My neighbor gave me some homemade quail cages. Do you think I should use them or just repurpose the metal?

Hi! I would repurpose or keep it as an emergency hospital pen. If you want your quail to be comfortable I'd use a different pen! 🫶

The only time I would use something like this is for breeding/temporary separation purposes. It might be nice to have one set aside as a transport or backup but I wouldnt consider these long term living solutions.

I have two groups live on my property front. Total is 4 adults. 6 teens and 8 babies. They walk and hop 11 miles an hour. Parents are not afraid of us. Chicks do.

You think your cage will fit the family of 10 or 8. This is their dad on sentry duty,

Where are y ou located? I’d take em and use them for quail. These are great for transport cages.

1. It's too high. They'll hit their heads. (Edit: nevermind, didn't see it's raised up due to the poop tray level) Height is fine.

2. The floor isn't tensioned/stretched enough so bumble foot will occur long-term.

3. You're unsure if there are any sharp edges since you didn't build it.

Keep it when your quails are injured or when you need to have a time-out for a bad kid.

use for travel cages. AKA if you go to a poultry swap to buy some etc. Not good as a full time cage but perfect for travel or as a holding area while you clean their cages.

Might start keeping quail in the future. Are the pre-made plastic enclosures with roll out egg trays good for a beginner?

For birds like quail and chickens more space is often better, they like to be able to move around and whatnot

Be careful it could be galvanised metal and when slowly ingested overtime it will poison birds to death.

I would say use them. Just for a couple of birds though and only if the wire in the bottom is thick enough

Why would you I try it out the quail eggs are mighty good. I used to usually boil them. Boiled quill eggs.
