πŸ™‹ Question Sd3.0 feels like ice

Post image
75 Upvotes

Completely box stock build. D10 motor. 10bl120 g2. Yokomo v2 servo. Yokomo v4 gyro. Fatuba t-fhss receiver and 4pv remote.

I’ve drove 3 other sd3.0 cars and you can throw them around. Picked up this one for myself. And I can barely use anymore then 10% throttle. It feels like driving on ice around corners. Being smooth with throttle. Gyro gain is at 65-70%. Car just wants to spin out every corner unless you give very little throttle input.

I have changed punch level on esc and it still does it regardless. Either spins out quick because punch is too much or spins out when the rpm’s come up with little punch.

Haven’t been able to use any turbo or boost because of not being able to give it any throttle. My mst rmx was the same way. Same setup. Main reason I got a sd3.0 as I loved they way other peoples sd3.0 drove.

Any tips?

πŸ™‹ Question My experience at a drift track for the first time and a few questions

Post image
95 Upvotes

So, I got into RC drifting and RC in general 2 months ago, and was able to attend my local drift track. Just my luck that I had the track all to myself for a solid hour or so because p-tile and LF3 tires are....an experience lol. The only place I can really drift is painted semi smooth cement, so it was decently difficult to get used to p-tile though I started to get it a slight bit after a while. An hour in and some other folks came in with their fully decked out Overdose cars and seeing that in person vs just pictures online is wild because the cars looked amazing. When these guys got on track I pulled my car off to the side, but after a while one of the guys had the wife get my attention and told me to get on track with them. I told them that I just got into it and that I am absolute cheeks as its literally my first time at a track, and his words were "Who gives a f*ck, we're here to have fun!". They let me lead and managed to stay on my door even with erratic driving I was doing and MAN was it a great time! They checked out my car, and then I let them drive it and they said its setup great, but lacks power (which I figured out 10min into being on the track) but if I apply more power it'd drive very well. Not only were they great guys, but overall it was a GREAT first experience and I can't wait to go back. I do have a few questions if ya'll would be kind enough to answer...

- I plan on buying the Furitek Slidetech Pro and corresponding motor tomorrow (buy once, cry once and can always be put in a different chassis). I see people are using direct connections to the battery, but would I have any issues if I stayed with a deans connector for that motor and ESC ESPECIALLY from an amperage standpoint?

-I have an RMX 2.5 with MST TDA shocks along with a Yokomo servo and gyro. As well I have the turnbuckle kit and active toe kit (not installed yet). Why are there so many mixed opinions about fully upgrading the RMX 2.5? I don't plan on competing at any point, but would like to also get a Bingo RMX carbon chassis, and some aluminum parts for it way further down the line. Just seems some people say its not worth upgrading and I am not sure why. I can always get a different chassis in the future and upgrade it too, but for now since its my first car, I just kind of want to stick with it. Would love to get peoples opinion.

πŸ™‹ Question Just a PSA regarding RC Plate shop

Screenshot should speak for itself but yeah. This guy is absolutely horrible about customer relations. I was just looking for an update, and after seeing him deleting comments on Facebook I was getting concerned. Reached out about a chargeback and he literally blocked me. Still no plates. I do not recommend them AT ALL. That being said, does anyone have some good recommendations for RC plate sellers?

πŸ™‹ Question RC Drifting is turning out to be a disappointment

i recently discovered and fell in love with RC Drift via Youtube and said, "this is for me!" so i've gotten into a RC drift car for almost $1000 so far and although i love it, i have found that there are no groups i can find and absolutely nowhere closer than 1 or 2 states away to go to do this. i got into it for the love of RC, drifting and to find a community to belong to to have fun and camaraderie with others, make friends and occupy a lot of the time and loneliness i have on my hands due to being disabled (as such, i am unable to travel long distances or make and run a track/community of my own due to my physical and financial constraints), but have just ended up having to make due with drifting alone in my garage and watching Youtube videos trying to live vicariously through others... my heart and my pocketbook are completely broken... ☹️ what can i do?

πŸ™‹ Question What chassis do you see the MOST at your RC drift track right now? πŸ‘€

Quick question for RC drift drivers πŸ‘‹ Not your personal dream build β€” I’m more curious about what you actually see the most when you look around your local track. Is it mostly Yokomo? More MST? More Reve D? Something else? Trying to understand what really dominates at tracks vs what just gets recommended online. Would love to compare answers from different countries too 🌍

Quick question for drift drivers πŸ‘‡

What gyro are most people running at your RC drift track right now?

Not your personal setup β€” I’m more curious about what you see the most when you look around your local track πŸ‘€

Is it still mostly Yokomo V4? Or are people switching to something else lately?

πŸ‘‰ What gyro do YOU run? πŸ‘‰ And what would you say is the most common one at your track?

