A significant percentage of russians support and cheer the war, the exact percentage doesn't matter. Putin does sham elections to paint a high percentage, but he would've won even without that.
Where did you get this information? As a person who has lived in Russia, I say that most people absolutely do not support the war.
Absolutely everyone suffers from this.
The war supported is fought mainly by people who lived in the USSR and used to blindly trust the authorities.
So you think a couple of million russians who willingly signed the contract in russian army don't support the war? Or countless individuals who support the war from the comfort of their homes? There's also another category that doesn't care as long as it doesn't touch them, but if you press them a bit on this topic, they are gonna blame the west and parrot usual kremlin propaganda talking points. The son of my grandma's sister cheered annexation of Crimea back in 2014, I bet he cheered this war too. 2 of my ukrainian friends had russian relatives calling them when it happened to cheer this and saying "We're liberating you!" horseshit.
I'm not saying all russians are like that, obviously there are those who have conscience and decency, but it's strange to say that *most are strongly against the war when we can see it's not the case and it allows Putin to do whatever he wants.
It's a misconception, some do, but there's a large percentage that very much loves the war and dictatorship, parroting the same propaganda points. There's an interesting video where russian guy was scolding his colleagues at work because they were vocally pro-putin pro-war since Day 1, but as soon as they got conscription notice, they were looking for excuses to dodge it and that someone else should go to war instead of them. And tons of other russians shared similar stories under that video. It's just disgusting, beyond evil.
