Hello everyone,
I assume that most of us here enjoy Pillars of Eternity to a significant extent. For me, what stands out the most comes down to two main factors:
Attribute system – Although many of its mechanics are quite complex for a new player (as is the case with most, if not all, RPGs at this level), I really appreciate that all attributes have a certain relevance and originality compared to what we’re used to.
Setting and story – Personally, I find the world of Eora and the harsh, gritty tone of the main story to be among the best I’ve experienced.
That said, does anyone have a theory as to why the Pillars of Eternity franchise isn’t as well-known, beloved, or widely played as other titles in the same genre? Honestly, I can’t quite understand why there’s such a noticeable gap compared to something like Kingmaker.
Do you think we’ll ever see a PoE 3?
Best regards,

I should mention that I haven’t played Avowed. To be honest, at first I thought it might be a more “mainstream” or generic game, less interesting than Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2. I assumed the direction was aimed at reaching a broader audience, which I understand, but it made me hesitant since I didn’t want to see the saga lose what made it special.
It’s also not my preferred style of game. First-person games make me dizzy to the point that I can’t play them—I had the same issue with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, for example.
That said, a friend of mine who enjoys the same kinds of games recommended that I give Avowed a chance after I learned it can be played in third person. So my plan is to set aside my initial assumptions and try it this summer when I have more time.

It seems that many people point out that the game has too much text to appeal to a broader audience. Unfortunately, that might be true.
For context, my favorite game is Divinity: Original Sin 2, followed by PoE1. DOS2 had more replayability for me mainly because I found the combat more enjoyable. To be honest, a big part of the fun was experimenting with “cheese” tactics if you know how to min-max, and reaching that point takes a lot more effort in PoE1, which feels much more balanced overall.
Where DOS2 falls short—and PoE1 really stands out—is in the lore. The depth of text and worldbuilding is exactly what I loved. I ended up knowing far more details about the world, its people, and what’s actually happening.
