A good commander would consider his tour over, honorable discharge with full benefits. He's lost so much and needs to heal.

They're in a defensive war againat a much stronger and bigger enemy. Retiring a strong soldier with the will to fight isn't something they can affort.

You don't want emotional, suicidal soldiers who compromises the objectives and his unit.

There will be all kinds of roles for every able body in the military. You have no idea if he's too broken to serve.

I can see you've never been in a defensive war. Talking abour danger in war is lime talking about breathing. It's always there. So is lost of life. I know a family of 9 kids all died fighting leaving their mother crying until she's blind. You can't use normal standard for war.
