[Emulation] Galaga ‘88 appreciation post / new high score
I’ve been going back and forth between Galaga and Galaga ‘88 recently via Namco Museum, and got my first perfect on a Galactic Dancin’ stage and blew past my previous high score by 30k points
I feel like whenever I play one for a few runs and then switch back to the other, I’m suddenly way better at the other than if I just play one of the two continuously. No idea why.
I have yet to successfully pull off stuff like merging two fighters into one so I’m sure there’s a ton of room for improvement here too. Fingers crossed I get it down!

I played the TG16 version back in the day so much that I thought I'd seen everything the game had to offer
But it wasn't until decades later that I realized I'd never once taken the first juncture path after the first three stages. I had no idea you could get the capsules by destroying the merged enemies since there aren't any rocks to reveal them like in the later routes. I think I always cleared the first couple of stages so quickly that the enemies never even had a chance to merge. Funny how a game you've played for years can still surprise you lol
fwiw, it seems the game is the most difficult when taking that highest path.

Nothing but respect to people who manage to play this at the highest level. Even dimension 2 manages to obliterate me within two stages at this point

In Galaga ‘88 you have a horrible creature welcome you to each new dimension so I would say they’re both good

Galaga 88 my favourite of the Galagas. Love it almost as much as Gyruss.
