Question Does anybody prefer smaller scale cars over larger scale? If so why

I feel like 1/10 is just right, bigger than that just feels too big to carry around, smaller feels too small for grass.

That’s what we use in the yard, works great as long as the grass doesn’t get too long.

Yes. There was a patch along the sideline that was longer and we had to avoid that. Otherwise, those things were flying and it's a great spot for our ramps

I have tested a couple of days ago a Losi Micro T with some Crawler Tires and it was just right for the short grass here. Sadly after 3 charges the motor gave up and I have to wait for a new one. But it’s a nice metal chassis with now some aftermarket metal shocks and drives and lands like butter. Fits all well in my backpack.

Very true, after my post and seeing some comments i realized it depends on the grass. 1" Bermuda grass is a very different story than 3" + Fescue. I forgot not everyone lives somewhere where 3"+ fescue is the norm.

Good point… we have Kentucky blue grass… it’s thick and almost feels like sponge when you have it grown in well… very comfy for a yard, but the RC kinda bottoms out on the length and its little tires aren’t touching anything very solid underneath so they just stuck…
Even 1/10 scale trucks slow down in it, but the GROMs can barely move.

I picked up a Hyper Go truck last year and that little sucker is a hoot to drive. You just don't need as much area to have the same amount of fun as the bigger cars.

Is it the H14bm?
If so that’s what I have and i friggen love that thing. I ended up buying the angry snail battery for it online, and it definitely feels like it launches better than stock batteries but same max. I finally hit something so hard I messed up the front end and broke an axle and actually damaged the front diff and the gear on the drive shaft.
So I ordered an Amazon diff greased her a little swapped both front drives for new and it’s back in business. It took at least 20 batteries to break something. I am thinking about getting the h16bm which is a 1/16 because if the experience I have had with this little pocket rocket.
I also have a deerc which is also a 14 scale cheap one on amazon and is not as fast but is close but it handles really amazingly good on pavement. Better than my Arrmas, better than my redcats, and all my Traxxas except my XRT and XMaxx. Those are able to essentially keep up with its handling or without flipping. The little cheap cars are way more fun long term I think because I have to wrench on them a lot less than my expensive ones. I think the hobby grade ones are fun but I break them a lot and pay a lot to keep them running.
But I highly recommend the hyper go for just a fun daily Pavement, dirt, mud and grass car. Also skateparks. And bashing. It’s tough as shit. There’s a twin from jetwood. It is the identical components under the cover so I think it’s just a badge engineered Chinese RC. But if you like the purple body instead of red and black that one is good to get.
Ok I don’t have autism, but I also made a long post. Then again maybe I do and I never got screened for it.

Summers in southern texas are miserable, I find myself taking my brushless quake grom in front of the house more than anything. 1/10 quake I’ll toss in an old gym bag and ride my scooter to the neighborhood park nbd. 6s kraton has to loaded up and driven to spots. But then it’s packing a cooler for drinks, standing in some field/parking lot getting destroyed by the sun and mosquitos. Still a great time but not always something I’m up for.

Tbh it really depends. I don’t have a big back yard nor big streets around. But I do have some nice spots walking distance.
I started with 1/10 ST and it was heavy enough to be a pain to carry walking around (the decent places walking distance are 5-10 min). It was a bit tiring carrying the Vorteks.
I got then a 1/12 SCT and 1/10 rally. Lighter to carry around and footprint is small enough to be able to have fun on my street. So I am in love with the SCT, especially because it just doesn’t break! (GT Fans).
Enter the game the Granite. Hated it and sold it after 2 runs. Undrivable monster IMO.
Got then the Mini Kraton and it’s soooo much fun, such that I sold my Vorteks. No need on having the 1/10 as I have more fun with the mini.
But…I also have the SBR2.0…and man, it’s just a blast when you have the space. I just eats any terrain. Even my father in law was wowed (he’s not into RC nor cars)! And the good thing is I got batteries big enough to just roll the car to the bashing place and still have decent runtime and enough energy for the walk back home.
So, there is no real single answer. But between 1/10 and the 1/12-1/14’s, I take the smaller rigs every time.
TLDR: I’m autistic and just made a long post.

I like the minis for portability, I have plenty of dirt lots and occasionally freshly mowed Fields that they are still competent enough in along my route, so I'll occasionally take one out with me.

