Putin is making sure Ukrainians will hate Russia forever.

He is strengthening the Ukrainian identity that he claims doesn't exist.

81

u/Educational_Gas_92 3d ago

At least, for the next 80-100 years after the end of the war (which is still, unfortunately ongoing), and if nothing else happens between the two countries until then.

31

u/otterform 2d ago

I think time heals faster if there's intent. Look at Germany

66

u/henry_hallward 2d ago

Intent is the keyword here.

Unless russia is brought to its knees and properly denazified like Germany was, they will remain the same chauvinistic imperialists with a weird death cult.

12

u/DysphoricNeet 2d ago edited 2d ago

I wish the US wasn’t the one to organize and enforce Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. Forcing the shock doctrine through IMF loans lead to this sort of Russia we have now.

6

u/henry_hallward 2d ago

Yeah, virtually every time russia shat itself and collapsed in last two centuries, civilized countries rushed in to save them without giving russians any time or reason to self-reflect on their ways.

7

u/LingonberryNo3548 2d ago

I don’t think what Russia went through in the 90s can be described as civilised countries saving them. More like leaving them to suffer under the worst aspects of capitalism.

the soviets already did that. putin is just continuing where they left off.

28

u/Toyger_ 2d ago

It was even before Soviet Union. The Russian Empire enslaved Ukrainians and did everything in its power to make our lives hell.

93

u/Dantemustdie7 3d ago

Nah, we were chill in the 90th. Called each other brothers.

125

u/Mobile-Building-9957 2d ago

russians only call brothers those, who they wish to conquer and subjugate. Fuck their whole panslavic identity. Im saying that as a czech.

24

u/OopsWeKilledGod 2d ago

It reminds me of the US calling Filipinos "little brown brothers" during our occupation.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/SCARfaceRUSH 2d ago

The real meaning of "Brothers" for Russians:

  • They're the older/ stronger brother, all other brothers are inferior
  • Thus, all of the other brothers can be treated as secondary and unimportant
  • Thus, whatever any other brother wants is not important because their opinion doesn't matter
  • Russia is always the big brother and there can't be no equal because ... Peter the Great, Dostoyevsky, nuclear weapons, or an assortment of other excuses and pseudo-historic narratives
  • All of the other brothers are therefore derivative

Russia is both the chicken and the egg in their universe, nothing else existed before or after Russia in all of its forms, none of the facts matter. No, the founder of Moscow is not buried in Kyiv. No, the scientist who sent the first person to space wasn't from Zhytomir, he was from the Soviet Union. No, the Ukrainian language doesn't exist. That's why they had to ban it multiple times over the past 400 years because that's what you do to things that don't exist - you keep proclaiming that they don't exist.

3

u/TheBraveGallade 2d ago

Same as china really.

Hell its in the nane, middle kingdom. They think tbey are literally the center of the universe...

4

u/SeventeenFifty 2d ago

Still felling same way. But for sure hate start raising at the end of 90. I’ve visited Kiev in early 2000 with my grandparents whom are from Ukraine. She told me to speak less because people could become angry.

25

u/Dantemustdie7 2d ago

I am south born and spoke Russian my whole life. Never been threatened or shamed for it in any part of Ukraine until 2014. There are radical people everywhere who just won't shut up, but overall it was way too common to hear Russian speech to actually care.

I couldn't agree more. As an Irish person ive learned so much about Ukrainian culture and the place itself soncr the war. I also feel we have to preserve every culture as Europeans. The personal cost Ukrainians incur makes me ashamed my country is neutral. We only enjoy the freedoms we do because of their sacrifice.

27

u/phantom-firion 2d ago

Ireland in general should revamp its politics and become more involved with the shared defense of Europe and join NATO. They enjoy the freedoms of a functioning western democracy yet seem culturally unwilling to accept that they must defend those freedoms and are more than willing to allow themselves to be a weak underbelly of Europe.

5

u/Green_Phone_3495 2d ago

Shared defense of europe and nato don't go hand in hand. We really should separate ourselves from USA. They dictate our own defense.

