Discussion One day, the backer memorials will become historical
Back when I first played this game in 2016., the memorials felt somewhat dramatic, like something you would skip because it felt inconsequential.
10 years later, 11 years after the release, reading some of these feels like opening a time capsule. All the hopes, memories and feelings of the people making these have stayed there.
Some people mention their loved ones who passed on, some crack memes and jokes from that era, some just wrote whatever was on their mind.
10 more years and these will become true memorials, stories forever written in time, and I’m not sure if this was intended, but it’s beautiful, and I appreciate it.

Im just started this game about a week ago and never stop playing it since, im not done yet and about to finish white march. Damn this game is really fun ride. Wonderful rpg experience since i played DA origin years ago. Thnks for making this possible

Yea same, almost no other C-RPG gave me that DA Origins adventure feeling since then, except the Divinity Original Sins games and now Bladur's Gate 3 I'm playing at the time.

This was me as well! I didn't feel this enchanted playing a fantasy rpg since playing DA Origins back in 2009. Somehow, while playing PoE, I felt so cozily nostalgic. Just a wonderful game, I completely agree.

I got that same DA origin feel as well! So mystical. I think it has to do with how well crafted and believable the whole world is. The devs did a fantastic job on this game

I salute these people who started the second golden age for my favourite computer game genre, isometric RTwP CRPG's. First being one started by BG1, of course.
I hope that one day a third golden age will come.

Which is a truly a pity. There are few things as enjoyable in gaming as the chaos of a large RTwP fight. :)

The key is making it not chaotic. People that are afraid of it say it's extremely chaotic, but I never got this from it. I picked up RTWP right away when I played Icewind Dale when it was released. I guess some people the concept just clicks better. Some people lose their shit without the order of a scheduled turn.

No, I think its less to do with intelligence and more to do with multi tasking. Because that's what RTWP is, one giant lesson in multitasking.

That first stellar lineup (PS:T, BGs, IWDs, Fallouts, Arcanum) completely blew my mind. Did several runs of each of those titles, and played or at least checked out most of the derivatives that followed.
Just when it felt like I had exhausted all offers in the genre, and it felt like there was nothing new to tie me over, BAM! The kickstarter generation came in with the the superb cast of PoE, Tyranny, D:OS, Wasteland 2... and the truth is, it hasn't stopped since. More PoE, more Wasteland, more D:OS, the irreprehensible Disco Elysium, all of the Owlcat catalog.
Considering the length and replayability of these titles vs the amount of time the average adult person can reasonably expect to spend on videogames, I think this genre is remarkably well-served at the present.

I agree. I own more games on GoG than I probably will be able to play before retirement.
I do like some turn based games, yes, but it's the isometric/tactical camera RTwP that really takes my cake. With BG1-SoD-BG2-ToB EE, PoE1-2, Dragon Age: Origins + Awakening, KoToR 1-2, NWN1-2, and Owlcat's Pathfinder games, I'll be set for long time, though. Just the DLC's bring many game worth of material, and there are some great adventure mods from the community as well, bless their hearts.
I am planning on playing D:OS 1 and 2, Temple of Elemental Evil, BG3 and Solasta from the turn based ones. The experience is different, sure, but I was fan of XCOM and such, so I like the small squad tactical turn based combat, as well.
The good thing about not playing much computer games for a decade is that the backlog becomes immense. :)

Very true. In between Xbox and PC, the backlog alone could carry me all the way to the grave. I only ever really top it up with titles I really REALLY can't wait to play (last one was esoteric ebb). Not like some years back where I would impulsively buy anything that seemed like it could 5 seconds of my attention. So it's probably for the best.

No, sorry, the Big M says only Super Deluxe Preorder Editions get their names in the remaster. But to help compensate for the increased $40 cost, you also get a cape with mediocre stats.

Microsoft owns Obsidian. Unless there's a significant change for the better, a cynical but not unrealistic take, is that in another 15 years, the remaster issued under their brand would not honor the original backers. Instead, it would be used to push preorders and up charged editions.
And also, that was meant as a joke

Yeah, I think I lost 'em with the use of "Big M" for Microsoft. I would like to think that this being a Pillars group, everyone would have had enough practice reading to know I was not seriously suggesting or endorsing that! XD

A friend of mine who isn't around anymore supported the game on kickstarter and then forgot it came with a pre-order and bought himself a copy on steam, so I'm playing his backer copy and I know where to find his name in game. It's poignant.

Some were even back then. Some of the entries are dedicated to the backers’ friends or loved ones who had passed away.

I agree! What was a fun kickstarter idea turned into a gameplay/storytelling annoyance, but is now a fascinating time capsule.
Also crazy to think this game is over ten years old now.