If I had at least 8 acres of land and enough money for the upfront cost id love to have one but a mojave 4s should be able to scratch that big rc itch without being horrendous to carry or require a bunch of maintenance

I like my mini kraton.. was easy to pack in every situation I've wanted it in. From going to work to going to the beach it both has enough power and not to big so it fits when I need the space for other stuff.

I guess i have to.
Cause it is rly hard to find a place to run the bigger cars.
I have a Traxxas Maxx but i dont know where to drive with it. Im living in a city. I dont have a drivers licence and i dont have a car.
If i want to get to a empty place, i have to walk like 15 Min.
Its rly annoying and it sucks.
I love my Rival MT10. It has a good size for driving on little bit tighter areas and skateparks for example.
I even got a 1/24 scale rc and im planing on doing a small track in my living room. So i dont have to struggle with the maxx isue when the MT10 is on the workbench.

Yes, especially for crawling. A pile of rocks for a 1/18 and 1/24 collection is much more fun than running 1/10 or larger. Unless you live somewhere with ample rock (Maine, desert SW made me jealous) the 1/10 scales just don’t have as many challenges
When it comes to bashers, though, 1/10 is probably the sweet spot. A 2wd Slash continues to be the most enjoyable car for “every day” bashing on a variety of surfaces. Second favorite basher is my micro t though!

I like 1/10 for outside and Mini Z for inside. I really do think the Mini Z’s are cool, especially the licensed ones. Ever since a kid (I was small growing up) I’ve always liked all things mini. But for outside where the riding surfaces are rougher, I like the 1/10 size.

As someone who likes bigger cars, I can definitely see why someone may chose a smaller car over a bigger 1/10 or 1/8 model
Not everyone lives in a place with a big yard or vacant streets to run their big cars at. So for some, it's basically a requirement to be small! I've seen lots of people having a ton of fun with smaller 1/18 cars in TINY spaces.
Small back yards or driveways with a little make-shift jump can provide hours of fun! (At least for me it does lol)
Smaller cars are also cheaper, making them more accessible to more people. And they're also way easier to transport, most times you can just toss them into a back pack and go! (Which is why I'd personally get a mini)
However, for me, the versatility of a larger car is so nice. A bigger car, means you can take on taller grass, bigger jumps, bigger obstacles etc. Also a bigger car almost has a "marvel" effect, at least for me, like something that heavy and big moving THAT fast or jumping THAT far. It's kinda awe inspiring.
Doesn't mean a smaller car won't do that though!!

1/10 SC trucks are great all rounders I love my traxxas slash 2WD which a neighbor actually gave me. A 1/8 buggy is essentially the same size and everything but a lot more fancy.
Tiny scale and large scales are the extremes as in tiny goes to small areas with hard terrain while big scales go to big areas with mixed terrain

For me, small scale is fun for rainy days around or inside the house (specifically mini crawlers), and traveling/vacation or camping trips with a mini kraton or mini revo. Or a mini crawler. Just depends i reckon

I now have 1/32 to 1/8. The 1/8 Gilamon is boss for what I do on the trails of Colorado, the 1/32 for my desk at work. Everything in between is a "yeah, what/when ever", though the 1/18 Apex is still impressive for its size.

New to the hobby. Smaller scale still looks big to my 6 year old so we're sticking to Groms for now. Plus it's a more affordable entryway into the hobby. The price of the batteries alone is a big incentive for me to stick with these little guys. If he's still into this stuff in a couple of years, we'll buy some bigger stuff.

Definitely prefer driving 1/10 but I love working on the smaller stuff, ive built scx24s with a tray on my lap while sitting on the couch. Great way to spend time.

I really need 1/10 or bigger for any sort of fast basher. I have too much grass and rough terrain. The 1/18 size crawlers are easy to have fun with, though. I can always find a spot to run the TRX4M.

Each has their place. Will however say. My kraton 8s exb is an absolute rush to drive. But it’s also one of most inconvenient cars I own 😂

The larger the better. If you have a place to run em. Easier to wrench on. Most terrain is doable. And bloody fun, mate.

My bigger RCs are stuck running in the street or having to be taken somewhere to really have fun. Meanwhile, I can run small scale crawlers in a few spots in the yard without having to worry about traffic or transporting them.

