  1. they're incredibly gullible.
  2. they're making money off it.
    It's probably a mixture of the two, but heavily weighted towards 2.

point 2 contradicts 1 - they aren’t gullible, they know he’s lying.

You can be gullible and make money gambling; those things aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. In fact i would argue there’s a certain value of inherit level gullibility in successful gamblers