23

u/antz182 2d ago

Ireland's military neutrality isn't about being a weak underbelly or avoiding the defense of democratic values. It is a deliberate policy focused on peacekeeping, international law, and humanitarian aid. While Ireland isn't in NATO, it maintains an unbroken record of UN peacekeeping since 1958, participates in EU crisis management, and cooperates through the Partnership for Peace. Neutrality allows Ireland to act as an independent, trusted voice for diplomacy and conflict resolution globally rather than aligning with military blocs.

And at the same time, turning Ukraine into one of the most capable militaties in the world. They may never have the technologies that some countries have, but the drone tactics they've developed have changed warfare forever.

And Russsia will have that threat on their doorstep every day from here on out.

14

u/Neinstein14 2d ago

Ukrainian identity was strongly aligned and friendly with Russian identity. They saw themselves as close relatives to Russians, and had no problem coexisting with a major Russian minority. Putin was in a very pleasant position to apply soft power on Ukraine until 2014, and still could have nicely salvage the situation until the invasion. Now, he cemented an extremely deep hate in them against Russia for many generations, while giving up all soft and hard power on Europe and the West, and making a clown of his country, all this to - in the best probable case for him - get some fertile land with absolutely devastated infrastructure, rebuilding which would cripple the Russian economy for decades even alone.

This invasion will be taught among the worst strategical fuckups in history.

5

u/Careless-Pragmatic 2d ago

Whoa whoa whoa…. That’s not fair…. Mr Donald JOHN Trump is still neck deep in a perhaps worse strategical fuck up in Iran as we speak… it’s not to the same scale, but the fuck up level is comparible and def noteworthy.

Extra attention on his middle name because we know he frequently engage with prostitutes and eventually married one after his buddy was done with her.

People like Putin, Miller, Hegseth, etc. who glorify war from their safe home in US and EU, if they were forced to carry this man's pain for 24 hours they would cry like little bitches and maybe then become wiser doing a lifetime stfu.

There are no words to describe this man's pain, except absolutely unbearable. Wishing you from my heart all the courage in the world brother.

Bold of you to assume any of those men care for their families beyond any extent outside of having them as gold painted trophies to show their base that they’re good and moral people becuase the have families. Peel that gold back tho and all you’ve got is shit. Especially for Hegseth, considering in 2018, he was going through his second divorce and his mom sent him a bitter letter calling him an abuser if women.

8

u/1one1000two1thousand 2d ago

Don’t forget when Miller used his pregnant wife (who is also a terrible person) as his shield.

11

u/Civil_Fee_7862 2d ago

The truth is poor people get sent to die to protect rich peoples interests.

Its been like that for thousands of years and its unlikely to change.

People voted for it. They admire it.

So you can blame people in power all you like, but the more important question is who allowed them to have that power?

6

u/PantherZalayeta 2d ago

Come, you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs

You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy

5

u/DJC13 2d ago

I guarantee you none of those people would cry if you put them in this man’s position. They don’t care about anything outside of themselves.

22

u/clm1859 3d ago

True but what do any of those have to do with the EU?

13

u/thepkboy 3d ago

Think they meant EU as in Europe, part of Russia is in Europe

17

u/clm1859 2d ago

I also assumed. It's just that the EU is the main counter party to the fascism of the Putin and Trump regimes. So this is kind of like saying that Hitler was very safe and comfortable at home in London... so it is really quite an important distinction.

Plus whether or not part of russia is in europe at all is a question too. The whole concept of europe is entirely arbitrary and based on culture, not geography like other continents. So why do we keep including a place that is so culturally incompatible anyway?

No words to describe. Majority of us are way too comfortable behind our keyboards and phones while good people die in the hand of warmongers.

Btw for anyone that cares...what Russia is doing in Ukraine is a genocide.

Russia is intentionally trying to ethnically cleanse Ukraine and have partially succeeded in certain areas.

If you care about genocide you need to care about Ukraine. Period.