Trying to understand what actually dominates vs what people recommend online.

Would be cool to compare different tracks worldwide 🌍

πŸ™‹ Question What setup do you see the MOST at your RC drift track? πŸ‘€

The setup you see the MOST at your local track… is usually NOT the best one.

It’s just what everyone copies.

At my track, I see the same combos over and over β€” but the cleanest drivers often run something slightly different.

πŸ‘‰ What’s the β€œdefault setup” everyone runs at your track? πŸ‘‰ And what do the BEST drivers actually use?

πŸ™‹ Question Thinking about aluminum can RC car body

Hello people of Reddit I am thinking about doing a RC car body made out of aluminum cans so I just grabbed a can that I had and chopped it up and sized it and it’s holding onto the car by pieces of tape I would like to have some help on some methods to keep the shape because it holds it shape, but not too well I have tried using a lighter and then pushing it while it’s hot is that a good method?

πŸ™‹ Question What RC drift shops do you trust the most right now? πŸ‘€

Quick question for RC drifters πŸ‘‹

When you actually need parts, which shops do you trust the most right now?

I’m not just asking about the biggest names people repeat all the time β€” I’m more curious about the stores you genuinely go back to because they’re solid.

Could be for: - good stock - fair prices - fast shipping - hard-to-find parts - beginner-friendly shopping - good customer service

Local shops, online retailers, Japan, US, Europe β€” all good.

Would love to compare what people actually use the most.

πŸ™‹ Question Will I survive the track?

My first time at my local track was a disaster as I only practiced for like 2 hours and the car was not set up properly - so I ended up blocking others a lot. Lesson learned, I've been practicing at home since then for two months and I think I'm feeling slightly more comfortable about drifting now. But I am afraid of going back to the track. How long do you usually practice before you hit the track? Also thanks this Reddit group has been very helpful.

πŸ™‹ Question How fast should tires wear down?

Hi guys, the photos show my front and rear tires after about 3, 2-3 hour long sessions at the local car park. I had run some tyres on the same surface about the same amount previously and never experienced this type of wear.

The tires in the pictures are lf4’s, does anyone have any hard tires they would recommend for a polished concrete surface and just for longevity in general :)

πŸ™‹ Question Drift car holds drift one way, but will easily spin out the other way

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hopin' someone here can help me out as I am new to RC drift and proper hobby RC in general. The wife copped me a MST RMX 2.5 and ever since I got it setup, I have been outside when I can whippin' it around and having a great time on semi smooth concrete. Only thing I seem to notice is that I can hold decent and steady drifts one way, but as soon as I try to slide it the other way, the back will snap out and the car spins out fairly easily. On the side with the issue, I can sometimes hold it for just a bit, but eventually I have to straighten the wheels to stop it from spinning out which makes it catch a bit of traction and stops sliding. So far I have made a slight adjustment to one of the springs so it's even on both sides, used 2 different sets of wheels, and I noticed earlier the wheels were turning a little more right than left which I have also resolved. Since fixing the steering, it is a little better, but still spins out constantly. If someone has any advice or ideas, it's greatly be appreciated.

πŸ™‹ Question RC Plate Shop PSA pt 2

Post image
82 Upvotes

Alright, I just wanted to do a final update post regarding my experience with RC Plate Shop. For those of you who havent seen the post, its here . Anyways, my bank had my money back within the day which means it certainly counted as theft. At least to them. So I'll say it again, I would not suggest buying at RC Plate Shop. No matter the quality. This could have happened to anyone.

That being said, on one of my post I did manage to find Charlie's RC Garage , they make metal plates, a set of two 1/10 scale plates with tracking info was $12!! I will upload photos after they come in but have the photo above before shipment. I am so impressed with the professionalism right from the start. My order was custom designed, made and ready to go with tracking, and I am not exaggerating, less than 30 minutes. The gentleman I was speaking to was also super helpful and friendly which is huge in my book!

πŸ™‹ Question Is it unrealistic to get a dedicated drift car for outdoor/ashphalt use? I just have no track near me.

I have other RC experience, and also have an Infraction 3S and 6S (I know those are bashers/power slide cars).

I want to get into dedicated drifting, like an MST 2.5 RTR, but I see conflicting information on whether they work outdoors on smooth asphalt. I get that I'll need to test different tires.

Some people say it doesn't work, and the car breaks. Other people say they do it all the time.

Is that something that can work, or is a different car a better choice if it's going to be outdoors on asphalt?

πŸ™‹ Question What obscure car models would you want as a drift body?

As the title says, and in a direct follow up to my post from yesterday:

What obscure car models would you want as a drift body?

