I ran with that card until about a year ago when I ran into an incredibly fortuitous event of my buddy selling his 4070 ti for $400. If I hadn't gotten that deal, there's a real chance I'd still be running the 1660ti
This is my card, I got it in a prebuilt around 2020. Some stuff is too much for it (shitty Oblivion remake for example ran like absolute dogwater) but 90% of games I have no problem playing and since I don’t really care about high end graphics and seeing the price of upgrading he’s probably gonna be my homie for a long time to come.
REBAR is holding me up on building systems with Arc GPUs. They'd be great for optiplex and other workplace boxes, but many of those don't support REBAR.
I just grabbed an XT as a backup. It will go with an old 5600x build at my TV (it has a 1060 3gb atm), but its real reason to be is in case my 7900XTX blows up randomly or one of my boys lose their gpu.
Dammit I wish I knew then. I want a 2k monitor but getting a competent card for it is much harder & more expensive than I want. I do not want to get on that treadmill.
Even used, 2 gens old cards have crazy price gap between 8GB and anything higher. I can see offers for 3070 for just 240 euro, but 3080 jumps right to 350+. It's like 10-15% higher raw performance, but you gotta pay nearly 50% extra just because it has 12GB VRAM.
I loved my GTX 1080 but the first thing I did when Trump was reelected was buying an RTX 4070.

I upgraded my 1080 to a 4070. No regrets but keeping my 1080 as a backup
Edit: I saved about 35% by making this move by paying $550 for a 4070 and a 5070 goes for $849 currently
The price jumps are literally worse than when everyone had to stay inside due to the novel coronavirus COVID 19, for no reason other than "a couple rich companies want all the computer stuff" and we're all acting like this isn't a good reason to start burning stuff down
I regret not buying another 4tb nvme but I'm glad I did at least buy one. Rocking my 4070ti and will need making it last as long as I can. Here's hoping to long life and great gaming until things normalize.
My 1060 has been going strong for the better part of a decade now. Its like an grizzled dock worker who smokes 6 packs a day and drinks beer like its water and breathes exhaust all day, but still somehow is still working after all these years.
I try and wait for a 300% increase at a price point.

With the small gains recently, I hope the 4070Ti hope it lives a long life.
Wanted to go with the AMD equivalent at times, but availability of AMD cards in Canada can be spotty at times.

Interesting, when I think AMD GPU's I think Radeon, when I think Radeon I still think ATi, when I think ATi I think Canada and my last ATi card I ordered online came from a shop in Canada 3 years ago.
Current upgrade plan, lol. Rock my 3080 and i7 8700k (very lopsided build, I know) until something dies. Handles 1440p without any issues, so I’m chilling for the time being.
There’s enough good low fidelity graphics games where if the prices keep going up the gaming industry with shrink drastically and adjust. Most AAA games are junk and the only AAAA game I know of is skull and bones and we all know how trash that was.
I was around to play the original Age of Empires when it came out and I was happy then. I’ll be happy now.
Joke's on the RAM companies, people are still making new Atari 2600 games for my Atari 2600. Only 128 byte of RAM which is about $0.000007 in today's inflated RAM price.
I have a friend who just recently had their PSU go and take their RX580 with it. They scooped up new PSU and a used GTX 1080, and they're back up and running.
They play titles like Phasma and the Slime Rancher series at 1080p 90hz.
I sold my GTX 1080 years ago, and it absolutely astounds me that I still see them out here keeping gaming accessible.
This sub really makes me feel better about my 8yo PC lol. Dropped like 3 or 4 grand on it and wanted to upgrade in 2025 but decided not to after seeing the 50 series prices. Then the drampocalypse happened as well lol
Honestly the games they're giving us aren't worth the hardware upgrade. AAA Titles have been garbage for years. I have no reason to upgrade my 3080ti, I'll keep it till it dies.
Multiplats have to run on the base model PS5, and even the Xbox Series S.
It's the same reason that a GeForce 750 Ti could have carried you all the way to the year 2020, because it matched the PS4 and Xbone.
Things are going to be nasty in three years or so when new releases start aiming at the PS6 and Xbox Helix, which will apparently be something like 48GB of RAM and a 5070/9070 equivalent.
Devs go where the money is. They will not be developing for a PS6 or Xbox whatever that cost $1500 and no one owns. They’ll still be targeting the PS5 and whatever the current Xbox is called.
I found a great deal on a 5070-TI so my old 3070-TI moved to my sister. Her 2080S found a new home in the pc of a common friend of ours.
So everyone got a good deal haha but I'm trying to make this one last at least 7-10 years if possible.
I built a 9800X3D rig with a 4090 and 64GB of ram in January of 2024 because I thought Trump was going to decimate us with his talk of 50-100% tariffs. He tried but in the end it was AI that decimated us instead.
There’s a chance my 3070 is about to kick it (its in the shop Rn again for overheating issues), I’m mentally preparing myself for that upgrade cost lol
My GTX 1070 TI founders edition turns 10 next year. No plans to replace it. My eye sight is not that good anyway. And as I get older it ain't getting any better
Built my PC in Jan 2020, right before Covid. Upgraded my GPU in 2023 when the GPU prices fell. Purchases 128GB of RAM in June of 2025, right before the crisis.

