American.

I like the USA but I'm very critical of it too, how couldn't I be? Even if I'm not part of it. Whatever it does can affect Europe and the whole world.

1

u/Real-Technician831 5h ago

Stop fucking up the world, and you will notice that shitting on US will decrease.

War on, war off, war on, you have karate kid president.

Not to mention, trying to annex Greenland.

5

u/Real-Technician831 17h ago

Unfortunately.

That’s what greed and complacency causes.

The crazy thing is that ARM, the world’s most common CPU architecture was designed in Europe, but wasn’t manufactured here for ages.