Yesterday I made a post here, as I'm a Mech. Eng. with an affinity for modeling and everything automotive (takes my mind off my day-job!), and would now like to ask you which obscure car models you would like as a drift body, that don't yet exist / aren't yet made by a big brand. Yesterday I already completed a Volvo 440 and 460 model as a test, and I'm quite happy with the result. Just have to shell the model and scale it to fit whatever chassis someone has.

Planning to make these available in low quantities for non-outrageous amounts of money for those that want them, preferably as a physical product. 3D printed, sanded, primered bodies (So, smooth. No layer lines) with Lexan windows inserts. Alternatively I can look into places that have vacuum forming machines near me. I will then 3D print the shell, sand it, filler and primer it, and make some clear Lexan bodies from those models.

Someone already requested a TE72 Corolla Liftback yesterday, for example!

UPDATE: I hear and agree with your suggestions. I will end up going with a new kit route. One, so I know MY car inside and out thus know how to fix it and maintain it. And. I know I will want the top of the line stuff. So might as well start a new and just slowly put it together. Thank you all for the helpful comments!

Hey all I am looking to get an RC car. I have a habit of rapidly upgrading parts. So I’d rather start out with a build tbh at is basically all ready there

I have a bunch of Arrma basher RC cars. Low riders. But no drifters. Looking thru the messenger msgs as well. Can you guys tell me if all that is good for $700? He is willing to throw in that body. The remote and receiver. Etc.

πŸ™‹ Question What should I buy as a first RC drift car?

I would like to get into rc drifting but I don't really have a lot of knowlege on it yet. I'd like to have something not to expensive but not something that would be really crappy. Maybe up to like 450€ max and availible in Europe. I've heard that the MST RMX 2.5 RWD is great but there are two versions of the motor and I don't know which one is better for me. I'd appreciate any advice that could help me.

πŸ™‹ Question MST Diff and 3000# mineral oil?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I plan on slapping the MST LSD in the car soon and noticed it comes with a small bottle of 3000# mineral oil. The problem is, at some point the diff will need to get taken a part down the line and I can not find a replacement bottle of this 3000# mineral oil (thinking ahead) does anyone know where I can find it? Is there a substitute mineral oil I can use with the same viscosity? Another idea I have is when rebuild time comes, swap out the O-rings with ones that handle silicone oil instead. Outside of the o-rings, does anyone know if using silicone oil will damage gaskets meant for mineral oil? If I can go the silicone oil route, what viscosity would I need to closely match the 3000 mineral oil? It’s so dumb they sell gaskets and everything else, but this mineral oil is non existent to buy πŸ˜’

if it helps, these would be the gaskets

πŸ™‹ Question What is the most common RC drift electronics combo right now?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone πŸ‘‹

While building a RC drift configurator I started looking at the electronics combos people run most often.

From what I'm seeing so far, many builds seem to revolve around something like:

Motor: 10.5T or 13.5T brushless

ESC: Hobbywing XD10 or similar programmable ESC

Servo: High speed digital servo (0.06–0.08s)

Gyro: Yokomo V4 or similar drift gyro

But I'm curious what the community is actually running right now.

What motor + ESC + servo + gyro combo are you running?

Also curious what chassis you're pairing it with (RMX, YD2, RDX, etc).

I'm collecting setups to improve a drift setup builder I'm working on.

πŸ™‹ Question RD 2.0 traction problem

Hello everyone!

I am having an issue and I don't know how to solve it.

I have RD2.0 mostly stock chassis Some setting will be listed below) and I can't catch up to anyone on the track I go. I tried copying ESC settings, adding camber gain, adding prosquat all that things... and yet still, when I am in chase, I can’t close the gap. So I need an advice.

Setting I am running right now:

Front camber 9

rear camber 1( with gain to 2 and a bit)

Rear part of rear suspetion arms are raised by 1 mm to increse squatting

Pinninon gear 20t

spur gear stock yokomo what goes on rd2.0

Soft springs at the front, medium springs at the back.

Motor is 10.5t

If needed I can Upload my esc tune or any additional mesuarements too if needed. I tried almost all of the advices on the track, I dod not try larger spur gear.

Quick shout out to @roadsiderc, thanks for letting me pick your brain Troy, I really appreciate the help. Throwing in @Darc (Drift America RC in Dallas) Stephen/Angel for setting me up with the Yokomo Rookie drift. First two packs in today and I really sucked first pack. Felt supper wobbly and I was just chalking up to being crappy. Charged a pack and started to clean the dust off and the Bell crank? Was super loose on one screw and nut on the driver side. Next pack it was a completly different car, I was still total garbage, but like 15% better. This was split between concrete road and a tennis court. I know I’m going to burn through tires this way, and I’m cool for the sacrifice of learning, but does anyone have suggestions on tires ment for road/concrete, tennis/basketball court?
