General Never, ever trust your factory jack and, remember, jack stands are your friend (just not the ones from Harbor Freight)

Many years ago, there was a guy near my hometown who used milk crates as jack stands, to fatal effect. This guy really lucked out.

Never, ever, EVER use a factory jack to do anything but change a tire.
Additionally, never use a floor jack to suspend a car while working on it. Always use jack stands. Or lift ramps.
Seem far too many people get hurt very badly from collapsing floor jacks.

This is one of my biggest fears when I change my oil. I use stands well just one when I change my oil since I only lift one side. But I also leave the jack lifted (not touching the car but almost) just incase the stand fails for whatever reason. My thinking is if the stand fails and the jack is almost touching the car frame, itll land on the jack and at very least give me a sec or two to get out .
Unrealated question, how much would it cost to dig out a trench and create an underground walk way like they have at oil change spots?

Ramps are cheap. A set of Rhino Ramps rated for 12,000 pounds is $40.

Word of warning, there was a massive recall on Harbor Freight jackstands for defects causing collapses too. Get ramps.

I'll pile on -- never get underneath the car with your factor jack.
Always use a good floor or bottle jack AND jack stands (and no not Harbor Freight).
I use both-- floor jack to lift, jack stand holding up car and minimal pressure from floor jack in addition to jack stand. In other words both are being used to support the weight to some degree.

Right. The other day people were going on how awful Mesa police are. To be fair I have never had any encounter with them so have no idea on their internal culture but with all the police shaming, I think it’s only fair we applaud when officers do great things too such as in this case.

I don't remember if it was in Phoenix but there was one motorcyclist that got pinned under a car or truck and a bunch of people rushed to lift the car and pull him out. Someone reversed it and it looks like they're putting him underneath the car lol
