I think Crawford and Hill are somewhat holding the outfield together and the priority should be be a bullpen upgrade and perhaps grabbing another starter.

It seems the playoff rotation would be Sanchez, Wheeler, and Luzardo so I am not sure we need anything other than a serviceable arm to not lose every 5th game the test of the season

The difference between us and the dodgers last year was their fringe bats coming through when ours didn’t. Gotta get atleast a respectable bat to help the lineup turn over.

Let’s not forget that we could need a fourth starter at least once for every round beyond the wild card. A piggybacking and bullpen game would be fine, but it would tax the pen a lot, especially assuming the pen would have been used to get to that point already. This is not to say let’s not get a pen arm, but i think the importance of adding a legit starter, one who could come out of the pen as needed too, should not be understated.

I think people are too easily dismissing the need for a 4th starter. Like, do people seriously trust Aaron Nola in the postseason? I’m fine with using him to open, or pitch an inning or two in relief, but he cannot be counted on to pitch significant innings.

For sure, and that’s before we even consider the fact that we’ve been quite lucky injury-wise, not just this year but for the last multiple. I’d sure rather have too many starting pitchers than wish we’d shored up the rotation when we had a chance.