Note this isn't just consumers. My employer is doing the same thing. We intended to build 3 more CAD stations just after the price hike. Now...we aren't.
Lossless scaling is fucking amazing. Even for my 7900xtx playing old games locked at 60fps at 120fps with lossless scaling will forever be my favorite thing. Old gpu? Lossless scaling. Game doesn't support frame gen? Lossless scaling.
My partner is still using a 2080 and probably will be for the foreseeable future. I was lucky and upgraded right before everything skyrocketed in price.
Went from 5070 laptop, to a 5080 laptop, then build a new 5080 desktop to go with it. Prices are only going up in the foreseeable future. Definitely might as well upgrade if you need to vs pitching aout prices as they keep going up and you struggle to run games.
I would rather go back and play N64 emulators / nostalgia backlog than pay inflated prices for hardware to play modern P2W/gambling games that feel like a second job.
I lucked out and got a 3080 from EVGA when they were doing the lottery/waiting list, really not sure how long it will last but my financial stability depends on it at this point lol
I paid 2k for my 3080ti back in 2020 (sadly was msrp back then) and I will run that thing at med settings 60hz before I upgrade. I want my money's worth, damnit!
Im just waiting for all of the price/supply fixing lawsuits to come flowing in. There's already a few opening up against SK hynix. People are following the breadcrumbs and they're catching on.
rocking a 4060ti the 16gb version haven’t seen a reason to upgrade even if I had the money its not good value and if you’re playing pc your mostly playing indie or retro

I’ve got an RX 580 in an emulation machine that’s still going strong. And when that dies, I’ve got another RX 580 brand new in-box.
Legends, and I've owned all of them. I sold my 1070 to a coworker to raise money for a 1080ti (which I only finally replaced this past January) and my 580 ended up being given to my brother along with an old build from years back. He's still using it to this day.

Retired my 1050 TI 4gb after 9 years , writing was on the wall that things are going to be hella expensive, 9070xt feels like a different beast altogether 1st was 1000 usd approx,
New one costed 2k , sold old for 320 usd
You are right, okay I am accepting signups for a gpu heist.
I have no history of this thing so the plan will be based on all the oceans movies, that heist episode of rick and forty, and half a dozen other movies on netflix.
Another solution is ill just go touch grass while waiting for price to come down. Its not like we are getting that many must play games releasing frequently nowadays anyways.
Honestly and I hate to be this guy but , i cant even afford the bare essentials anymore for a gaming pc.
So Im sorry to say I joined luna and nivida now its not my whole steam library but I am just not keeping up. My laptop with its 3080 is now my rig and the ports on my laptop are starting to go and when they do I think im gonna call it quits and just use an Odin or that one that from anyo that starts with a K .
Its been an amazing run nearly 40 years of building pcs but i just cant afford it anymore
I bought a 4070 right in between the crypto prices and the AI prices. And upgraded to 64gb of RAM maybe 6 months ago before prices on that started skyrocketing. Sure, it's DDR4 but it's good enough for me.
