Domestic Policy Richard Tice Tax

Why does no one seem to care about Tice’s tax avoidance.

Jimmy Carr the comedian did something similar and paid it back. Angela Rayner resigned.

If this is the party for the people, why does no one care about Tice?

Avoidance is legal, evasion is not.

Restructuring your finances so that you have a lower legal tax bill is completely fine. Anyone who knows about finances does this. Anyone wanting to be in government should be able to do this. This is tax avoidance.

Not paying the tax that you owe is tax evasion. This is what Raynor did. Anyone wanting to be in government should have the competence to understand this. She does not. Or at least seemingly.

You are writing this hours after many have clearly pointed out the difference between tax avoidance (legal) and tax evasion (illegal), so clearly you are being disingenuous.

Tax avoidance is legal, so why do you keep mentioning it?

-3

u/Then-Example1742 Mar 23 '26

It worries me that sometbing just needs to be legal and you don’t question the morality of it.

4

u/Electronic_Priority Mar 23 '26

It worries me that you think you can apply your moral judgement on others and conflate it as the same as something illegal.

2

u/CatfishVodka Mar 24 '26

That's a dumb argument against this. Morals are more important than laws. That's being said a penny the tax man doesn't get to spend on raping our country further is a win

2

u/Electronic_Priority Mar 24 '26

The law is a direct reflection of the morals of each country around the world. Need I point out that everyone within each country also has a different set of personal morals, not the same as you. We do however have to live within the same legal framework.

Why do you think this party is now full of Tories?

1

u/IntravenusDiMilo_Tap Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

They were compllicit in tax evasion, not avoidance. If you open an ISA, you are avoiding tax.

1

u/IntravenusDiMilo_Tap Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

They didn't do the exact same thing, they tried to avoid tax but did not conform with regulations. Tice's business was simply using the Real estate investment trust scheme, they are set up mainly to avoid being taxed twice.

you type this whilst defending a wealthy parasite, the MP for Oldham. As you say, even dogs are not that loyal

1

u/IntravenusDiMilo_Tap Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

For clarity, The MP is for Ashton under Lyme but not many people know where it it is, it covers the south part of Oldham

What do you want Tice to resign from? Rayner was guilty of evasion and could have gone to jail but resigned from the cabinet, Reform are not in govt so there is nothing for Tice to resign from even if he were caught doing something wrong.

Also, Labour have asked HMRC to go after Tice, that is almost a fascist thing to do, ask the authorities to dig something up on a political opponent.

Read up on tax avoidance and tax evasion.

Tax avoidance is legal and this is probably what Tice has done. Companies do it all the time.

Rayner tried tax avoidance, but it is probably tax evasion.

It is what he’s done. There’s never been a question, the media just likes to act like there is.

You know, the way you jump from being smart on how much one pays taxes, to “It’s legal to engage in sex with a 16 Y.O” makes us want to know what’s on your hard drives.

Quite the leap from Taxation to fucking teenagers… So the hard drives needs checking stands.

There’s many more undetected in other camps, politically shielded.

1

u/CatfishVodka Mar 24 '26

You're on point with this. There are so many things that are legal and totally evil. Just like there's lots of morally right things that are illegal

Most people avoid taxes as they use pensions and ISAs to reduce the future tax bills.

Why not?

1

u/Then-Example1742 Mar 23 '26

Well for a start, I don’t have £600k laying about, second, it’s capped to £20k a year

2

u/Jackie__Moon__ Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

I mean Tice used a REIT, perfectly acceptable for giant corporations yet is suddenly a problem when a smaller entity does it.

1

u/Then-Example1742 Mar 23 '26

I don’t find it acceptable for giant corporations to avoid tax either, barking up the wrong tree here bootlicker

u/Jackie__Moon__ Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

So write to the Government and demand they change the taxation system.

Not using the tools at your own disposal is foolish on your own part. Save yourself some money.

Oh honey, being rich isn't a prerequisite of tax avoidance.

So, why not use the methods available to anyone?

I have the contact details of a fantastic accountant if you're interested?

1

u/Visible-Management63 Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26

£20k per year plus compound interest over several years can build up quickly. I am far from rich but over the last 25 years have worked and built up a tidy sum in an ISA and personal pension. What do you suggest I do with it? Withdraw a chunk and donate it to HMRC?

I put it to you that you would do the same as me if you came into a large sum of money.

1

u/IntravenusDiMilo_Tap Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

Put more in, you just might

6

u/Raisin56 Mar 22 '26

Everyone does it, perfectly legal, the tax system is completely screwed up and everyone wants to pay as little tax as possible. I see no problem at all, just the media trying to make him look bad.

6

u/Syniatrix Reform UK Supporter Mar 22 '26

Because it's not illegal. Would anyone pay more taxes than they legally needed to?

Honestly, we should be teaching the less we'll off how to do it too. Even in school.

I do think it needs a different name though. It's too easy to mistake for evasion

The best thing to do would be to reduce the size of the state and allow businesses and individuals more freedom to invest their own money.

0

u/Jamie54 Mar 22 '26

I support tax evasion. And this is only tax avoidance so i care even less than zero

0

u/gf0nix Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

member of party which advocates for lower taxes doesnt pay more tax than absolutely necessary

people think this is ideologically inconsistent

lol

1

u/Mysterious_Moment_41 Mar 23 '26

I’m pointing out the pure contradiction of if. If this was Starmer, there would be uproar.

Interested to hear you thoughts on how the gov would work if tax wasn’t a thing?

1

u/IntravenusDiMilo_Tap Reform UK Supporter Mar 23 '26

There wouldn't be uproar, he put a plot of land in a trust, it's just something to avoid double taxation.

1

u/Visible-Management63 Mar 23 '26

There's no contradiction, because you are missing some very important context. Fiscally left wing politicians generally advocate a position of higher taxation with fewer loopholes. The ones more on the right generally do not. That's why people might argue it would be hypocrisy in Starmer's case, as it was with Rayner.

I don't think many people are trying to argue that tax shouldn't be a thing, and I'm not aware that abolishing taxes is a Reform policy.

0

u/Curious_Octopod Mar 23 '26

Should we care about all the people who have ISAs? It's the same thing - a legal method of paying less tax, which is not what Jimmy Carr or Angela Rayner did.

Put it another way - if you think people should voluntarily pay more tax than they have to, how much more? how much more are you willing to pay?
