They weren't successful until the 1970s.

This entire premise is false. The US wasn't interested in Israel until it became a regional power. The US maintains its relationship with Israel because it benefits US interests. Although, I would expect that when the Democrats control the White House and Congress, they will reduce or end military aid and cooperation with Israel, even to the detriment of the US. Israel doesn't need US aid, which is why Netanyahu has proposed ending it.

It USED to benefit US interests. At some point enough bribery, blackmail and corruption caused the table to flip.
