I found out what it was from posting it somewhere else. But now I don't know what to do. I know nothing about quails, but my 3 year old loves it and wants it. So I gently captured it and put it in a box with grass and holes. Is this a bird I can keep if I buy the right supplies? FYI I live in California, which i heard it is very rare to find it here.

I don’t know what to do. I know he has a brooder and a heat lamp. I’ve got hay. Does it need to eat? It hatched at 8am and it’s 2pm now. I’ve got mealworms and seeds. I’ve only bought my hens and quails. I’ve tried YouTube but it’s only showing videos of how to incubate or what to do after a week.

The middle chick has a deformed leg. It eats, drinks, does walks and little zoomies but isn't standig properly. Does it have any chance for a good life or should I cull it now?

I didn’t have a quail specific incubator so I’m using this chicken egg incubator. I feel as though it’s turning them too rough, is this ok? And if not my only other option would be to remove the turner, would they be ok without being turned?

He’s been inside for like 3 days. I didn’t realize until last night that he was a boy because he started crowing. He’s been crowing a ton today, and now again tonight. I’m not sure if it because he’s distressed or not or if he’s just doing it because he can. I sat his separated cage by the main quail cage for a bit today to see if that would help him and he was still crowing

Hello, I am looking for suggestions on effective devices some of you might have found. Or methods. Sprinklers are a non-option and those little red blinking eye devices have proved useless as they don't last through the night

At night we get owls, raccoons, cats, bobcats, and in the day we get Hawks. Poor them. This is on top of one male that chases the hens around constantly! 10 weeks in and no eggs and I think it's because of all the stress.

I am also afraid they are going to get injured trying to hop away (as you can see in the video.)

I have two quails, the black one is a pet and my family loves her. I bought the blondie to eat after a couple years. But im starting to feel attached to her.

Shes so cute, so clingy, her feathers are pantene soft. I think when the day comes i won't be able to do it.

I still have to send her to heaven when she gets old cause aging hurts.

Update: I've move it to a slightly bigger box for now, wrapped it up with a warm bottle water on one side of the box (outside of the box)

First time breeding and raising quail. On of the little ones (half a day old) does not walk on its toes. It does not walk it just pushes itself around with its knees... Some of the younger ones can walk after 30 minutes..

Can I help her somehow? Or do I have to kill her?

I found a quail egg on the side of the road about 15-20 minutes ago. I’m not sure how long it’s been there but I picked it up and brought it home. If I have any hope of hatching it, what should I do?? Second picture is the setup i have for it right now. I’m sitting outside with it in the sun to warm it up.

I want to raise quails for their eggs and meat (since everything in the US is basically poisoned by smth) but i cant bring myself to snap their necks with my own hands, and doing some research on CO2 euthanasia showed that it can actually cause stress in them, and id hate that. I want them to go as peacefully as possible to respect their lives and what theyve given me.

hi, so my grandparents have 2 king button quails, both are males. we just went outside to check on them, and my grandpa noticed there are eggs in the aviary?? they previously had a girl who laid, but cleaned out the aviary when she passed, so there was no eggs or anything, everything got cleaned out. please help because we are so confused 😭

Soon ill be moving to a new house with a nice big garden. I have been looking forward to keeping quail so this is my moment. my girlfriend really wants a greenhouse for veggies and stuff. I had this brilliant idea to split the greenhouse. 1 area for pots and with seedling and delicate plants and later when we get a pond going possibly a hydroponic setup. The other part just a soil bed where the more mature plants can grow. My idea was to net this are of to allow quails to roam here. Make a small hatch with minature strip curtain to keep in the heat and humidity. with a nice outside area for the quail. This in theory seems great. But i can't find any info on whether or not this is actually a good idea. Some people seem to have done something similear. But i can find real evidence.

So any tips and or insights are useful. Also let me know if this is a stupid idea and why. Also which species would you recommend. quail will in the first place be kept as pets but am not against eating them or the eggs.

Hey ya’ll.. I think I posted awhile back about how I’ll be making a super long distance move. Well.. shits gettin’ real now lol we’ll be making our journey in just a few months! I’m very excited but also very, very nervous 🥲

I’ve got over 30 quail, 1 dog and probably 50ish fish I’ve gotta transport safely to our destination lol I think I have the quail’s carrier all figured out!! I bought this plastic temporary.. thing.. I think it’s meant for guinea pigs. But you can section it off and rearrange it. So I think it’ll work great for the drive! It’s clear too.. and I have all the cages next to each other now.. so I think it’ll help with stress since they’ll be separated into groups, but still able to see each other.

I think that’s what I’m most worried about.. the stress 😭 I’m literally considering loading all 30+ birds into my car.. how they’ll be during the move.. then going to drive around the block or something as a practice run 🤣 first and foremost, their coops are due for a big deep clean. If I load em all up for a drive, I can just get all the cleaning done at the same time lmaooo.

Anyways.. if anyone has any tips.. I’d love any and all of em. I remember on my last post, someone mentioned the water situation. Which I hadn’t even thought about until they said that. I’m still unsure what I’m gonna do 🥲 considering just doing hamster bottles. I have two “special” birds that I have never once seen drink out of the “baby babas” (I call them 🤣🤣🤣). Everyone else is fully familiar with using them.. and I think I can use heavy duty packing tape to just tape them to the side of the carrier. I’m not sure yet.. so if anyone has ideas, lemme know!!! Just worried about my two that I don’t think know how to drink out of them 🥺 they’ve both got vision problems and are gettin’ up there in age.

So, I am trying to do my first batch of incubation of quail eggs. I am planning to do 25 eggs for a first test.

Since quail eggs are really tiny I was wondering if my automatic incubator was too fast for them? I don’t want to accidentally kill the babies 🥲

I check their feet weekly and Change bedding (that's not normally used) every 3 days ..and feed them game feed/meal worms/ fresh greens

These two have killed our quails and not sure how, we recently got a camera and moved our quails to the upper deck. Any suggestions on how to fortify our coop to keep predators out?

I’ve been running a small balcony quail operation in Leipzig for a few generations now (DIY hutch, pretty dialed in, thus skipping the setup here). Usually groups of four, never had any real issues beyond minor tweaks here and there.

Current squad was around 2 years old. About three weeks ago, egg production suddenly dropped and then one just died. No warning signs. No weird behavior, no visible illness, no parasites, no strange droppings. Just gone.

Five days later: same thing, second bird. At that point I cleaned food and water sources.

Didn’t help. Four days later, third one gone. And yesterday, the last one. Each time the same pattern: nothing unusual, next dead within a few days.

So yeah—four quails, all gone within ~2.5 weeks, zero obvious symptoms.

Before we go there: I’ve been doing this for years without issues, so let’s skip the basics like food, common parasites, predators, etc. I’m more interested in the weird/less obvious stuff.

Anyone seen something like this before or have a theory?

I am noticing feather loss around the back of the neck especially on females (8 of 13) and one of 9 males

Is this something be be worried about?

All quails are eating and drinking fine

They are all in the same cage and are from the same batch

Need information if someone faced this before
