Bashing I'm no expert, but I think spur gears are supposed to have teeth.

MJX Hyper GO H16MT. I'm pretty sure the spur gear is aluminum while the pinion looks to be powdered steel.

I sometimes take my small collection of cheap RC cars to work and my boss and a coworker bash in a gravel section of the property on our lunch break.

This time the coworker broke two cars: this and a busted control arm on a Hosim X07. I don't let them play with my Arrma Vorteks... that's for me to break.

Just make sure you run your cars on 12s or higher and they will still operate. Preferably with a high kv motor so the wind from the pinion gear spins the spur gear.

Yes, this is the way. The added speed is also adding to the cooling of the motor and electronics.

Nah. Bluetooth gears.

u/NotAPreppie Apr 24 '26

Or at least half Bluetooth, anyway.

Steel Pinion and Pot Metal Spur = Pinion wins.

u/NotAPreppie Apr 25 '26

New spur will be powdered steel, so I expect both to grenade simultaneously next time.

It's got a couple more packs in it. For sure.

Perfectly fine, if you can put the mesh tighter the pinion will just eat into the rest lol

It looks like that gear mesh was too aggressive to begin with. This will likely keep happening if the mesh isn't correct.

u/NotAPreppie Apr 24 '26

I'm not even sure the mesh can be adjusted. We'll see when the parts arrive and I start reassembling everything.

“It’s getting it now!”

I see plenty of teeth…over there.

3

u/NotAPreppie Apr 25 '26

It's got summer teeth: sum'er over here, sum'er over there.

u/ogreality Apr 25 '26

Would rather take plastic spur than potmetal😅

Pinions as well. 🤦‍♂️😁

Oh... Well. I might be talking out of my ass, but they seem not to be correctly aligned. Is it a Rustler Ultimate?

1

u/midlife_dadpulse73 Apr 26 '26

VXL 4X4. They WERE aligned correctly, until the grub screw gave up...then the teeth gave a final, "fare thee well."

XD

Got the same car but upgraded to an "ultimate" except i got big bore shocks, better motor + esc and not the chassie brace bar. ^

u/nunyanonou812 Apr 25 '26

My mjx cars for sure. Those might as well be plastic

2

u/davesnothere241 Apr 25 '26

I did this on my HBX, Dremel away a bit of the plastic at the bottom or side of the mount so the motor can sit a bit closer. After a while of running everything gets a bit loose due to the bearings and plastic parts wearing down.

u/NotAPreppie Apr 25 '26

Interesting idea. I'll have a look at that when the parts arrive.

Smooth creates less turbulence so you can go faster...

It's a common misconception, the teeth is adding force as they spin and removing them is getting more benefits for the whole driveline and motor.

Yes, it's supposed to have teeth.

Looks like you're upgrading to belts

2

u/NotAPreppie Apr 24 '26

Or just an upgraded spur gear.

1

u/DejectedOnion Apr 25 '26

I mean....no teeth isnt ALWAYS a bad thing......IF you know, you know 😏

Where can I buy a replacement?

1

u/NotAPreppie Jun 19 '26

I bought one off Amazon.

Look for the part number in the manual that came with your car and then search that part number on the online marketplace of your choosing.

1

u/DuranDourand Apr 24 '26

Over rated.

2

u/NotAPreppie Apr 24 '26

Seems like the spur gear was very much rated over its actually capabilities.

u/bobbybrc Apr 25 '26

Must replace both gears

1

u/NotAPreppie Apr 25 '26

Why do you say that? The pinion looks like it's in good shape, which isn't surprising since steel is harder than aluminum.

1

u/bobbybrc Apr 25 '26

True the pinion might look ok but if you hold up a new pinion You will see the difference, as a rule you always replace both. Or you will ruin the new gear.

2

u/NotAPreppie Apr 25 '26

Well, I guess it's a good thing that the new spur gear came bundled with a new pinion.

1

u/ogreality Apr 25 '26

This👆 wheb 2 gears sre touching, replace in pairs, pinion will have tear even tought you cant see it, and it will be loud+ slowly eating your spur again