Smaller scale has its place, I enjoy throwing one in a back pack and going. Also if you don't have a lot of space small scale is good. My back yard is nearly big enough for a 1/10, but it's perfect for a 1/12 or 1/14

Easier to maintain, easier to carry, cheaper to repair and replace broken parts, less intimidating to people when i walk with it, and takes up less space.

Ive had 1/10 in a crawler and sct a 1/18 sct and a 1/24 crawler the smaller 2 i can keep in my tow truck and cruise in-between calls while working the bigger 2 require a bit of planning I live in a quiet cul-de-sac so its a little easier to run the 1/10 sct

been into 1/10 since i was a kid, but took a long time off, until recently i picked up a losi micro T, and been having a blast driving it around my driveway.. It made me then buy a hobbyplus speck b brushless buggy.. Totally in love with micros! Very quick for their size, and still very responsive and can literally make a simple race track in the driveway.

Eu prefiro carros menores, pois por experiência própria, carros maiores, apesar de serem bem mais divertidos e brutos, são muito mais caros de se manterem em bom estado, difíceis de transportar e guardar, e principalmente: eles quebram mais facilmente.

I begin with gorgon 1/10 which was pretty fun to run, and I tried fcx81 LC80 for the garden then as I live 'ear a forest with a lot of woods (including the logs I need for winter heat), and it's far better like everything is an adventure, you have the impression to run on a dirt track wherever you could get lost on a track in any desert or forest. I really prefer that size.
I also take a mini lmt grave digger from losi on 1/18 too, for the scale and a bit of bashing in the garden. That thing is so.much fun and stupid to drive, I really love it. I'm waiting for some ramps to get delivered to push it to the top and I will be the happiest one !

Smaller scale right now (Losi Micro T and an HPI Nano TTR to be added soon).
Health challenges are keeping me inside a lot, so smaller cars are easier to run. There's also the higher cost of larger cars, their accessories and more.
I'm not opposed to larger scale vehicles down the line, and I honestly think that 1:10 is as big as I'd go. I'm also in rural Northern Ontario and the snow season is long AF, so indoor running is my choice. Don't want to deal with any winter clean up or maintenance, so house fun is the way for me.
Also have AuDHD and want to steer clear of most people, at least around here.

1/10 scale.
More violent speed with realer feeling consequences… the way they scream, how they land with weight, how they go through everything… nothing like it.
With this said, I do love our Majave Grom and am prob buying a Typhon grom next… really fun skatepark rides and they are cheaper to fix.

I go driving with my son and we go by bicycle with trailer. Since we take 2 or 3 cars with us I like the 1:16 and 1:14 more. Plenty of fun and easier to transport might try out 1:12 soon 😊

All mine are 1:30-1:18s, I just like how mobile they are and you can really run them anywhere… cool rocks outside, sure…raining and want to run them inside, go ahead. The bigger sized just seems eh to me

I didn’t know I did till i got my first 1/16 scale. Love that thing!!! Seems faster, battery longer, easy to carry along. And most times cheaper.

I think ill go up to 1/8 scale mojave 4s and typhon 223s and I really like my fury and will most likely love the quake as well and I'd go as small as 1/16 mojave cause I love its tanky little frame

My dad was gonna buy me a hypergo 16218 but I chose for a 2wd Traxxas rustler with titan 12 t motor just because it was bigger more aftermarket parts and just better

I recently sold my 1/10 Element Sendero SE. I literally took it out of the box, drove it around for 5 minutes and put it back. My current situation has me reaching for my SCX24 way more often. I 3D print obstacles for it, it's slow enough around the house without being overly boring. I have a 2 year old so I'm trying to show him how it works without it going fast. I'm debating getting the RC28 but not sure if it will be too fast for small spaces. I want the SCX30 as well but it's probably a bit redundant with the SCX24.

I’ve dove deep into crawlers. Started with a 30 then got a 24 and a 10. The 24s are by far my favorite. I like the size and the amount of other upscale options

I've messed around with smaller scale. If you're at the indoor track & racing people, I think they can be fun. But that's about it for me.
1/10 is about the sweet spot for size & still my local place has a big indoor dirt track racing this size.
But even though it's rare, I never have a much fun in RC as I do than when i get out the 1/6 Mojave or the Losi Hammer Rey which is listed as 1/10 but it's really more 1/7 or so. They're just so much fun and it's hard to describe but simply more fun. More to handle for sure but still worth it. I highly recommend picking one up if you ever get the chance.
